"Yes, 'THANK YOU, OVERSEER VARGAS,'" the monster bellowed after her.
There wasn't much more to say; the thing was young, he knew. It had no designation. No name. He recognized its gemstone, from the way it glinted and shifted color in the light--Alexandrite, without a doubt--but she hadn't hung around long enough to be told. It didn't matter--how many Alexandrites had they gone through, by now..? He wasn't sure, as it had been a very long time, but he was fairly certain that Adelaide would've been Alexandrite four-hundred-something. Not a rare stone, but not as common as some of the others, either.
He huffed, more out of thoughtfulness than any real annoyance, and turned his gaze back to the Spire.
He definitely did not approve of the disarray into which the caves had fallen, but perhaps, given time, he could rectify that. This hadn't been a spectacular start, but at least one little wolf cub knew now who he was, and hopefully would not be foolish enough to challenge him in the future.
With a grunt, he stood, turned, and paced from Polaris, taking another direction than Adelaide had done. He had hunting to do--the talk of rats had made him hungry. Though... perhaps for something a little larger.
Like deer!
