Lior’s pale yellow eyes were bright with excitement as the nature of the gift was revealed. Not only would they have a weapon, they would have a magic weapon! That was even more awesome than just plain being able to stab stuff!

Using their small jaws, the hatchling dragged the little sword over to the Blacksmith eagerly, placing it before the other. “I want to know what kind of magic, too!” They squeakily exclaimed.

Curiosity overtook them. “Is it very difficult, enchanting an item?” Lior inquired. “Can anyone learn to do it?”

At last, it was complete! His very first endeavor into the world of blacksmithing. The improper hammering gave it a bit funnier of an appearance than it had had before, but the heating and the polishing Kaimana had done seemed to make up for that lack in quality. The shield was now smaller, the design less intricate, but the metal itself looked good as new. With the promise of an enchantment, Kaimana felt it could be good enough for trading. It made him a little proud.

Kaimana would approach the Blacksmith presenting the shield she had refurbished. She would save her words until the end of this session, as she herself wished to know the answers to the questions others had asked.

It was a little awkward, carrying both the hammer and the sword, but Ember waited patiently for the rest and then shuffled up himself to gently lay the blade across the Blacksmith's anvil.

"Thank you for teaching us," he murmured, almost shyly, despite his great size; his soft pinned back, vanishing into the white fur of his skull. Then he dropped back to all fours, taking a step back with Sir Hammersly under his forearm, and waited.

One by one, they approached him; and to each he took their work in hand, eyeing it over. He held the power to bestow any number of enchantments--but partly out of a sense of rare mischief, and partly artistic preference, he half-let his magic flow quite at random. Here and there he took the aesthetic or the practical into consideration: when Renasci presented their bracer, he mused that it seemed a thing of a warrior of the sky, and that a silent approach by wing might be both beneficial and magnificent. Likewise, Ember's dusky blade, with its pits and scratches, reminded him of a stormy sky; and Lior quite simply put him in mind of water.

To each, he explained--as he worked--what their particular enchantments would do.

It was taxing--even with his power, it drained him. He had to prime each for its magic, and then imbue the magic itself. By the end he was weary, but pleased. "I hope... that each of you... enjoys your gifts... and takes pride in your work. You are always welcome... to visit here, and to work at my forge... alongside me."

He bowed deeply, cloak sweeping the floor, and then stood straight, somehow feeling quite happy with what they'd all accomplished together today.

Ember took the blade in hand, fascinated. His talons closed around the hilt, and he swung it briefly--tentatively--his eyes widening as wind rushed from its warped edge. It was exactly as the Blacksmith had said it would work. He wasn't sure what use that might be, really, but it was so damn cool nonetheless, and he found himself spellbound at the possibilities.

At length he looked to Spark, and blinked at the raw power that emanated from the little dagger. "That is beautiful," he said, his voice warm with admiration. "You did very well. Let me know when you're ready to go back, but--there is no rush," he assured them--and moved off a little ways to settle in, and maybe to wait.

The dagger was returned to them, and they held it gingerly in their talons, examining it one last time. Was is the firelight, or did it seem to flicker? No, it definitely wasn’t just a trick of the eye. The little knife now held powerful magic, a kind that Spark was unfamiliar with, a kind that frankly, frightened them a little. The blade and handle curved elegantly, shimmered in their hands. This was theirs.

They could’ve looked around, see how the other participants had faired, but they were so enraptured with this object. Only Ember’s words of praise were able to turn their head, and they grinned back, knowing his words to be true. It was beautiful. Now, they had no idea what they would do with it going forward, they were not violently inclined in the slightest, nor would they rely on a weapon like this if they were. But the logistics could wait, because right now they had just (re)forged the coolest knife ever. Still, they made a mental note to forage for something to stash it in, so nobody else could snatch it.
