Knightly had this in the bag, se's sure of it. All puffed up with confidence, se squeaks out over the sound, cheering along to the tune of "GO with SPEED! YOUR wings will not be TIRED after a GOOD FLY! THROUGH TUNNELS!!" So, a little incoherent.

And yet she's understood. Diving and weaving, the little pixie's swooping through her own tunnel like it's second nature, her smaller wings perfect for the tunnel's width. Se can't see in there; she must be doing good, because se can feel the excitement starting to build through their connection. "GO and WIN!"

"Go Bubbles! Show em how its done!" Yume urged her spider. She flew alongside the track, absorbing the excited energy of the others. As terrified as she had been, with the distance she had now Bubbles looked rather awkward, long limbs flailing about as it sprinted. Did Bubbles know where to go? She hoped that it had an internal compass, or at least the knowhow to stay with the pack. Evidently, whatever internal compass it had told it to stop. Either that, or Bubbles interpreted "show em how its done," as an ask to show everyone how to build a web. Bubbles, in the middle of the track, climbed the nearest wall and began to drag a line of silk.

"N-no Bubbles! C'mon, keep going!" She begged as the Deep Death dutifully worked on its web. "Don't do that! Don't show them that!"

Yume was forced to flap down, nails out on her paws as she watched Bubbles dutifully work on its' web. She kept sharing nervous glances at the other teams. Some of them were getting really far ahead. Would Bubbles stop if she asked? Almost as if on cue, Bubbles paused, seeming to rest. Yume's ears perked up. "Bubbles! Everyone else is going down that tunnel? Can you go down the tunnel? Please? We're gonna end up stuck with that big worm if you don't go! Its really scary!!"

Bubbles turned towards the tunnel from its web. It glanced at the worm, and she felt its nervousness mix with her own, a sensation Yume did not enjoy at all. Reluctantly it began to move from its web. Yume cheered, taking flight again as she followed it. Bubbles managed to scurry through the tunnel just inches ahead of the worm, barely avoiding what would surely be a crushing defeat.

"Ah, this should be your element!" Edeltraud said with a smile, trotting along behind her sailfin. It would be quite difficult for her to truly match its speed, she was a bundle of wool on twigs compared to her sailfin's sprint-built body. So, naturally, she hadn't tried. Her sailfin had gotten a little caught on that hurdle, but it had a straight shot ahead.

"Look at you, those long legs, you're built for sprinting! You'll do this for me, yes, doll?" The sailfin trumpeted in aknowledgement. It was a long run, but a long run was exactly what it enjoyed. With room to let loose, the sailfin picked up speed, long legs tearing across the ground and ahead of the competition. Edeltraud cackled with joy as she watched her sailfin speed ahead of her, their energy unconsciously spurring her into speeding her own trot up.

The sprint ended with a tunnel, and Edeltraud felt a tinge of fear that her sailfin might stop in the face of it. For now, though, they were still running. Edeltraud called out a desperate, "Keep it up!" Edeltraud could only hope they would listen. The answer was an unambiguous no. They stopped at the lip of the tunnel, rearing and turning away from it with a highly opinionated trumpet. Edeltraud groaned in annoyance.

"You're right there--just go through! It isn't that hard! Its only a little dark!" The answering trumpet was even louder and even more indignant. She'd be here for a while.

Food motivation doing well to spur Harvey into more enthusiastic participation compared to his prior indolence, so far the rabbit was executing an impressive climb up in the ranks. Zigzagging bounces propelled him from the rear of the Lesser pack and weaved him inside of it until his position had settled somewhere amongst the densely populated middle. The eye stalks jutting strangely from his skull provided a sense of safety, its wide range forewarning any danger that the other race participants might pose to the small Lesser. If nearby feet grew close enough to trample, he swiftly distanced himself with a sideways hop. Deep within his element, it'd require a significant roadblock to halt the steadily ramping pace he'd cultivated.

The tunnel ahead might prove a decent bottleneck, thinning the crowd out as it separated the fleetest of the bunch from the average and slow. For a creature accustomed to traversing the caves and their various nooks, the darkness contained shouldn't be an issue; in fact, it could become an advantage due to the familiarity brought by the structure despite its glittery exterior. He only needed to reach the entrance before it swelled full of desperate bodies struggling through to the other side.

Richter, having kept further encouragement silent up to this point, called out as much to his buddy. "You're just about to reach it! All you got to do is press on and stay fast."

The Walleye Rabbit received the warm pulse through their bond with nothing more than a ripple of acknowledgement. Outwardly, he channeled greater energy into the next jump and launched himself a whole foot farther along in his advance. That moment turned out be the beginning of an outstanding display of athleticism. The image of bottom contender was shed away to reveal a potential sleeper beyond the literal definition of the word.

In a shocking burst of speed, Harvey rocketed into the tunnel, every leap ricocheting him off its walls. With his lithe, steel gray form, he could've been mistaken for a bullet hurtling through the void, relentless in his pursuit of the circle of light waiting at the end. If someone were to time the feat, they likely would have been floored by the result: in a matter of mere seconds, he'd already emerged from the obstacle to tackle the next standing in the way of a free meal. Not once had he faltered or misplaced a paw.

What in the world! All of that daring hopping has placed our rabbit at 5 points and looking for more!

Sair

Sair made a mental note about their firetongue's sense of pride. It was an interesting trait to see in a lesser, and hopefully, that sense of pride might motivate the creature to try to win the event.

How do you feel about a ribbon? A medal? A big, shiny statue to prove that you won? She cooed at Trill over their connection, practically feeling their chest puff in response. To prove that you were better than even a sandworm? She added, urging them forward toward the front of the pack. They had started off strong in this competition, and Sair could only hope they kept it up. It was a fun little thing, the event. They were learning a lot, both in coaching and watching others coach.

Sair

Sair's own pride soured through the line, praising and encouraging the firetongue. It had done great so far, meeting and exceeding their expectations. If they could keep this up, there was no doubt that they would secure a win in this event.

You're halfway there! They mentally shouted. A tunnel is no match for you, is it? Trill practically scoffed over the line, the distraction causing them to get shoved as another lesser pushed ahead of them into the tunnel. Anger flooded the line next, and Trill pushed their way into the tunnel. A few places behind their previous position in the lineup, but still progressing. They would catch up.

POCKET LESSERS!
Part I: Obstacle Course!

The 'cameras,' this time, had two specific focuses. While the ethereal billboards overhead showed each Lesser running in--and out the other end--to the tune of loudly discordant heavy metal music (for some reason), there was a special focus on Richter's walleye rabbit. The speed with which it shot in and out of the tunnel was met with a roar of fake cheering and applause, and a completely gratuitous fall of pink and gold confetti that--by now--was threatening to blanket the entire forum.

The second was Anala's rat.

It ran in, the camera shot to the exit of the tunnel, and... nothing.

'Nothing' continued and stretched on, the dark mouth of the tunnel eliciting a loud drumroll from overhead. The 'cameras' zoomed in, and Nemean could be heard laughing, "Where did it GO?!" even without her megaphone. Or the microphone in her other hand, which she still hadn't used in favor of said megaphone.

Ahh, well.

The next obstacle was shown ahead: a low hurdle, followed by a very long stretch of deep, muddy water. A long jump! The-

...cameras swung back to see Anala's rat finally emerge, and applause rang out, cheers deafening!

"IT DID IT!" Nemean crowed.

Cymbals clashed loudly.

Obstacle Course - Round 4!

Players should roll Other (or, if their character is Other-path, physical combat--to keep roll thresholds fair) to bypass the fourth obstacle--a Long Jump filled with muddy water!

Keep track of your Lesser's score: 1 point for a Barely, 2 for a Success, and 3 for a Crit. The highest end scores will be the fastest placements, with prizes for First, Second and Third!

A Failed roll can be attributed to the Lesser misunderstanding, falling into the muddy water, moving too slowly, or becoming distracted by all the light and sound, etc.

This thread is closed to new entrants. If anyone had already joined but failed to post in time, they may double-post to catch up. The next post will take place on July 11th, so please post by the end of the 10th!

Note: these rolls cannot be used for character progression.

Sair

Sair could not help but to laugh at the event recap's interruption, even as Trill made its way towards the long jump. Nemean just had a way about her, a way of doing things that kept everyone interested and entertained. Never did Sair expect to be here for fun, and yet here he was, laughing and cheering along with both the fake and real crowds.

You don't want to miss this jump. He 'spoke' as Trill approached the hurdle. It looks short, but there is a puddle of very gross, very cold (He was guessing) water. He warned, urging them forward. It was important that Trill did not underestimate the length of the jump because of it's height, lest Sair discover if a firetongue could swim or not the hard way.

The warning came late, or Trill hesitated, Sair couldn't tell as the following events happened quickly, a hazy flash of colour as Trill leaped. Gravity took hold, as it did, and they fell further and further still. It was unclear if their forward momentum or downward descent would win out against the other as scaly feet grazed the top of the murky waters below. The water grew shallower as the firetongue drifted further down, eventually finding unsteady purchase in the tail-end of the puddle. It had made it, barely, and it took off after the others with a mental sigh of relief. It did not like the cold.

"Speaking." Thinking. Doing.
