There was silence.

And then there was anything and everything but that. Cracking, rapidly increasing breaths, more cracking. I tossed and I turned the best I could in this shrouding darkness. It was tight, i was cramped. I was almost.. mad. I was annoyed and mad, I ached. I was mad. Yes, this was clear, very clear. The cracking stopped and now i wasn't all that annoyed, and the space expanded and I was relieved of the cramping. But that didn't last long. I found myself tossing, thrashing at whatever it was that around me. It grew louder here, I grew louder. I was huffing, snorting. Huffing and snorting. I began to thrash once more in the empty space, but this time I was rewarded with something other than darkness or cramping. It was.. different. It wasn't much but it was better than this, and i wanted it. And so I continued thrashing, and it seemed the longer I did this, the longer something was building up. Something else was happening as I boiled, but i couldn't place it. But I still wanted whatever this new thing was.

---
Whatever was building up now came crashing down around me so it seemed..

I continued thrashing about, more cracking noises, more grunts and snorts from me. But during all of this I hadn't realized the other motion that went on around me. I was no longer moved by my own movements, but by something else. And even still didn't know what it was, what this was. I realized that when the movement did start I just so happened to reach more of the difference space, the brighter space. Was that why this was happening? Or did I cause this from my bad mood? But who could blame me even if it was- this thing was cramped, and I was miserable. I was so miserable, that I now continued on with what I was doing despite the odd moving about going on around me. And this time, I used all I had. I broke the darkness and was smacked by this newer space, landing on something else I broke free from the trap. And Just as I reached this new space the movement around me stopped.

Looking down, these things were moving as I thought about it and did whatever it was that moved them, and looking up I saw a great amount of something or was this everything? It was big, it was all big. And it was more comfortable than that thing. And it seemed the more I thought, the more i knew how to just do things. All at once I stepped away from that thing, only to charge back at whatever solid piece I could with my head, meeting with a painful impact that only led me back to where I was, as if bouncing off of it. I attempted this over and over again, and the pain only escalated. I then moved to thrashing at it, only to swing myself around, furious from the lack of results in whatever I wanted, and I thrashed at the ground, and I along with the thrashing moved about in giant leaps and bounds. And then I froze in place after hearing something, something odd and strange and that sound came from me. I did it again, and again and again, cooing and grunting and snorting about, thrashing my hooves against the cold hard surface beneath me.

"shattered innocence"

Alone. Alone was bad. Alone left him time to think about Wynry. About how he'd neglected him after that damn carnivore had come into his life. It was her fault. Hers and his. He should never have fallen for her. Never should have let her distract him from his duty. If she'd never been around then he wouldn't let Wynry die. He would have been there. He would have... Oh... Wynry...

He lowered his head down to the ground, resting it on the grave he'd dug for his brother. Tears leaked from underneath his closed eyelids, sobs wracked his body as he wept openly. Beast was out somewhere, searching for berries and plants for him to eat just as he'd commanded. He wanted them stacked and stored near the throne. That was the place he would claim, he would start his empire there. Really though, the task had only been given so he would have time alone to mourn.

The only thing he had left right now was the stone and this grave.

As he laid there and mourned he felt something, some disturbance and cracking noise. What was that? He felt a flicker of anger and irritation which colored the stone at his chest an angry red. Was it Beast screwing something up? He growled. If it was then that damned cub would feel his tines in his flesh. He wanted to be alone! Not fixing some stupid mess!

Angrily he rose to his hooves and stalked off towards the noise, his ears were pinned and his eyes blazing as he rounded a building and saw-- a little moose. His gem turned from the angry red to it's normal clear as he stared down at the little creature. The anger which had at first sparked in his eyes dissipated and was replaced by compassion. It was an adorable little herbivore. Not a foul beast like that cub. Those blue eyes and perfect little form... This was a pure creature and since it had just hatched... It was his.

Perfect.

"Hello there, little one." His voice was soft, kind. The world had yet to taint this one. He could be taught about the evils of the carnivores and the beauty and perfection of the herbivores.

Beast wasn't sure what a berry was. Vazi had chased him off with a stern word, and he had bolted to avoid being trampled, but he didn't know what a berry was and what did Vazi want?!

He was hungry, he knew that--or rather, he knew that there was a gnawing pain in his gut. But what that pain was he couldn't say, nor how to soothe it. It hurt, and left him curled up alone, softly mewing to himself. He was trembling in fear and hunger, hiding behind a pile of rubble some distance beyond the throne, when he heard a quiet clattering. A struggling. Round white ears swivelled forward, and the little cub slowly rose up, hesitantly crawling forward.

He could see Vazi standing over something, something dark and clumsy--maybe another young one, like himself?

The cub crept closer, sniffing and offering a quiet mew, trying to approach the moose calf to greet it nose-to-nose. If Vazi even let him get that close. His hunger was--for the moment--forgotten in the burst of good nature and curiosity that he felt toward the strange creature before him.

I continued to thrash about until I was greeted by more sounds. I didn't want any more sounds, no more things to feel or see. No more. I was met by something that wasnt this space, it was like me. It took up the space. It was like me. I didn't want another me, there could only be me here in this space. It was my space. My actions slowed to a complete halt and my brows began to furrow, a loud snort erupting into the space between us. I stomped my hooves below me, hearing more of the crack- but this time it was more a "click-clack" each time the crashed down. I tossed my head, which then resulted in my entire body tossing with it. I took a few steps forward, pawing at the surface beneath me ever few steps I took closer to this other thing. This thing that was like me. I was mad still, mad from being trapped inside of that thing. Mad because of all of the noises and sights and things I felt. I was mad because this thing was like me, there was no other me. There couldn't be. I shook my head once more and my body, per usual, tossed along with it- and then I paused, another sound. I thought I said I didn't want anymore. I let out a coo and a snort and tossed my head to the side, seeing that there yet another thing that took up this space.

This space was mine, and mine only. I took a small leap off the side, to get a better look at this other thing that took up my space. I was ready to leap or thrash or whatever again, until I lost the grip of the surface beneath me and I began to struggle. I wobbled, I slipped. I almost crashed down once again, but I finally regained my stance and stood upright. I looked to the first thing that took up my space, and the the second one. What was I to do now? What else could I do? Backing up, I let out a snort and thrashed about with my hooves for all but a second and then stopped. Why were they taking up my space?

It didn't seem happy to see him. No matter. It would learn to appreciate having another herbivore in its presence. He would teach it that, even if it hurt and he didn't want to learn. He stepped forward and would have continued towards the babe if he hadn't heard one of those infuriating mewls. He turned his head, his soft expression bleeding away to anger while the gem at his chest flared into color. "BEAST! Why are you HERE? Have you gathered what I told you to? I think not! You have not been gone for long enough and now you need to gather twice as much, you idiotic thing!" He tilted his antlers towards the new cervine. "This new creature needs food just like I do and you will gather it for the both of us!" He stepped forward but not towards the newborn fawn but instead towards the cub. His eyes glared hatred and his mouth was curved up into a sneer as he stalked purposefully towards the cub.

Quite suddenly he lashed out with his antlers in an attempt to slash the cub just as he said he would. If he disobeyed he would get the tines. "GET OUT OF MY SIGHT AND GO GET THOSE BERRIES LIKE I TOLD YOU TO! TWICE AS MANY NOW! GET GOING!" With that he stamped angrily at the cub before turning back to the fawn. The glare that had been on his face disappeared just like the red color on his gem. He was all smiles and soothing words now. "Sorry, need to keep the lesser beings in their place. Please... If you are afraid there is no need to be. I am here to help you and teach you, little one." So sudden was his change in mood. He was like a mad thing, a creature out of control.

The white cub was just leaning forward to nuzzle the moose--his heart filling with gentle joy at the sight of a new friend--when Vazi's voice snapped into anger once more. He flinched back, and then there was a blur of large, dark movement and a sting in his side and chest, and he was being flung away, tumbling back across the stone with a frightened squeal.

When he scrambled up, bolting back behind the throne, he could feel something new--a terrifying, hot feeling lancing across his chest.

So this is --pain. I don't like pain.

The cub cowered, gasping and panting, pupils dilated. He could smell something--something warm, and metallic. Beast looked down, staring dumbly at the crimson liquid staining his white fur. He'd been slashed across the flank and ribs, and it hurt, hurt enough to leave him whimpering and mewling and licking half-heartedly at the shallow laceration, but Vazi was still yelling. Still yelling, and the terrified cub turned tail and ran, half-limping and crying out in fear and pain as he tried to just get away.

Chances were Vazi would have to come and find him again--if he cared to bother enough to retrieve his plaything, that was.

As it was, Beast was terrified. Why had his guardian attacked him? Why had he shouted again?! What was he doing wrong?

The lion cub found a dark corner in the rock and quietly nestled into it, tucking his head down, his sides heaving as he panted and mewled. The hungry cub was cold, now, and bleeding--easy prey for any larger predator who might find him--and miserably alone.

The world, he decided, was a cold and terrible place. He wasn't sure he wanted to be a part of this.

I noticed this other thing was trying to reach me, and it did. Until I froze entirely as this other thing did what looked like something I was doing, but this caused more noise, louder noise. I waited, watched, and studied it all. There was more color that came from the smaller thing, and just loud noises that came from the bigger thing. I clacked my hooves on the ground loudly as I watched the other one disappear. Brows furrowed once more as the big thing approached me, but slowly lightened as I heard noise come from him.
I cocked my head, no longer angry but more so confused. What was this? Was I supposed to do this back? I couldn't. I didn't know how. Or did I? I didn't know, and I wasn't going to try. Not yet. I took a step forward and snorted, and soon began to sniff this thing. The new smell burned my nose, my head instantly taking note. I dipped my head and investigated below, then stooped up high and investigated there. I grunted then gave a short coo, tossing my head upwards as I pranced in place.

If he did that to that other thing.. He could surely do it to me. But I wouldn't let that happen, no. I was so fresh. So new. That other thing clearly wasn't.

Stupid, Beast. He was satisfied that his antler had met its mark. Had opened up a wound and would hopefully keep him from coming forward when he wasn't called again. His attention was fully on the blessed herbivore now. The young one's eyes seemed to be studying and trying comprehend everything. Good. He needed to learn right off of the bat what happened to carnivores or anything in general that didn't listen. Those antlers on his head could quickly turn against anyone who defied him but swifter action would be taken against the lesser beings.

Vazi nodded his head as the young moose began to approach, he smiled encouragingly. Open for the other to sniff and learn who he was. Vazi lowered his head to the young creature's level and touched his nose to the other's. "Good. You have no need to fear me. We are one in the same, you and I. However, disobedience... I will not allow it." He shook his head before smiling again at the young one. "Do you have a name? Like mine... Mine is Va--" Vazi? Vazi had been happy, carefree with his brother. He didn't feel happy anymore. He had a hole where his heart used to be... Vazi didn't. All he felt now was anger and sadness. That was not Vazi... He was angry. And so... He would be Anger until he found something for the hole in his heart to cloak it and cover it again.

"My name is Hasira. It is my name." He said slowly, hoping the other would understand what he was saying.

I furrowed my brows in frustration again but that quickly changed when something else was blurted out. Mmak!. I snorted, shaking my head. No no no, that wasn't it! I stomped my hooves again, giving a whine. I looked down, then up. And back down, then to.. to.. Hasira? Yes, that was it. I tossed around once, and gave it another try. Mall.. laak... Mmalakai!. There we go! That was it! Whatever it was .. but now I had whatever Hasira did!. I felt proud, felt less annoyed. I gave a beaming smile and tossed my legs around, my head trailing with the motion. Hassirra! Mmalakai! I pranced about chanting the two things together, trying to better grasp how this.. sound stuff worked.

Well, this one showed more promise than Beast already! It was making sounds and trying to make sense of his words. He nodded his head encouragingly. "That's it. You can do it." He was reminded of the day's when Wynry had first hatched. However, unlike the imposter this moose didn't make him angry. He wanted to help him. "Malakai? Is that it? That's a nice, strong name. Welcome to the family." He lifted his head higher as he peered down at the small bull.

"Malakai, would you like to know something special about us?" He winked and lowered his head back down so he could whisper in the moose's ear. "We are herbivores which means we are one of the purest, bravest, and strongest creatures in the cave." He leaned back so he could look the moose in the eye. "It means we are special. More special than any other creature... Do you understand?" His voice was kind, oh so kind, and sincere as he spoke.
