Once Knell had learned how to not only fly, but
soar, there was little that could stop him from dipping and diving through the vast obstacle course that made up Leo. He pushed himself now more than he had ever pushed himself, his pride demanding him to become better and stronger. How many cycles had he wasted? His wings strained with the effort of carrying his body, but sweeping low to the surface of Leo's waters, if he became too tired he could simply crash without too much concern.
As long as he didn't crash headfirst into one of the stone pillars that he was weaving in and about, nearly clipping his wings on two that made for a more narrow passage than he had estimated. The more he pushed himself, however, the more energy he found. Feeling a splurge of energy, he slapped his wings hard, sending a spray of water as he rose, climbing higher and higher. He spun as he went, feathers rustling noisily in the wind.
How far could he push himself? He wondered as he reached a new height, flaring out his wings with a snort and a gasp for breath as he surveyed the vast waters of Leo's shore. He hung there only for a moment. Then he dove again, gaining such speed and momentum that he thought he may never stop again. He tucked his wings as he arced around several of the stone spires, straightening out to slice a wave with his talons. He grinned and let loose a roar, climbing again and this time doing a somersault, twisting his body this way and that against the wind currents.
Laughter peeled from his throat, as he swept up into the sky once more, and then dove again, this time flaring out his wings to catch himself as he tore through the air toward the sea below. His talons outstretched, he hit the water with a
sploosh, having slowed himself just enough to avoid hurting himself but with just enough speed to send up a massive tidal wave in his wake. He surfaced and shook out his feathers, eyes gleaming.
This was what it was all about.
