The magic came to Edeltraud much easier than it had the last time. The magic took over the spider easily, and she could feel the cordyceps hold on the spitting bug strengthen significantly. Small grey pillars sprouted from the top of its head, and it relaxed even further. A little rest turned out to be exactly what she needed. Edeltraud skipped about in great ardor, overjoyed.

"Perfect! Ah--the finishing touches. A little further, sweet." Edeltraud said. This time she did not approach--she wanted to try and further the reach of her magic from afar. Edeltraud focused on the spitting bug. As she stared at it, she realized she had no way of referring to it. No name--and everyone in her flock needed a name.

"I suppose I should name you then, hmm...how about Bly?" The spider did not react, but Edeltraud smiled nonetheless. "A good one, you think?"

Edeltraud found her magic difficult from a distance. But it did work. A trail of fungus sprouted from her towards the spider. Edeltraud frowned. Perhaps this magic could only be used in close contact? Edeltraud approached Bly, pushed her snout against it.The fruiting bodies of Bly intensified, stretching higher and spreading further upon its head. It wasn't as powerful as she could have hoped--but given her experimentation, any success was more than she could've asked for.

Edeltraud's nose scrunched up. Still...she could do better. "Once more, hmm?" She muttered beneath her breath.

There--now the fungus sprouted easily. With her magic powering it, clouds of fungus sprouted from between joints and the bodies on its head spread to encompass its abdomen as well. But Bly was still living. And Edeltraud was satisfied. She gave a tinkling laugh, setting off into a series of pronks. "Perfect, Bly! Why dont you come with me, hmm? I forsee us becoming great friends."

Edeltraud's smile froze, then faltered. She tilted her head, staring at the spitting bug for a long moment. Something was missing... "Ah! I know." Edeltraud said, clicking a hoof against the ground. Edeltraud stuck her nose to the ground.

Edeltraud's nose picked up none of the sweet scent of flowers. Well, other than her own bag, of course. The only scent in her nostrils was that of dirt and grass. It was a tasty scent, but it wasn't the kind she wanted. She was not surpised, though. The grasses here were taller than her. But Edeltraud did find it disappointing. Edeltraud nibbled on the grasses as she went, before snorting in frustration. Further, then.

She trotted out of the high grass. It would be easier to search amongst the low grass, after all. The exposure and openness of the field frightened her, but Edeltraud glanced back as she went. Bly followed her, shedding fungal dander as she went. Edeltraud smiled at it. What a loyal doll.

Edeltraud's day had been pleasant so far. All had been going to her wishes, and finding the flowers was much the same. She easily spotted a decently sized patch of flowers. Edeltraud stepped into them, carefully placing her hooves between delicate stems. She sniffed each flower, meticulously searching for the ones with the most pleasing scents and petals. Those she chose she plucked methodically, softly tucking them in her bag. She circled Bly, muttering to herself once more. Edeltraud stuck flowers into the spitting bug in strategic places, between fuzzy joints, under patches of hair, above its eyes. Anywhere they would stick. After an intense session of flower placement, Edeltraud stepped back to view her handiwork. Multicolored patches of flowers sprouted from Bly: pinks, yellows, and reds.

"Ah, you look like such a darling, Bly! Now come with me. We have much to do. More friends to find, yes?"

Edeltraud began to trot back into Pegasus, a fungus-laden spitting bug hot on her trail.
