"I've never known anything else," Mirrikh told Anala as he finished up one bit of mouse. "So it's not weird to me."
They paused to listen with faint interest to the way that things all tasted differently. How odd, yet sort of interesting.
"A mouse makes for a most convenient meal for me," Mirrikh answered, easily. "Not too much, not too little."
But there was a question there also, implied, about if they hunted larger prey.
"My father hunted a very dangerous snake for my stone," Mirrikh commented, thoughtful. "Challenges are... tempting, I admit. Yet, it would be wasteful of me to hunt something I could not consume, if I had no purpose other than challenging myself."
"But... hunting lessers for stones, that wouldn't be a waste, I suppose. They turn to oil, anyway, those ones, when they die." Like the oil their sibling Fafnir was often covered in, the way things with stones all decayed.

ANALA
From a spark to a flame

Anala listened and nodded as Mirrikh spoke, thoughtfully chewing on what remained of her mice. In truth, she would have finished long ago if not for their conversation. That and she didn't want to seem rude for wolfing it down.
"I feel the same, Mirrikh. There is no sense in killing for killing's sake. Fighting just to fight? To train? I love that! But killing is a whole other line, I think." The point about gemstones made Anala think for longer, though. "I wonder if one would say the same about killing greater gembounds for their stones? Where is the line?" It was a morbid thought, but a thought nonetheless. Would she kill a lesser just for their stone, or kill one for food that just so happened to have a stone? She did not yet know where she would draw her line.
"I'm getting too... Philosophical, I think. Forgive me. I'm getting tired, I think, after so much running around." Almost as if on cue, she yawned, the long kind that stretched her jaw a little too far and showed off all of her teeth. "Well look at that." She chuckled.

"Purpose is important," they agreed, then finished their own meal.
Mirrikh felt a bit confused by the jump from lesser to greater gembounds. "I don't understand," they admitted. "Lessers and greaters are different. I would never hunt a greater, even if I could."
At the yawn, Mirrikh laughed brightly. "I think, perhaps, you're getting a bit tired? I'll leave you to rest, but it was fun competing," they told Anala.
"It was nice to meet you," the fairy spoke, taking off into the air and just about to flutter away.
