CAVE STATUS
QUESTS/EVENTS
Autumn arrives, subdued by the caves' depths. Skittering leaves, thick fog or drifting mist, and cooler temperatures provide a crisp fall atmosphere. The spectres of Andromeda drift in and out of visibility, and pumpkins begin to spread beneath foliage shifting into hues of amber and flame. Strange whispering can be heard at the edges of empty tunnels, and the Carnival seems more boisterous than usual...
Though Jampa's spell was successful, her mind was met with the airy silence of nothingness; it was not the eerie empty of nonexistence, but the bated breath of one waiting to be born. And just before it felt like she might suffocate, her lungs filled with the enactment of will. She saw the gardens and the cathedral bubble up out of the void on purple-pink nebulae, sparkling with stars and cosmic magic.
There was nothing to hindsight. Jampa and Cardan would be the statue's first ever guests, engraved into its stone-memory for time immemorial. It was new, having only just been spawned here by the Visitor itself, and Jampa would catch a brief glimpse of its hooded lion-skull visage at the edge of her vision. This space was special and created just for them: the gembounds.
"I.. I don't think I like the differences either.."
Ears fluttered behind him, it was clear he was uncomfortable. Cardan stood by, waiting to see what they might learn. If anything, But his eyes peered at the flutters among the branches. Purple eyes turned to watch Jampa. Curiosity written on his face, but he wouldn't beg to hear it.
Unfortunately for the visiting gembeasts, and notably disappointing to Jampa as she had never used this spell before, the results left much to be desired. She was surprised with what she saw - vague images coming to mind like she witnessed a waking dream - and the face of some creature she did not recognize. What had she expected? That was hard to answer as well; but at least she wasn't left with nothing to show for her effort... just a sense of mild confusion and the nostalgia one feels upon waking up, and grasping at the receding memory of one's imagination.
The boy looked to her with interest, and Jampa thought she saw a veiled impatience (but likely felt something close to that herself and otherwise unidentifiable). Her brow furrowed a little and she moves so her back is to the statue. "I think this place is... new. My magic showed me a spooky face. Maybe it's best we don't ask questions?" Besides, if more of these places did exist, Jampa would prefer not to know. The caves were home - it's where everyone belonged.
"We should go back. Or... I think I'll head back. Would you like to walk with me?" If the boy wanted to stay at the altar or continue exploring the bridges, she wasn't going to prevent that. Using her magic here had been more exhausting than Jampa had anticipated, further cementing her negative view of the area.
While she used her magic, Cardan watched from a distance. Unaware how he felt about asking a statue something. Wasn't for him to know much, no matter how curious. A gentle nod from the pup. She explained a spooky face, that was enough to spook him to want to leave.
"I don't wanna stay, I'd like to walk with you.."
Nothing but a mere whisper, ears cupped down to the side. Cardan had no interest coming back or to find out more about this place. He was ready to leave. Should Jampa start walking, he'd follow.
Jampa gives a little nod, happy to be on the same page as the wolf cub. She'd carefully prance her way across the bridge at a tempo that would keep up with Cardan, even sheltering him with the span of her body and the span of her open wings. It would not take long for them to get off the smaller island with its structures and the owl statue, and over to the mainland (if that's what you could call it); and with a little more time they'd be in the shadow of the cathedral together. Wordlessly, protectively, Jampa would make sure they were both safely delivered to the expansive building.
Whatever interest Jampa might have carried for this new space, on any other day, had vanished when she'd first seen the sky; it had turned to something bitter when she'd heard those strange birds singing; and that vision of the strange face, that nameless and unknown figure, would continue to haunt her memory anytime she thought of this strange space. Better to get home to the proper caves, the reality she was used to.
