The Black Spinel emerges as a griffin-like beast about seven feet tall at the top of its head. Despite its gemstone, the mutation of clearstone shards erupts in points across its body. The head, tail and wings are covered in flowing white feathers; the rest of the slender, agile body is bare skin, edging into chitin on the hind legs and stinger. A number of eyes litter the limbs, including the tail; the inner beak is lined with jagged teeth.

The Prehnite is a disaster hulking beast about twenty-four feet long in total. With most of its body built for water--including a set of gills and an undersized, ragged fin at the tail's end--it bears only one set of limbs: a crustacean-like pair at the front. Compound dragonfly-like eyes and face blur into soft fish scales on the rest of the body. A fish pattern is broken up by gray-white, and white fibers somewhere between feathers and limp hair hang along the spine, inconsistently. Wings and eyes seem to have erupted at random on this creature. It can drag itself on land, and in the water it's clumsy and slow but it can swim.

The Shigaite is a giant snail with a pearlescent, spiny shell, almost nine feet in diameter. Two large crab-like legs poke out the front; the head bears pincer-like mandibles with a jagged maw hidden underneath. Eyes curl around the symmetrical shell, and four gleam atop the head. If this creature were to fully emerge, the rest of the body would look something like a bumpy white slug with a single pair of crab legs.

CRABLINGS!

Juggernaut will deliver a healthy litter of three in June. They will be born as drones, and thus will start fully connected to the Hive and Mother.

They will have no scent, and will be immediately inducted into the Hive via words of affirmation and feel-good endorphins. As drones, they will also be drawn to symmetry. As some of these designs are, unfortunately, asymmetrical due to Juggernaut's nightmare genes, this may cause mental and emotional discomfort early on! Feel free to exploit this as much as you'd like.

While Juggernaut is their bio-dad, they are all Mother's children first and foremost. The hatching thread will be GM-tagged for her guidance. Juggernaut will see himself as a primary guardian/mentor rather than a dedicated parent, and they will be raised communally as necessary. However, spawn who choose (or are designated) a similar role to him will see him more often :)

Their relationship will be undoubtedly complicated, if you're into that. Juggernaut is struggling with eldritch knowledge and dealing with effects of a bizarre (platonic?) emotional situationship and he is really bad at hiding it. Bear with him.

Applicants will be decided based on their potential for development AND overall interest. Go, my scarabs. Cook FIRE.

Which Crabling: Griffin and Snail
Name and/or Title: Ilfroid, The Darkheart (Snail) Talus, The Pureheart (Griffin)
Personality:
Ilfroid (female) - calculating, conniving, trickster, con artist. Ilfroid will be very pissy when reminded that her shell is not symmetrical. She will do anything for mother, and holds a bit of resentment for the griffin, and others for being more symmetrical than her. She's very ocd about symmetry and sometimes will completely spaz out about it.
Talus (male) - proud, narcissistic, self important, confident. Talus knows he's better than his siblings for the main fact that he is more symmetrical than they are, he has wings, looks better, and so many other things. He knows that he's the shit and acts like it to. To him, the only one higher than him is mother, and he is mothers perfect image. This will certainly get him in trouble.

Which Crabling: Snail
Name and/or Title: Roost
Personality: Roost hates being alone. YES, of course it always has the company of its family in the back of its mind, but that's not the same as real, PHYSICAL company. It is quick to grow anxious when alone, and it will tend to follow around its siblings unless it is given a specific task elsewhere. It is also EXTREMELY affectionate, both verbally and physically. Roost is fairly chatty for a drone, although its conversation topics tends empty and repetitive- comments on the weather, or whatever it did the day before [which is often the same as the day before that], questions about well-being, and so on. It gets incredibly anxious whenever it has to talk to those outside the hive, however- it has an incredibly hard time discerning intentions outside of a telepathic link.
Future plans: Magic path, focusing on spells like Automata and Honeycomb. While it could potentially follow in Juggernaut's footsteps as a tank, it will be more drawn to micromanaging lessers and protecting nodes.

Which Crabling: Trunko
Name and/or Title: Wretch
Personality: Wretch is, at its core, an insecure people-pleaser. It is hyperaware that it is hideous, lacking any semblance of symmetry, and it attempt to rectify this by covering itself in white dye and fur pelts. It knows is slow and clumsy on both land and in water and not particularly good at fighting either. It feels inadequate in all possibles ways and yet it is so, so desperate to be useful and help its family. It is blindly obedient to all of it's family- although Mother obviously takes priority- and it would gladly sacrifice its existence for any of them. If not given any other task it will eventually find itself working to expand its family by recruiting those who are just as miserable as itself. If you can't love yourself, mother will love you instead.
Future plans: Path will depend on whatever Mother suggests for it, otherwise it'll be an other-path recruiter type. Will probably mutate to become more symmetrical.

Which Crabling: the Snail
Name and/or Title: Herse :)
Personality:
it/its pronouns for foreseeable future, may develop further in the future. A near-mute creature, preferring mental communication.
will depend a bit on development but i picture it having an internal monologue similar to Disco Elysium (where in it basically makes Observations, thinks very bluntly about its Sensations and Desires, and is basically very mentally Noisy) -- this may make it quite. the thing to interact with within the Hive. It will be a thing that initially does not understand secrets and will be very prone to being blunt, truthful, and prying.
it will want to solve problems. it will be the inhuman can opener of the hive. it will likely struggle with its own vices and flaws, and spiral upon being faced with them. by focusing on outward problems, it can ignore its own inner issues (which will only grow louder the more they are ignored).
It will have an almost antagonistic relationship with the fellows of the Hive in part due to its Loud Internal Monologue and desperate need to absolute confidence in being able to Fix Everything. It is a cocky thing, brash and not unlike a prince rupert's drop: nigh indestructible unless snipped in the tail-- and then it will explode violently.
Future plans: hi i want to use a major mutation ++ to shatter this beautiful creature's shell into several delicate, sharpened pieces. stick all of the bits of shell to the mucus membrane of the snail body by flexible tendrils. This process will allow it to hold the shell in a perfect replication of its original form, while also being able to break it apart into several dangerous pieces-- allowing it to "squish" through most small spaces that its shell would not normally fit through, as well as give it lots of dangerous knives. I'm toying with the idea of having these pieces actually resemble crystalline "feathers", but still have the layering potential to form the shell shape :) i think it would be nice for them to resemble papa a bit more. in addition i might also give the snail some internal (beetle?) wings or something that it could deploy when the shell is broken apart or something. i think it would be fun. or just lots of lil spindly legs. i rotate this thing in my mind with ideas.

i would love to explore Herse attempting to uproot dissent among other Hive members (basically interrogating them over their little secrets even though like. everyone should be allowed a little privacy man.) to put it shrimply: if you aren't guilty you should have nothing to hide. i think it could be fun drama between Juggernaut and its offspring and also hopefully some other hive members-- especially non-clearstone ones. i think mother would get a bit exasperated with Herse's forceful nature.

i might lean into Strategist with it? i think the sneaky/underhanded stuff is a vibe for this thang. also Apothecary + hive Fungus just seems funny to me.
Other:

herse has several meanings. you may associate it with the word hearse - a funeral vehicle. this is barely relevant to our interests here.

the noun herse can be traced back to a military formation, though the definition and shape of what a herse is is up for debate (further reading!) it is delightful to consider herse as a formation, just like the little pieces of those shells. oo we love it

a herse can also refer back to a harrow used in farming! those wide guys with all the blades/hooks that break up soil. its a fun mental image :)

herse can also be a verb, which is basically to entomb, enclose, particularly in a hearse, also quite fitting i think for the little shelled guy.

and outside of those mainly archaic meanings, herse typically tends to refer to a portcullis, the kind of big metal ones with big spikes that are made to drop quickly to stop invasions. this is just such a delightful bit of imagery that i love to hold this particular strange beast to. hang out on the ceiling of a tunnel, drop with all of your pointy bits on to the enemy. perfection!

Which Crabling: Trunko (love that title btw l'mao)

Name and/or Title: Whimble/Whimbly, professionally known as the Sea Angel

Personality:

GOOD MORNING, SPACE CADET

Whimbly is the epitome of whimsy and effervescent thinking. And by effervescent, I mean generally positive, but in a way that almost sounds inebriated. He makes ridiculous 'pormanteaus' of words that sound fun and nice, such as "beautifulgorgeous" and "specialsweet". He is sometimes clever with his words for fun, often bubbly and carefree in his demeanor.

ANGELIC (DE)ATTACHMENT

He is painfully naive; having been born directly into the warmth and unity of the Hivemind, he has no concept of committing harm for harm's sake, or being bullied, or othered. He does not understand the desire for disorder, and often fails to consider situations in which order would be unwanted. He knows he is different looking from his pristine, mostly symmetrical family, but his reaction to this is guided by the rather optimistic belief that, "someday, Mother will fix me!" It might weigh on his mind, but the childlike trust he places in his community and surroundings (along with, perhaps, a little bit of thought reprogramming) spares him a lot of the grief that those pesky self-deprecating thoughts might have otherwise caused him.

A NATURAL ARTIST

In stark contrast to his biological parent, Whimbly cannot seem to shut up. He is always babbling, coming up with absurd lyrics to discordant songs. He loves to sing, and would love to paint if he ever figured out how. Singing is a tool he can do in air or underwater, with no walking required; he already has everything he needs. An ever pious follower, he tends to improvise psalms of praise featuring strange, nonsensical lyrics that would probably carry an undercurrent of ominousness to anyone outside of the Hivemind.

Future plans: think of him as Mother's pacifist apostle, or smitten poet, or will-of-a-wisp. my boy is, on all levels except physical, kind of a jellyfish of a person. where many Order characters become bug-zombie-soldiers when separated from their senses of self, he takes his mindlessness towards more of a moon jellyfish direction. it will be unclear for a while if he is even capable of having truly devious ulterior motives. he is more prone to leading people off the beaten path through promises of what he honestly believes to be true based on his own experiences. like an angel, he practically physically cannot intend to do harm or wrong, but he can end up accomplishing that on accident. his naivety may get him into tricky situations, especially if he starts absorbing any of juggernaut's heretical lines of questioning. i want to experiment with the ordered element, so he might get into magic, with a little bit of tactics. he would lean more into proselytizing for mother, in a rather ... whimsical way.

There is also a longterm angst / defection-based idea for if Mother ever does "remake" him, or if he manages to Remake himself by uploading his memories to the cloud l'mao.

Other: I think you are gay :) also stone placement would be symmetrical, V-shaped band of Prehnite at the top of his head, where his "hairline" begins. it would be covered by his hair-feather-mane-thing on land but visible underwater (due to his mane being lifted up and becoming wispy, as hair does underwater).

OH YEAH i meant to mention, my activity might be out of whack due to school. I have Slightly Less to do now (-1 responsibility everybody clap!!!) but i may phase in and out at some point. i would not Like to, it is not my Intention, but you know how it is ): just wanted to be honest about that in case it influences your decision!
