In a corner, between two pebbles, was a tiny chrysalis. Stupidly easy to miss, sure, but beautiful nonetheless. It was barely even an inch and a half long - bright orange with plumes of purple seeping through it. It was stagnant for some time now - thankfully not even making the slightest of movements while Polaris, it's resting place, was filled with flames and a dragon made his perch on the spire.
But now, it jerked. It shook, it rocked, and finally, it began to crack. A hairline crack appeared in the very center of it - only actually noticeable by someone staring closely at it, and with the smallest snap, the gem split. From the hole that cracked open, came a tiny, wet head.
The creature's eyes slowly opened - one orange, one purple. With a soft squeak the thing slowly began to crawl out of it's stone chamber, clicking quietly and softly as it dragged itself along. The tiny beast - now revealed to be a tiny, tiny bat - clambered up onto a rock with it's ears rotating quietly.

The bat blinked unevenly, as if he were blinking the drowsiness away. He began to crawl forward, claws tapping quietly against the cave ground as he continued to click quietly, ears lifted. He could tell the room he was in was huge; bigger than he could even comprehend. In front of him was a slight drop that lead onto a flat surface - smooth and, once he touched it, strangely warm; as if the ground itself were alive.
He could tell that he was alone - or whatever was nearby was hiding from him. There was an opening somewhere ahead, between two huge stone walls - another one near that, and yet another one near that opening. If there were more, he'd have to get closer to them to tell that.
There was a dip in the ground somewhere to his left - he could hear, if he concentrated hard enough, the soft splashing and running of water. Yet, as he got closer to the water, he realised that there were things inside that and he quickly turned away. He could tell in the center of the room, not too far away, there was a giant stone structure. It pulsated with energy, just as filled with life as the floor.
All of this he could sense just by clicking quietly. This room was huge - there was probably more to see, and yet he had absolutely no idea where to go.

He decided, eventually, to head towards the river. He was hungry and he still wasn't sure how to find things to eat, but he did decide to start with a drink of water instead. As he approached the water he leaned down, sticking hos nose into the water.
He flinched.
He had expected to touch more ground under the water but there was nothing but liquid - he almost fell in. Quickly, he drank two gulps of water, greedily, before he lifted himself back up with a soft squeak. He looked around briefly, unsure where to go next.
So he decided to wander for a while.
