The cracking sound was the first thing that he recognized as he became aware. A slow, agonizingly loud sound. And then, the shatter. Before there had been pressure, a comforting presence all around Sunshine that had felt safe. But with the shatter, the pressure disappeared. Instead, there was cold, and pain as the tiny creature plopped onto the ground with a thud.

Wide, dark eyes opened to the world. The light around him wasn't too bright, but it still took a moment for his eyes to adjust as it flooded in. His head turned shakily to the side, seeing the pieces of crystal all around him, and then the shattered crysalis from which he'd came. Somehow, he knew that's where he'd come from. But somehow, he also knew he would not be able to go back.

He shivered as he turned his gaze to the world in front of him instead, the wide place he now belonged to. Tall ferns towered above his head, giving him a sense of security at least. But even so, the fluff-covered chick felt a little... afraid.
