Ghanyarah lunged, and he could feel icy cold magic curling around his teeth, preparing to latch onto the flesh of the dog and freeze him. He was gearing up to make the final move - if he could grab the dog's neck, he'd be able to drag it down. He could subdue it with his weight alone, and then the meal would be his. He was so engrossed in the idea of victory and the prize of a meal that he hadn't bothered to compensate for possible escape, yet there it was. The dog slipped free and Ghanyarah's thick jaws closed over naught but a few hairs. An icy breath coiled around his teeth and the reptile scowled, whipping his head back. "RRAAAAAGGGH!! STOP MOVING!!" The lizard snapped his eyes to his prey as fury doubled over itself. He was losing his patience.

He sucked in a breath and quickly gathered moisture in his maw, spitting it at the dog. Maybe he could direct a concentrated stream of water at the dog and... blind him or something. Anything to make him stop moving!

The puppy watched as the water-lizard seemed to go into a rage. The pup hadn't meant to acerbate his mood. He just couldn't allow himself to be eaten. Failure would cause him to no longer be able to go back and receive cuddles from his mother. "Zariel cannot stop moving." He stated simply in his monotone voice. There was no ill-will in his voice. He was only stating what he thought about failing his mother. A simple fact.

With his eyes on the predator he easily saw when the water was being spat at him. Zariel tracked them movement, the water seeming to come in slow motion as he reacted and ducked beneath it. Perhaps he could do something different? Another stare perhaps? It had staggered the creature before but now it might do more.

His eyes gazed at the lizard as he opened them wide again and attempted to show that he was the alpha and not meant to be messed with. This time he stared so hard that he felt a spark from his gem but no electricity as it usually did.

The dog stared so hard that the corner of his left eye began to twitch and his eyes began to burn.

This whole fight was just beginning to acerbate the reptile. He watched as the mouthful of water he had conjured in swift impatience shot right over the dog's head, splattering in the grass and mud behind, then scowled again. His stomach rumbled in response, reminding him of its emptiness. Reminding him of the reason why he was fighting in the first place. And yet, he should have known that Gembounds were a lot harder to take down than the lesser animals he usually hunted. He should have known that this meal wouldn't simply sit and serve itself to him on a silver platter, no; these creatures didn't want to be eaten. These cognizant, speaking, relationship-forming creatures most especially did not enjoy being pegged for food.

Yet he persisted.

The dog still did nothing, and Ghanyarah had since realized that he was too slow to be able to take it down physically. A lunge here, a splash of water there, and the dog had dodged every move. Ghanyarah gritted his teeth, and if a lizard could snarl then he would. He ducked his head down and matched the canine's gaze, holding that stare with furious determination. He would win. He would feed. But no matter how long he held the stare he could feel him losing his patience. His heart began to speed, and he didn't know if it was due to anger or hunger or whatever other high emotion that his unruly meal was subjecting him to. He hated it. He hated feeling those things! The dog needed to die!

"AAUUUUGH!" Ghanyarah finally loosed a furious cry, swinging his head in an attempt to displace the effects of the dog's stare and calling forth a surge of his magic once more. It leaped from him in tangible ropes, grasping for the body of the dog, seeking to destroy, to tear apart, to throw him aside and finally end this.

He stared... and stared... and stared... Again though it seemed to make the lizard-creature angry. Perhaps it was difficult for him to come to terms with the fact that Zariel was an alpha. Well, in this situation he was an alpha because he didn't want to become the thing's lunch.

The loud frustrated call that the lizard released didn't even make the puppy flinch. He continued to stare until he felt his body grabbed by an unknown force. It ripped him up and then tossed him to the side like a ragdoll. The puppy made no sounds. Not when he was suddenly grabbed, not even when he collided heavily with the earth.

He felt something... Something in his side. It was uncomfortable. It made him twitch. It made his eyes bulge out --still staring eyes, mind you-- and made his nose furiously twitch. He hadn't felt anything like this before. It... It...

Hurt.

It hurt bad. It throbbed and throbbed and no matter how much he twitched or tried to get up. It hurt. In reality he was only bruised but to an animal that hadn't felt pain before it was a lot. Still he didn't whine. He didn't cry. He doggedly kept staring at the water-lizard, eyes never leaving. The thing would probably lunge again because it was so angry so he had to do something to stop it and possibly acerbate its mood further.

The pup twitched and twitched some more until finally he was able to call upon his powers and launch a great soggy glob of electrified spit straight at the lizard.

(language warning)

He couldn't control the anger that had suddenly burst inside of him. He didn't know where it came from, he didn't know what it was. He'd never known fury like this before. He'd known so many other things: fear, mostly, and hunger, and annoyance, and affection, but barely. He'd never known rage. This emotion took hold of him and wouldn't let him go. It ruled him, thrusting him into desperation that he never would have taken otherwise. He wanted to win. He was abhorred, he was enraged that the canine had avoided him so, he so ferociously insisted that the dog drop dead to satisfy his need. He was a predator. A hunter, a killer, an eater, how was he meant to survive if he could not take down this - a child? As the bloodhold wrapped its hot grip around the dog and tossed it aside, Ghanyarah roared his anger.

Then the child rose again. Again. As if he hadn't even a scratch on him. Ghanyarah was incompetent. The canine stared at him with those piercing eyes, relentless, and Ghanyarah's anger only doubled, tripled, he was furious, he wanted to tear the creature apart, he didn't even want to eat - he just wanted submission, victory, confirmation that he was meant to survive. He was not ready to give up this existence.

Ghanyarah nearly didn't even see the electrified saliva the dog spat at him, but last second sight of the sparking ichor granted Ghanyarah the ability to just barely duck his head out of the way, coming back up with a guttural hiss. "STOP! You insolent - piece of shit - fine, go!" The reptile snapped, taking a step back. His long tail lashed in the mud, then it would fall still, twitching with agitation. "I bet you taste like piss anyways!" Ghanyarah sneered and raised his head, staring down his long snout at the dog.

Fine. He would relinquish this hunt.

((Warning for a few words.))

The little pup was sure that the water-lizard would come forward and eat him but it didn't. So, he took the time to push through the pain and rise to his feet. His eyes remained on the lizard as he continued to stare at it, blankly now and without the use of his Alpha Stare. He wondered what would happen now. If he would still have to fight or if he would be allowed to go free. The thing shouted at him. Called him an "insolent piece of shit" ... Hmm, strange. The dog turned his nose onto his fur and sniffed. He didn't smell pleasant but he wouldn't call his aroma "shit" either. So, why was he being called that? It confused him greatly. His head tilted to the left at forty-five degree angle as he continued to stare with a slight glimmer of confusion in his eyes.

Then, he said that he tasted like "piss". Again the dog was confused and his head tilted in the opposite direction at the same angle. Then, he turned to sniff at his coat again. No. It didn't spell like "piss". He extended his tongue to give it a lick and while it did have the disgusting taste of mud he would not say that it tasted like what the lizard said. He turned his gaze back on the lizard. For some reason he was able to sense that the danger had passed. Possibly because the lizard now knew that he was the alpha here. "Zariel tastes like loamy soil. Zariel smells like loamy soil." He said simply in reply in his strange monotone.

Zariel's own head lifted to mimic the strange water-lizard's but he did not speak again. He simply stared up at the lizard with his blank and slightly confused, yet unblinking, stare.

The dog seemed to be utterly baffled by the obscenities Ghanyarah had shouted at him. The reptile watched as he turned and gave himself a sniff, and then a lick, testing the mud that slathered his white fur. He watched with, well, disbelief at first. Checking to see if what Ghanyarah had said was true. OF COURSE it wasn't true. He was just trying to insult the idiot dog and get him to leave! He didn't wanna see the stupid dog's face any more, especially since Ghanyarah couldn't make a meal out of him. He groaned and rumbled his anger, throwing his head back in exasperation. "Whatever!" The reptile hissed and turned, retreating back to the water. He was still hungry. Very hungry. But also very angry. He needed to get away from this terrible Gembound.

(Exit yara! Okay, i know i suggested they post a bit, but it just felt more natural for yara to storm off. Im sorry! Dont be mad at me ;>; <3) @Zariel

Again the creature seemed upset and it yelled out a "whatever" at him. Hmm, what did he mean what ever? Zariel's head tilted to the other side as he watched the water-lizard trundle back to the water. He would have to let Mama Arkrael know about this encounter.

That creature was most strange.

Zariel nosed about for a moment, keen eyes searching for where the fight had started. Once he was there the pup began to go back the way he came, counting his steps until he reached eight hundred four.

One. Two. Three. Four...
