Hah, so interesting. Ghanyarah never thought that magic could happen by just imagining it. He had to really feel it. He had to be able to manipulate it, send out his senses into the atmosphere around him and pull. There was always some tangible sensation, some action to accompany his spells, but maybe it worked a different way with that temperature manipulation... He couldn't dwell on it for very long, as soon enough he was running away, and then picking up that stick, and throwing it in the air and she focused her magic on it. She'd nearly missed it, but one half of the branch exploded with the magic, sending it flying in another direction as Ghanyarah artfully dodged the flying shards. "Magnificent!" He shouted in response, then popped back up through the bushes and scampered back to the clearing.

"Alright. Next test. I want to see exactly how far you can use your magic." Ghanyarah spoke mischievously, returning to the dog's side and pointing his nose out into the trees. "Between those trees is a passage corridor, you should be able to see quite a ways down. Try to use your magic on the furthest object you can see." He instructed and sat back.

( @Nova So how this'll work is she can roll for Dispel, and the roll will be the distance in meters that she blows something up. Obviously any failing rolls don't count :P)

The pup was a little frustrated that she didn't get a bulls-eye with the moving target, but her mind was pulled away from her personal failure and over to the new task at hand. As far as I can? Moving to stand near the lizard and see down the clearing. There was a number of trees, bushes and shrubs that were down the way. So many things to aim at but he wanted her to pick the farthest away. "I'll give it a shot." Straining her eyes, Nova would try for, what looked like, a bush, which was at least 20 meters away. The pup had no idea how she was able to use her magic, but she did understand her focus was the key. Trying harder this time, the pup focused on the bush and imagined in blowing up. You can do this . . . The air hummed a bit, breathing slowly as she did her best. Yet, the bush was just out of her reach. There was a BOOM but the boom was at least 5 meters to short and a random section of the murky water basted into the air. Her rump dropped to the ground, a little peeved that she couldn't get something so far away. Maybe with time, or maybe magic was just funny that way and didn't always work? --------- "Speech" Thoughts OOC: close but no cigar

Ghanyarah sat back and observed. He picked out the furthest object that he himself could see, narrowing his eyes, zoning in on it - but idly restraining himself in case he accidentally did something without thinking. It was easy to lose control of one's magic if they weren't paying attention, and the last thing he wanted to do was steal her thunder. Cleaving his thoughts was another explosion in midair, sending a splatter of mud and murk into the air. Ghanyarah's eyes widened, trying to pinpoint the origin of the blast, but to no avail - still, it was a little closer than the intended target. But that was a good distance all the same, and it meant that she would have quite a range on her, which was better than most of his own attacks.

"I see." He said pensively, then looked over to Nova. "Very well! I have assessed your skills, and have decided that I'd like to see how you fair in battle. Are you ready to fight?" Ghanyarah asked, darkening his brow in challenge. He angled his body towards her and fell silent, allowing her the chance to act if she so chose. Otherwise, the reptile would be quick to start the battle.

The pup had turned back to stare out to the location she was able to get with her magic, it was pretty far and after thinking it over, it was better then nothing at all. She could have done worse or even have lost control of her magic and it could have blown up in her face. Thank goodness. And did he say battle? Turning to face the lizard once more, the young female's mind went a mile a minute as she processed what he said. Was she ready to battle? Never had she been in a fight before . . but how else will she get stronger and be strong enough to protect Thistle from harm? I can do this. She had to, after all, why else would she agree for Ghan to be her teacher if all she did was practice magic and not use it in action. Standing up straight, her ears perked for a moment before falling back to the sides. "I . . " Clearing her throat, "Yes, yes I am!" Facing him all the way now, but she could do this. Just try and boom at the lizard and keep out of the way of his own magic. Though she agreed to battle, she didn't make the first move - and in Ghanyarah's opinion, that was a mistake. You should take every opportunity to get the first move in, especially if your opponent isn't properly prepared, and most especially if your opponent has never faced you and isn't wise to your tricks. He huffed and a devious smile curled on his lips. "Get ready." The reptile challenged, and with no room for her to really get ready, he launched his first attack. "Here it comes!" The reptile announced and laughed, feeling his cold magic snap around and claw under the ground, bursting up from below.

It didn't dawn on her that she made a mistake til the consequences bite her in the ass in the form of an attack from the lizard. His magic sent a chill through the air around them as something began to crack under the earth beneath her feet. Oh shit! The pup quickly tried to rush to the side and out of the way. Yet, she slipped on the wet earth and the spikes of ice reached up and caught her. The pup let out a high pitched YIP as she rolled onto the ground. The cuts dripped some blood to the melting snow and instead of tears, a serious expression grew on her face. She had to do better, she needed to be better! It was a mixture of pleasure and disappointment, but mostly a selfish satisfaction that he managed to catch her off guard. It meant that she wasn't as skilled as he might have thought she was. She may be good at handling her magic when she had the time to focus, but under stress and in the heat of the battle, she needed practice - she would need him. The lizard stepped back and stiffened his limbs as the ice spiked up beneath her, displacing his opponent. She rolled away but not without a few superficial injuries. He lunged forward, quick to throw another wave of ice at her.

A low growl rumbled in her chest as she watched the next wave of ice magic come her way. The pup had to get out of the way, or this whole fight would be just her running around and trying to no get hit. Nova lept to the side, but she slipped on some of the wet ground beneath her paws. SHIT! And it all happened so fast, she fell right onto the ground as the spike went up leaving a gash in her outer left thigh. What was happening, she thought she was stronger then this but apparently not. Getting to her paws, the black female was panting, violet eyes locked onto the lizard. I can't give up! She had to be stronger and now was not the time to cry. Even though there were tears trying to escape. The gash in her thigh was very painful and Nova was just a young thing. "I won't . . I won't give up!" POOR NOVA AAAA

Bracing himself, he sent out another lash of his cold magic, crystallizing the moisture in the mud and breaking through into the ground beneath the dog. One spike of ice followed by another pierced the air and he followed her closely, hoping to get her to at least move - but when she did, he saw her slip in the mud and one unfortunate tooth of ice slice right through her flank. Ghanyarah inwardly flinched - the reaction was barely visible, but it was there, and he attempted to recall his onslaught of magic to prevent any further destruction. The ice spikes ceased, but not without obvious damage to the surrounding area - crystals gleamed and gaped all around them, a dangerous trap easy to cut and stab anybody that wasn't careful. "You have to move more! Never stop moving!" He shouted, frowning.

For a reptile, Ghanyarah wasn't very fast - he could be if he really wanted to, but agility was not his strong suit. But he had honed his ability to compensate for that. A mammal like her, though, should be primed for fast movement. She should have been able to dodge his attacks, or at least get out of the way to prevent slipping on them. Ghanyarah allowed her a few seconds to recover and then he moved in again, darting right towards her. She would have to move this time, but hopefully failure wouldn't amount to any critical damage. He summoned forward the water in his body into his mouth, preparing to launch a torrent of it at her.

She would not mess up this time, that was not an option. As the lizard began to charge the pup, Nova was waiting for the right moment to jump. Ears were pinned back, counting softly in her head. 5 . . . 4 . . . 3 . . . 2 . . . And off she went, leaping up and out of the way of water to her face; having jumped onto the top of Gha's head. There was a small victory in her mind but was dissapointed that the narrow window to attack was missed. Nova once again was standing her ground, now on the other side of her teacher.
