Eira's anger only grew. Talons drove into her, blood dripped into her eye and tirned her vision red. The odemon's blood, as well as her own, soaked her, and into that slick feeling she focused all her rage, but the pain was getting too much too fast. Too much. Eira shivered, feeling her jaws slipping, and rather than what she'd expected, she felt chilling numbness creeping into her own limbs. No, no... she opened her maw, reluctantly letting go of the bird's leg. And then she felt herself falling, frost glistening in her wounds; it seemed she'd accidentally frozen herself rather than her attacker...

He was enraged. She hurt him! Gertrude flapped upwards, kicking out with his left talon angrily. He wanted her to drop. He wanted her to hurt. There could only be one.

There could only be one.

Gertrude was ready to finish this. He wanted to see the small being crumble to the ground. He wanted to see her body dissolve away. He wanted her gem.

Stiff and numb and shivering with pain, Eira hit the ground with a nasty thud, lying there disoriented for precious moments before she knew without a doubt in her mind that she had to go. She had to get out of the way. The demon's shadow was at the edge of her vision through the blurred and bloodied haze. She struggled to move, breathe, but she forced herself to stand. She felt an awful breeze on her fur then, she threw herself to the ground. So late that she felt those talons contact... But even still, they drove deep into her back, causing her to open her maw wide and scream.

She thought she was getting away, didn't she?

"Poor thing, I really do pity you..." he chortled. He unfurled his wings as his talons grabbed onto the poor wretch, "Out here... All alone... no one to come find your body when you're dead." Gertrude would move to keep hold of her and, ever so carefully, with his gem beak, he would aim to peck out her left eye.

Eira growled under her breath, both the pain and the anger causing her blood to boil. She saw their beak coming, knew what it was they were aiming for- but she was able to duck sharply out of the way. Her fur bristled and she ground her teeth together. Feeling their claws in her back, she struggled briefly, only to feel those claws driving themselves in further. She felt the warm wetnesson her back, and felt it running down his talons and focused on that feeling; tracking it to the demon, where she hoped the cold would find its home...

Ooh, he missed! Damn it all! The small gembound squirmed beneath him, growling. Gertrude's beak clipped shut with an audible snap as he glared down at the small being. How was she still standing anyway? Cold. Cold ran up his talons, the small rivers of blood freezing to his feet. It was cold, unpleasant, but still a weak attack. He would not let it hinder him, "So you resort to your magic too, huh, little rat?" he cooed, "Don't worry, precious, your stone will look nice in my nest when this is all over and, who knows, you might be lucky and one day be brought back to life by my magic..." Gertrude cackled, "But probably not, you featherless mongrel!"

His beak dove down again, trying to puncture the right eye this time. When one escapes, go for the other.

Eira bared her small teeth in a savage snarl. How dare he! How very dare this demon talk to HER in such a way! The young one's anger seemed to fill her entire being but she noticed it lashing out for her mere milliseconds too late. Pain reverberated through her skull and she leaped back, shaking her head and screeching involuntarily; blood poured from her right eye.

What a display for a hero...

Shaking and jarring and shivering, she tried her best to look noble despite her wounds, keeping back at more of a safe distance before she bellowed her reply.

"Magic or no, I'll make sure your filthy reign ends!" she shrieked. "I'll make sure you hurt no-one else!"

Especially not my partner...

The creature dashed away a bit, leaving the aftertaste of blood in Gertrudes beak. The small being spat verbal venom. Gertrude would have smiled if he could,"Ohohoho, my reign has just begun," the pigeon laughed lowly, "Anyone who disagrees will get hurt. It's unfortunate, really. You could have made a good scout." Gertrude's head cocked to the side, "But now, you have to die." Kicking off, the prince dove for the small creature. Pain shot up his left talon with every step. Unfurling his wings to lift his feet from the ground. He reached to shove his left talon in her always-open maw since it was already injured. The bird aimed his right talon to grasp the edge of Eira's head-gem, planning to rip her bottom jaw down and her head gem upwards to see the result.

Eira's face twisted into an ugly grimace as she finally regained her composure, but there wasn't any sign of her giving up. She hung back as the demon approached her, delaying their attack as long as she could. Small, uncontrollable whimpers rose in the back of her throat. The pain was awful, she could hardly see, the entire right side of her face was numb. She saw the intent in his eyes and in the greedy talons he raised towards her, and one eye sparked- the other was a complete mess of congealed blood.

She slipped away from that bloodied talon like a tiny bloodstained ghost, skittering away, and then just watching. Waiting, ever waiting for an opening.

"If you think I'll just curl up and go down to someone like you, you're wrong. I'd rather die to a rock than to a brainless, stupid, horrible demon like you!"

Eira spat a glob of saliva in the feathered Fiend's direction, not particularly caring whether or not it hit.

SHE GOT AWAY. SHE SAID SHE WOULD RATHER DIE TO A ROCK. Gertrude stopped, "Heh... heheh... HohohohahaHAHAHAHAHA!" His head fell back with laughter, then snapped forward, suddenly focused on the creature. Two steps and his wings shot out.
