He had made a lunge for her, and then in a flash of unexpected agility, the dog managed to fly right over him - she landed on his head and bounced right off, causing the stream of water he shot at her to completely miss. Ghanyarah couldn't help but scowl loudly when her weight suddenly pushed his head down, but he recovered just as quickly, thrusting his head back up again to assist her leap. As she cleared him, Ghanyarah whirled around to face her again, but he wasn't going to hold back - especially since she had proven herself capable of dodging him at all. Facing her, he conjured another mouthful of water, hoping to catch her off guard with the quick follow up.

The very fact that she successful in dodging had gotten the dog excited! That meant she could do it again if she needed too! Darting out of the way of a pathetic water attack. Was the lizard getting tired or was she just getting lucky? Ether way, she took that as an opportunity to run straight on at Ghanyarah. Yet, as she ran at him, the young gembound tripped over some reminisce from a log she blew up and slid into home right in front of the lizard. She was again too fast for the lizard's water attacks, which might have been attributed to her energetic dodging and sudden burst of confidence from having avoided him just now. Or maybe it was because Ghanyarah too was getting a little too ahead of himself and throwing careless attacks. Or maybe he was growing ever more cautious of actually harming her, but there really was no reason for him to go easy on her. If he were a real enemy, he wouldn't be going easy on her. So why should he lessen the load now? He snorted and displaced his legs, thrusting his head up higher to see her come running back at him, preparing his final attack. A serious shot. You might die if you don't know how to dodge.

And yet as he felt magic curl around his own feet, reaching out from his hide and lashing at the air like cold tongues, he watched her crash into the remains of a broken log. She came stumbling forward, tripping over herself, causing Ghanyarah to step back - but by no means holding off on unleashing all of his magic at once, intending to capture her in his icy grasp.

Bright purple eyes were wide as she realized she had messed up; but could she make this right? Nova watched as magic surged out from the lizard, getting a feeling that he wouldn't go easy on her this time. Rolling out of the way, feeling the brisk cold of ice just barley miss her as the black pup hurried to her feet. I got this! The gem that hugged the back of her neck began to hum, focusing right at her teacher. Look like she had an ace up her sleeve. The burst of energy was released at Ghan. He was feeling like he had her in his grasp, and yet at the last minute, she rolled away - breaking the connection of ice around her paws, only to bark out blast of energy. It was powerful enough to cause him to recoil, hissing and shaking his head while he skidded away through the mud. "Argh!" The lizard howled out. There was significant pain from the blast - it was the only attack she landed that really managed to hurt him, but even then it wasn't so much pain as it was just... a numbness from the sudden blast of pressure. "Well... you did pretty well." He admitted once the feeling of tingling began to fade away, and the reptile fixed his gaze on her again with a huff. "But you're still too slow. You need more practice. For now, you can rest - practice by yourself - and meet me again in a few days. I'll test your skills then."

Ghanyarah spoke decisively and settled down into the mud. Much as he wanted to study her technique some more, even he was tired. Though he hadn't moved nearly as much as she did (even if she failed to dodge most of his attacks) such was a spenditure of energy that he was unaccustomed to, unless hunting or fighting, which still wasn't very often. Falling silent, Ghanyarah raised his head and watched her, but at this point, he was spent.

The fight was for practice, but the adrenaline pumping through her veins was real. Lucky for this pup, the lizard wasn't playing for keeps and took the first chance he had to end her with a gruesome death. No, she was lucky that he wanted to train her. And Nova learned something. Just because she was powerful, didn't make her that strong. The magic from the black dog was wild and unpredictable, and she needed to learn to focus it. As well as learn to dodge.
