As Kallista continued to explore, she stumbled upon Polaris, the core of Origin. It was very well-lit and quite pretty. She looked around and noticed the roof had tiny clusters of growing fungi. The rocks took on a deep purple on the walls, and a tawny brown on the floor. She felt more energetic, and partially wished to jump around and practice her spell. But she ignored that for now. Perhaps she would practice her magic later. For now, the cat wanted to explore.

And explore she did. She wandered throughout the cave, wondering if anyone else was nearby. She looked at how pretty this room was, with all of the colors and light. She quickly grew bored. The beauty of this room could only keep her entertained for so long. She sat down, and then decided she may as well practice her magic. Why not? She hadn't used it before, and was already 3 cycles old. She may as well do it now.

So she stood and closed her eyes. She focused her thoughts on the gem that rested on her flank, and slowly began to imagine her spell being performed. She held her breath, excited but also nervous. She hoped it would work, oh how she hoped it would.

Before long, small sparks of electricity began to crackle around her fur. She could feel her fur lift up from the static. She looked around, wondering if anyone was nearby. Nobody seemed to be. She wondered if she could make it jump somewhere off of her body. She concentrated, focusing on a rock nearby. She tried to imagine it jumping over to it. After some time, she succeeded. She grinned. She quite liked this spell. She hoped someone was watching, but she couldn't see anyone.

Fira’s adventure with Destiny and the river had stuck with her ever since it had occurred. She now steered clear of the water’s edge, though not so much out of fear as just a sense of self-preservation. She’d try swimming again when she was older and bigger. For now, she knew she was far too small to swim against the current, and being in the water as a weak swimmer was a bad idea. Still, she hung around Polaris more than any other area, though she couldn’t figure out why. The place appealed to her, even more so than her venture into Eridanus. Perhaps it was the… energy here. She could feel it all around, and it was stronger in Polaris than it was anywhere else in the caves that she had yet explored.

As she padded along, she cast out her Magic, to try and pick up a Gembound heartbeat, but either the spell cast failed, or there just wasn’t anyone around. She shrugged nonchalantly and continued on. However, not too soon afterwards, the scent of another Cat came wafting into her nose and the glands on the roof of her mouth. She knew that scent only because she was a Cat herself. It was the smell of something familiar.


She followed the scent and came across a Cat who was much bigger than her, and now there was the sharp smell of electricity in the air. And the Cat’s fur was crackling. “What’s going on?” she asked, not out of fear, just simple curiosity.

Before long, someone approached. Kallista turned to them, and saw that they too were a cat. Kallista was bigger than her, since she was presumably older. "Magic. That's what's going on. Static magic," she grunted. She was glad someone was around, but she wasn't going to show that she was. She continued to mess around with her magic. She enjoyed feeling the static on her fur, lifting it up slightly.

"Is there are magic that you can do?" she asked, tail flicking. Eventually, the static around her died down until it was gone, and she was left with her fur standing on end. She gave a brief shake, which made it lie down some, but didn't bother licking herself to get it to go fully down. She sat down and stared at the smaller cat in front of her.

Fira sat down and watched as the electricity crackled around the other Cat. Her ears perked forward with alertness and curiosity. She was good at observing without interfering. It was how she learned. She shut up and watched. When the Feline asked her if she could do any Magic herself, she attempted to call forth her fur color-changing spell. She sat for a good fifteen seconds, attempting to bring it out and have it wash over her, but the tingly feeling that told her it was working never happened. She let out a breath and stopped calling her Magic.

“I was trying to show you one of my spells, but it’s not working right now. It does that sometimes. Give it a few minutes and I’ll try again.” She sat in silence afterwards, until some sense of social graces made her say, “Oh. I’m Fira.”

Kallista grunted. "I see that." She flicked her tail, bored of the little leopard already. She lay down and watched them through narrowed eyes. She wasn't entirely sure of what to do now. Her ear flicked as she was told the other's name. "I'm Kallista. Not that It matters." She continued to lay there, before deciding to lick herself a bit. She didn't much want to talk to the other-Fira, she supposed-but if she wanted to talk to her, then alright. She'd talk, even if she didn't like it.

Something told Fira that this Cat didn’t necessarily enjoy her company. That was fine with the leopard. Fira understood that. She was prone to hours of solitude, though she didn’t know if it was because she was a Cat, or if it was due to some other aspect of her personality. She shrugged off the feeling of being disliked — how did she really know if the Gembound disliked her or not — and focused on her Magic again. This time the tingly feeling rushed over her body almost immediately. She gave a tiny grin, turning up one corner of her mouth in a sly smile that could be easily overlooked.

Her fur changed to a deep rusty-red-orange. This was a color she rather enjoyed, more so than the orange-cream color that happened when she went to a lighter shade instead of a darker one. This color reminded her of something, though she couldn’t place what it reminded her of. Needless to say, she was glad her Magic had decided to work this time. She looked up at the Cat, not saying a word.

Kallista was still licking herself when something caught her eye. Looking up, she saw that the leopard's fur had changed color. She blinked, impressed. She quickly gave her head a shake, clearing the look. She wasn't impressed with something such as that! That would provide little use to anything. She preferred having a spell that was actually useful, in like a battle or something. That spell-whatever it was-could provide some use, she supposed. If you wanted to hide. "I see you got one of your spells to work," she snorted, not really caring if Fira managed to get her spells to work.

Fira raised her eyebrows at the cat’s response, suddenly feeling like she didn’t need to waste her time here. If the tiny cat really didn’t want her company, then there was no reason to stick around. She gave her cousin Feline a nod of the head, then got up and padded away, wondering where to head to next….
