QUESTS/EVENTS
Torrential downpours cause localized flooding and many upset cats. Along with these frequent rain, from gentle drizzles to heavy rainfall, there seems to be a flux of Magicka drawn in particular to water sources. Occasional jet streams of warm air make narrower tunnels harder to navigate. On occasion, the rain intensifies, becoming howling storms with sleet or large hail. However, the temperatures overall are a little warmer, with snow and ice in temperate caves somewhat receding.
Destiny floated in the cold and quiet waters nearby her and Fira's den, an action she'd found herself indulging in more and more recently. The cold was soothing on her gem, piercing headaches more sparse and less sporadic. Their two little ones were either asleep in the den or playing somewhere nearby. She wasn't sure, she'd been floating here for a long time.
She didn't know what else she could so other than this, and even here she was aching. She was happy, but aching. Occasionally, her bill would pop out, ripples spreading out around her, and she'd take a breath... and then she'd be gone, with only the tips of crystal spires poking out of the water.
With her hollow eye sockets stinging with shooting pains, and her breaths soft and rasping, Destiny hardly dared to consider the inevitable. But even still she couldn't help but wonder.
Rimese had been walking around, no certain place in mind of where to go, when he stumbled across Polaris. He had never been here before, having spent most of his time in Monoceros, but he decided to explore. It wasn't long before he came across what looked like a den next to a river. He couldn't quite make out what was inside the den, so he moved on, over to the river. As he looked at the water, he noticed a bill come up quickly before disappearing. Looking closer, he saw crystal spikes poking out of the water.
He walked closer and waited for the bill to come up again before speaking. "Hello. What brings you to this river? Don't you want to come out?" From all that he could see, it sparked a slight recognition in him, but he wasn't sure what it was from. Had he ever seen her before?

Distantly, and just beyond her focus, Destiny heard a voice. A familiar one, muffled by the water that lapped around her spires. Curiosity got to her, bringing her once more crashing back into her conscious body. The platypus blew some bubbles from her bill before raising her head just up above the water to take a breath, before quickly sinking back down with the weight of her gem.
Her flippers trailing in the silt, she slowly paddled her way back to shore, heaving herself out onto the muddy bank with the gait one would have expected of an ancient turtle laden by the burden of its heavy shell. "h-hello!" She breathed, trying to work out where the voice she'd heard was coming from.
The young lady felt particularly sluggish today, but even still she tried to find them for herself, straining to grasp at tendrils of magic. It took a while, but she soon managed to pick up the frail yet steady vibrations telling her of a heartbeat nearby. Slowly, surely, she turned her eyeless head towards them.
"D-don't be all scared of me..." She opened her bill in a gentle smile.
Rimese watched curiously as the other began to waddle out of the water. When she came out fully, his eyes widened. He had seen her before; it was Destiny! He recalled seeing her just as her gem was starting to hurt her. She seemed in a lot worse condition now-she didn't even have eyes! He watched as she seemed to figure out where he was. He slowly walked closer, his ears lowered. "Oh, Destiny..," he murmured. He didn't like seeing her like this.
"I'm not scared of you, don't worry." He lay down beside her. "How...how have you been? Aside from the gem," he coughed. He could remember when she was young. She was always so happy and bright! But then her gem began to cause her pain...and he didn't like that one bit.
Destiny once more heard that voice, and now that it was no longer muffled by water and pain, she began to recognize it. A twinge of familiarity crept into her heart, and she struggled to remember who it was. Then it clicked into place. She remembered. This wasn't a stranger at all, but an old friend.
"I-it's you..." She murmured, voice hushed in amazement. She barely remembered that day, her memories had blotted out the terrible pain. But she remembered that voice. Comforting and wonderful amidst the rolling waves of darkness. "F-feels like I haven't seen-... Uh... Heard... You since forever."
She felt the other's warm hide as they came to lie beside her, and Destiny allowed herself to flop down onto the earth, flippers sliding out from under her. She relaxed at their kind words, a feeble smile on her beaky face. "I've been well! Me an' Fira had two little babies!" She cried happily, her voice rising in excitement. "An' life's been good! J-just a little hurty..."

"Talking looks like this!" Thinking looks like this...
"It has been a while, hasn't it?" Rimese lightly chuckled. He began to smile as she told him what all had happened. "That's great! I knew you would make a wonderful mother." He wondered who the other parent was. How would something mixed with a platypus looked? "I bet they look beautiful, just like you." He grinned at her before realizing she wouldnt be able to see it. He sighed a little. He didn't like how Destiny was in pain. It wasn't fair! Why did she have to be in so much pain? She didn't deserve it. She had a kind soul; why was that being punished?
"I havent really been doing much. I've mostly been here and there, watching. Not really much to see in Monoceros, so I decided to go over here. I've never been here until now, so I figured i had to get over here sometime. And...I ended up meeting you. So Im glad i decided to come over here." I was afraid I wouldnt get the chance. He didn't dare say the words out loud. He was starting to get attached for Destiny-dangerously so. He didn't get attached to anyone, for it was too risky. Yet here he was, starting to get attached to her. And who knows how long she'll even last?
Destiny gave a vigorous nod, before becoming still and wobbling unsteadily on her flippers as the motion caused dizziness to wash over her. The platypus giggled bashfully as she came to, placing her paws square and holding herself firm, sinking back down into the mud. "You really think so?" She asked, nothing but keen admiration and bashful pride showing on her face. "I-I mean, Fira does all the hunting and everything. I'm only really there for c-cuddles."
Destiny paused to think, but that silence didn't last long.
"A-and also, our babies aren't the only ones! Whenever I hear a big crack! I go out and rescue the new babies who are all alone. "
She gave another awkward, warbling giggle.
She nodded. "I've just been here. I made a little home here and now I live here with my mate Fira. She's... Been away hunting for a while, but we have two little ones. I'll have to introduce you to them! I bet they'll love you. You're so sweet and nice..."
She opened her bill in a broad grin.
Even now, here she was pulling back the pieces of herself. No different than when she was just a little one, on that first day that they'd met.
"Well, cuddles are great! And everyone loves cuddles, right? Your babies will love cuddles from you," Rimese chuckled. "And I bet that every little one you come across is glad to see you. There can be a lot of bad gembounds out there, but you're one of the best ones! Anyone who sees you must be lucky."
Rimese glanced over toward the apparent den. He smiled. "I bet Fira is glad to have you. Anyone would!" At the prospect of getting to meet the babies, his eyes began to shine. "Oh, I would love to meet them!" His smile broadened. "Oh, you're sweeter and nicer than I am!"
Had she been human, Destiny probably would have gone red. Still, she was giving Rimese (or where she thought he was) a beaky grin. "W-well, I love cuddles too. I love cuddling them. They're g-getting too big for that now, I think..." Destiny thought to herself, the smile fading a little into a look of thoughtfulness. "An' Fira was never much of a cuddler!" She smiled at the mention of Fira; Destiny always loved to talk about her mate. And her kids, for that matter, including all those she'd adopted. She wondered where they were now... even those she hadn't seen since...
Sadness again.
"B-but you're so sweet and nice... And I just do what makes everyone else h-happy..." the platypus thought about that, remembered the last time she'd heard Rimese's voice. She knew what he looked like a long time ago, but they were both little ones then, right? "You're really nice and sweet. And I bet you're really handsome, too!" she declared, a beaming smile breaking out on her face.
