The wobbly fawn still wondered the area where he had emerged from his gem cocoon. He still missed its luxurious safety and warmth but as the days passed he was forgetting. Forgetting the experience of nothing and remembering the experience of everything. As much as he pined for the warmth and safety of his crystal nest it was long gone and its memory was being replaced with the real world. It would not be long before the little nest was completely wiped from his memory. He was not even sure where the majority of the fragments from his cocoon were. He glanced around, the only yellow gem he could see was the reflection of his own from the pool of water he was standing in. He had been alone for a while and for him loneliness gave him time to practice, practice walking, practice talking and anything else he thought he needed.

The first time hunger had hit him he had been confused, the pit in his belly stung and hurt and so he had cried out for help. Yet there had been no one around to help him, it was not long before the moss growing on the rocks around him and small plants had looked positively delicious. The first taste of moss had him gagging of course. The was not a lot of plant matter to it, he had almost chipped his teeth on the rock and it was crunchy, from dirt beneath it and hard to chew. Yet his hunger meant he kept eating it. The small plants were much tastier of course, yet he was more familiar with moss. A few hours had passed where he had stared at the plants in a conspiratory manner yet that had passed. Now he nibbled where he wished in a carefree manner. His first experience of thirst was quenched in the same manner, his mouth had gotten so dry that the water seemed enticing. This was how he was learning to survive. Experience and extremes.

Now he stood in a puddle of muddy water, having stood still for so long that the fish were nibbling at his hooves. Cleaning off the plant matter that had gotten stuck to them, he quite liked the fish, they were calm and skittish just like he was. He smiled down at the fish and stepped out of the water, chuckling to themselves as they darted away, hiding where they could.

Kin-Kin hadn't been to Pisces in a long while, and she couldn't help but wonder why she'd come back. The moisture ruined her fur and clung to her cape when it dragged around her paws. Perhaps she was wondering if an old friend would be here, or even had become bored of Polaris and went out looking for adventure. Not even she was really sure. Truth was, it wasn't really an intentthat had brought her here. Truth be told, she just walked, her blade clinking softly against her leg. Although she was limping slightly and aching from her recent battle, she felt triumph at the mere fact that she knew what this thing could do.

Sure, the battle itself could have gone better, but she had been slightly... overzealous. She'd actively sought out that Gembound looking for a fight, and there was no surprise that they'd retaliated.

A wry grin stole onto her features despite herself as she wandered, stepping into shallow puddles and watching tiny tiddlers of fish scatter before her. Before long though, she looked up, and saw a spindly-legged fawn moving out of a small pond nearby. Kin-Kin tilted her head, and began to make her way towards them. It was funny seeing a deer in a place like this... then again, could the same be said for wolves? A chuckle escaped her fanged maw. She could eat the fish here, but she couldn't see much greenery around for the little one to snack on.

"Hey, Kid!" she called, approaching them with a flick of the cape across her back. "You lost or somethin'? You don't look like the type to snack on seaweed, or the things that live in it for that matter."

Soren's head turned as he stared at the wolf. Some inner instinct told him to run, but his curiosity overpowered that. He frowned, confused by the conflicting emotions. Perhaps he stared, for a little bit too long. The pale coat, the blue cloak and the stone on her chest. He looked down at his own stone, looking back at the wolf's stone, head cocking to the side curiously. It was then that he realised he hadn't replied to the wolf, of course unlearned in etiquette he was not aware that that was quite rude. The young gembound opened his mouth, snapping it close quickly and staring wide eyed at the older gembound. He hadn't tested his speech with others in a while and strangely enough he felt quite nervous.

"Sea-weeed?" he asked, pronouncing each letter, each syllable. It was quite clear that he was still learning the finer details of linguistics. He glanced around, assuming the wolf was speaking about something around them. He frowned, looking back at the wolf, not sure what the wolf was talking about. He understood the words the wolf had spoken of course, he was just slow to reply and after a few moments he spoke more.

"Not lost" he said simply in reply, he stood still where he was. Watching the wolf. Wondering if he should flee this creature.

Ah, poor kid seemed to be struggling with the basics. Kin-Kin smiled as though pitying, approaching the young fawn further, and noting that they seemed very... alert... all of a sudden. Heh. Rightfully so, she supposed. Kin-Kin could have right there earned a name for herself by noting how tasty they looked but she felt like that... however true... would be slightly inappropriate. "Seaweed! Y'know, the green stuff in the water. Perhaps it doesn't grow in here..."

She chuckled, although there wasn't all that much to chuckle about. "If ya say so, Kid. But I can think of better places for the likes of you. Lush grasses, sweet fruits, green leaves... Ah yeah. The whole package." She rolled her eyes as though dreamily considering. Well... it wasn't a lie. Eridanus had all of those things, and would most definitely be a better place for a growing fawn.

She approached them closer despite the little one still looking like they wanted to book it at any moment. What was it with young ones and thinking she was going to eat them? At least it never got any less funny.

Soren stared at the water, the puddles were muddy and most of the plant life he had seen in them was not exactly seaweed, more of a moss-type substance like on the rocks. But he would remember that. he looked back at the wolf, not having noticed her advance. He had heard the wolf's words, but he as per usual was not very fast at replying. The shock of seeing the creature closer gave him a fight, of course instead of running he fell backwards, something that seemed to happen to him everytime he was a bit too startled. He landed on his rump with a thump, his legs once more bent at strange angles as he tried to make himself as small as possible. He was not sure why he did this, some instinctual way of defending himself perhaps? Either way the young fawn was now folded double, staring wide eyed at the wolf.

It took him a few moments before he spoke, it was concentrated and the words were slow to escape from his mouth, every syllable and letter pronounced. Most would get annoyed at how long it took him to say the simple phrases, "There is food here." He crumpled his forehead in concentration, pointing his hoof at the ground; hoping it would work this time. He had not being able to get this right since the last time with Nox, yet he didn't want this wolf taking him away from his birthplace.

His frown looked more like he was constipated than anything else yet still he tried to pull on that green energy he knew was inside him. The slightest crackle of the electricity passed over his stuck out leg, congregating towards the hoof. He watched with a smile as the energy got bigger and willed it to shoot at the ground where he was pointing. Of course as inexperienced as he was it didn't go where he wanted, rather landing in the water. With a huff he turned his head too look at the water and of course nothing happened.

He looked at the wolf, not quite knowing what to say. Surely now the creature would force him from this comfortable world that he knew. It was not the first time he was forced from comfort of course, the yellow gem that had once encased him was now long gone. Although this wet area was all he knew, the wolf was right it didn't provide from him. But he was stubbornly set on staying her. He didn't want to feel that heart-clenching fear he had felt when he had first emerged. He wasn't sure he could handle it. Perhaps these worries were inane, not something he should worry about... yet who wouldn't worry about the unknown?

(Oct 09 2016, 05:39 AM)Kin-Kin Wrote:
Kin-Kin couldn't help but laugh as of course, the little one fell backwards and crumpled to the ground with legs in all directions. Oh, young ones; so hapless and inane... Although it seemed that the kid had at least triedto retaliate in some way, they had failed. Whatever they had tried to do was lost on her, but she felt sure it was some kind of magic. "You tryin' to do magic there, huh kid?" she asked them, calmly. The shimmer of their gem and the wild motions they'd made as though to direct something gave it away. "Well, no-one can do magic like I can."

Her fur lit up in a blaze like fire as she left the statement open to fester in the young one's mind, leaving them to assume what they will about her innate power.

Such an action no longer left any trace of exhaustion on her mind; the creation of her weapon had no doubt left her with more endurance than she started with.

"Food here? Of course there is. That is, if you want no teeth and a mouthful of rock." she grinned, baring a mouthful of pristine white fangs. "Or you enjoy the taste of the little fishes in the ponds. I know I do." She turned her back on them and put some distance in between the two, so that they might get the confidence to stand up again. She tried not to laugh.

Kin-Kin's laughter made Soren want to run off, hide from this cruel creature that would laugh at his failure. His embarrassment shone through him as he took on a demure appearance. Staring at the ground, his ears flat and his shoulders hunched. He listened to the wolf's words listlessly and somehow they didn't make him feel better. It felt as if his own inadequacies were been shoved in his face. It took all he had to hold back tears. Once he had regained control of his emotions he glance up at the wolf, her fur glowing as if on fire. Remembering Nox's little explosion he jolted backwards, his eyes wide as he waited to be blown back. Yet after a few moments this did not happen and still with a demure look his head cocked to the side in curiosity. This creature obviously had more experience with magic than he or even Nox, this creature was obviously far older. He was about the same height as this creature, maybe a bit taller because of his spindly legs yet this creature was definitely more experienced.

As the creature turned her back Soren bolted upwards, running to walk next to the creature, his questions were endless. "Magic?" he said, thinking carefully before speaking again, "Its called magic?" he asked, head still gently cocked in curiosity. "Nox has magic too... but she almost blew me up... you didn't though... is it the same?" he asked, his questions falling off his tongue. He barely needed to think about the talking, much like the walking he had come to realise that if you concentrate on the action then it is a hundred times harder.

He glanced around at the female's comment about food, this was all he knew and he was not sure if he wanted to say as much. Quite honestly he wasn't even sure where to look for food. He was nervous and scared about leaving this place yet... he longed for food other than moss and water-greens. "This is all I know" he said in simple response to Kin-Kin. "I'm not even sure what else to consider food. I have never thought of eating the little fish, they are beautiful. Why would one eat something of such beauty?... I'm Soren by the way."

"That's right, kid. Magic," Kin-Kin clarified, allowing the light to stream from her fur undying. She listened to their seemingly endless flow of questions, an ear perking to attentiveness as the wolfish smile never left her face. Knowing they'd moved after her, Kin-Kin kept walking, allowing the young one to trot alongside her. "Magic comes in a lot of different forms. It ain't about the magic, but the one making it," she explained, thinking back to her multitude of clashes with Imperia.

"Hmmm... you've never seen anything green and leafy before?" Kin-Kin wondered what on earth the kid had been eating in this place. There was probably life hidden somewhere, but it didn't seem like the type to feed a deer. It was probably the closest she'd come to showing actual concern in a while. "Well, it all depends on your outlook... and your stomach... what I gotta eat you'd probably find pretty gross. Like the little fishes... But uh, I don't think you wanna know what else." Kin-Kin felt her last cave deer meal sitting heavy on her stomach. It was a lesser gembound, sure, but it might make this... greater deer... uncomfortable.

Just the way of the world, though...

No use being all sensitive about it. "Uh. Name's Kin-Kin. Don't wear it out! "

Soren trotted to keep up with the wolf, despite being as tall as the wolf he was not as experienced at walking. He was quite out of breath in a mere few seconds of walking yet his curiousity was what edged him on. Her words on magic had him cocking his head to the side even more, surely if he was able his head would do a full turn. So each and every creature had a different type of magic... did that mean that no two creatures were alike? Kin-Kin's next words confirmed this in some way or another. Every creature at different things. He grinned to himself, his a mind a whir of cogs, everythign was unique! Everything was different! Yet in some ways this upset him somewhat, did that mean he would never meet another such as himself? Would he always live in fear, running from those who scared him such as Nox or learning from those with strange abilities such as this Kin-Kin creature?

"So every creature is different... There are no two alike? We eat different things, we have different magics we... never quite match up?" he asked, his voice a little bit quieter than his previous excited state. It was not to say that he was no longer excited at learning these things rather that he was thinking. He was sure there was smoke coming from his ears with the thinking he was doing. "How are we all supposed to know what we eat? I mean... its not like there's anyone to explain it to you when you...." he didn't know what the word for it was. It had only been days ago when the yellow chrysalis had shattered, releasing him into the world and still... he wasn't sure how to describe it.

"Well if you eat fish and... other things" he didn't pry more on her reluctance to tell him, he was sure he didn't want to know. The thought gave him a pit in his stomach, yet he wasn't sure why. "What do I eat? I mean... The water plants and rock moss are what I have been eating but they taste vile. Surely I need not live my entire life on vile food?"

"Precisely. You might meet others of your species, but there is only one of you. In your life you might meet someone else who eats the same things and looks similar, but you'll never be exactly the same. Even when you meet someone else of your own kind. In all likelihood you'll find they look a little bit different or they'll disagree with you on some things... or it'll come down to magic." A grin broke out on her face. "For example, you'll never meet anyone out there like me. But then again... That's a given!"

Eating was simple concept, but it didn't seem like this young one quite got it yet. She smirked, feeling like she'd just about saved the day here. Poor thing. "When you see it, somehow you'll just know. You'll come to learn how to tell if something's good for you and what's not. Living here, I doubt you've had much of a chance to get to grips with it already..." Surely, this deer would find it easier to get along in Eridanus. The Maw of Mosses was covered with thick undergrowth and trees. Plenty for a growing fawn to eat.

Their next few questions only confirmed her thoughts. "You eat plants! Green stuff like the moss and the gross water plants. Now, to me, all that green stuff is pretty gross... I wasn't built to eat that... but by the sounds of it, you've got the grip of eating already. It's just, like I said, there are better things for a kid like you to eat out there."
