Saskiia awoke in a cavern, but something seemed off. She was lying on a cold substance, but suspended in some kind of jelly. The air was stuffy, constricting. The girl couldn't see a thing--it was as though she was cut off from the world, no vision. She did the only thing she could think of; throwing herself against the barrier between her and the outside world. Soon, the sound of glass cracking filled the air and Saskiia fell out of her Chrysalis onto the cold, hard, unforgiving floors of the caves. Her thick fur was weighed down with the substance. Saskiia's movements were slow at first, but as time wore on, gained speed. She rose to a standing position, bracing herself against the sudden wall to her left. It felt oddly soft, but at the same time, it was scruffy. The Pallas' Cat began stumbling forwards. Where she was going didn't matter to her. Saskiia was all alone in this world and liked it that way.

Tuck was wandering Eridanus as he did quite often. He wandered everywhere, to be sure, but he wandered Eridanus most of all, considering that he lived there. So when a new Gemling broke out into the world, he heard it. He heard the telltale sounds of shattering rock, a sound that was commonplace here in the Caves. He’d heard it countless times before, and he was only five cycles old, not even half the age of the oldest members of the Cave. Still, even at five cycles, he felt old. He was now old enough to Give Life or Stone and create new Gemlings. And this realization made him think back to the purple kunzite stone that lay hidden beneath the roots of his Home Tree. Now, he wondered…
— But there was a new Gemling to greet! Garmer, his Bonded kyte, was off hunting, so he went to greet the new Gembound alone. When he reached the site of the Birth, he laughed to himself, hanging sideways off the trunk of a tree. Another cat, he thought. How many more of you can there possibly be? What Cave Gods have decided that there needs to be fifty cats all born at once around Origin? ‘Fifty’ was exaggerating, but there had, in fact, been many new cats appearing around the Caves lately. Tuck was sad. There weren’t many herbivores around anymore.
Still, he leapt to the ground and slowly approached the Gemling. Immediately, the cat’s eyes stood out to the tiny marmoset. They glittered and shone the way no eyes should, and seemed made of stone… Oh. She was blind, due to an unfortunate placement of her Gem. He frowned because he knew that no amount of Healing Plant Magic could change the location of the opal that kept her alive. A shame. He shook his head, and called out a cheerful, “Hello! I’m a friend. I heard you hatching and came to see.” As an afterthought, he added, “I’m in front of you, maybe ten steps away.” He went silent then, wondering what her reaction would be.

A sound entered her ears. Was that a creature? Her suspicions were confirmed when his voice travelled through the cave, calling her a...hatchling? Saskiia realised that was what she had just come out of--an egg? After a moment, his voice came again, telling her of where he was. How had he known? Was it really that obvious that she couldn't see?
Her history seemed blank for the most part. No memories before she had just awoken. Or was she even awake? What if it was all just a bad dream? After all, she couldn't see, so how could she tell if it was? Of course, she didn't know if everyone else here was blind, or if it was just her. But it seemed like the man, who was ten steps in front of her, could see.
"Fr-friend to see," Saskiia spoke in his general direction, struggling to form words. She, after all, only knew those he had just spoken to her. The Pallas' Cat didn't know the full meaning of any of them, only a general outline using context. What she really had been trying to say, was a simple thank you.

Tuck sort of laughed at the cat’s words, since they didn’t make any sense. But that was okay because the said cat was a baby, just born. The fact that she had said anything at all was impressive. Tuck thought back to his own birth, the memories fuzzy, but he thought he remembered yelling angrily at a certain wolf for almost stepping on him. And then he’d run away, and that had been about the extent of their contact. She’d laughed at him, if he recalled correctly. Kind of the same way he’d just laughed at this cat. Well, now he felt bad.
“Yes, I’m here,” he said, trying to sound gentle, which wasn’t hard considering his size. His voice was not squeaky, as most Gembounds seemed to assume it would be. It only squeaked when he screeched in surprise or anger. Otherwise, now that he was an adult, it sounded a bit deeper than he ever expected it to. “Do you know your name?” he asked. Sometimes Gemlings seemed to know their names instinctively, like Tuck, and sometimes they needed a little coaxing. The marmoset wondered which this cat would be…
