A resounding crack echoed throughout the room; a telltale sign that yet another gem had found its way into the world. Long legs emerged first, all black as pitch, save one that was as white as if it had been dipped in liquid snow. A slender body followed until the form of a damp onyx and snow colored filly knelt within the ferns. Eyes opened, but she could see nothing. It was dark. As dark as it had been in her cocoon, so not much had changed. The sense of safety was gone, however. No longer did the warm chrysalis embrace her. Air, still warm but colder than the inside of her previous home, brushed against the girl's shining pelt, both chilling and drying her all at once.
She couldn't stay here. This much she knew. Shakily, the girl attempted to rise to her hooves. One failed attempt after another left her in the dirt. This, she didn't like. Dirt felt foreign. It felt wrong. Shaking off her coat as best as she could, the little filly finally made her way to a standing position. Legs wobbled, but the longer she stood, the stronger she felt. A soft whinny of pleasure ghosted through the masked filly's velvety nares. Now, if she only knew where she was going...

Even though I was pained, I just couldn’t turn down the sound of a chrysalis splitting open. What came from it? What else is this damned cave growing? Willing the energy within to cast a spell, I sent it forth to attempt and detect any type of heart beat from the creature, all the while walking slowly toward it. The heartbeat of the creature was strong, young, and brand spankin’ new. Using the sound of her heart beat, I crept closer, though I was certain she would hear me from a ways back. It was hard to quiet down this ass.
”Dear child,”
Velvety tones cooed.
”So new. It’s much too dark for you to be alone, darling.”
I had discerned her to be a female, smell alone could give that off. A grin spread upon silver lips, and I winced with pain as I neared the girl. I aimed to nudge her softly on the shoulder with my muzzle, hoping the creature was horse-like in some way. I knew she was on hooves, the sound of her small pitter patters made that much evident. Awaiting her response, I kept a close proximity but made an effort not to startle or harm the girl.

Osiren stood, looking around in the dark. A voice broke the silence as did the approaching sound of hooves. They sounded much larger than her own. Curled ears perked and she took a few tentative steps forward in the direction of the sound. Deep, pleasing tones continued sending a shudder down her tiny spine. Releasing a soft mewl, the onyx and snow foal stepped forward. Air ghosted through velvet nostrils as she extended her neck, reaching out towards the beast in the dark. She was too new to the world and didn't know any better. He could have been a predator. He could have snatched her up or stomped her to death.
Osiren's nose brushed that of the stallion and she could smell his injuries. Something within her willed her to try and fix them. Focusing, she pushed whatever will that she had forward, but it was to no avail. It seemed that she wasn't ready to release that will just yet. With a whispering girlish voice, the filly spoke, her dulcet tones laced with a slightly Scottish accent. "Who are you?" She was intrigued by the giant in the dark. He smelled good. Other than his injuries, that is.

She embraced me as well, and upon our touch I could feel that she was indeed a foal. The grin morphed into a smile - perfect. However deceitful I am, the child wouldn’t be harmed. She would be mine, though. Even still, I continued to place ginger nuzzles upon the girl. She asked who I was, and I gave a low chortle before answering.
”My name is Jaidev. And what’s yours?”
This part would be interesting. Some gems wanted to name themselves, other gems who found babies named them, and so on. Would she choose her own, or would she ask me to come up with one for her?
All kinds of thoughts coursed through my mind. Keeping her as my own, hoping to actually see her one day. What did her coat look like? How big would she be? What kind of magic did she possess, and was she talented with it? Oh the possibilities were endless, and I was impatient to wait them out, but I’d have to learn how. The cave did not run on my time or whims, because sadly, I truly wasn’t the god of all or any type of god at all. But damn, I can act like it.
”It’s not always going to be dark, little one. We must wait for the light to return.”
I didn’t want her to think this was life - pitch black. LIfe in the cave was full of color, until everything just went dark.

Behind the girl, her pure white tail swished in the dark. He was like her. How lucky was she to find one of her own kind?! Osiren gave an excited buck, hooves smashing into ferns. His nuzzles had been soft and warm. She'd enjoyed them so much that glee bubbled up within her.
The stallion introduced himself as Jaidev and the tiny filly exhaled happily. He asked who she was and the girl stilled for a moment, thinking about the question. After a while, one word began pulsing within her skull. "Osiiiiiren," she said, drawing the word out with a playful, girlish bashfulness. That was her name. Somehow she knew this.
Jaidev assured her that the light would come. She didn't know what light was, but she believed him. Again the urge to help him rose within her, but again she felt that same blockage. It was frustrating and she snorted in her grief. Stepping forward, the girl pressed her silky mane against the stallions chest. "Can I come with you?"

Such a joyous filly. It brought a smile to my lips and a flutter in my heart. Osiren, is it? It was a lovely name, and I lowered my head over her aa she asked to come with me.
"Of course you can, Osiren. Say, why don't you stay with me? At least for a little while."
I made it seem it was her choice. That's how it would always seem to her, that with me, she had such a luxury. Physically, I wasn't sure I'd harm the girl. Especially not now in her youth, it could ruin her potential, and I deserved only the best. I'd keep her warm, fed, and healthy. I'd watch her grow and help her along the way. She'd realize one day that she's mine, and mine alone.
I took a quick look around, and attempted to cast my spell to see if I could see anyone else. Young gemlings were always easy pickin's. Satisfied that we were alone, and able to see for the time being, I presented the girl my tail, gently swishing it before her so she knew where it was at.
"Grab on, and don't let go until I tell you."
Smooth tones instructed. As soon as she was latched on, I began to walk through the thick vegetation. I was careful not to go too fast or too slow. Our destination was some sort of cave, or type of shelter, to reside in for the next few days. Just until she has her legs under her, and a full belly. Then, we'd choose a home.

At his insistence that she stay with him, the little filly, blind as a bat in the dark, kicked up her heels and wobbled upon landing. It was good to not be alone. Somehow she knew that her kind were supposed to be together. As long as she was with Jaidev, she would always be with her kind. She would never be alone. Wobbling forward, she pressed into the stallion again, getting his scent all over her. She liked the way that he smelled. He smelled...safe.
At the stallion's instruction to take a hold of his tail, Osiren did so without question. Lightly, she took the long hairs between her flat teeth and did her best to wobble along behind him. With each step, her legs seemed to grow stronger until she was practically prancing behind him. Dainty yet high and proud steps became her gait. After they had walked for a time, a tightness formed in the girl's stomach and it groaned in protest. Tail still between her teeth, Osiren spoke softly. "My stomach feels funny." She was tempted to reach out and bite a tuft of fern off, but she dare not let go of Jaidev's tail. He'd told her to hang on, so she would. Again her stomach protested. Loudly.

As we traveled, she mentioned being hungry. She was right, she needed to eat sooner rather than later. But shelter was also a pressing matter. I flip flopped the options in my mind, having already been terribly injured, I wasn’t sure I could properly protect her. Heaving a soft sigh, I slowed.
”It’s because you’re hungry.”
She wouldn’t know what that meant.
”We’re horses, you and I Osiren. We eat mostly veggies, plants. Anything green.”
With the remnants of my night vision, I moved us to a smaller clearing between two large trees. It had soft, succulent blades of grass, perfect for a newborn. I lead her to it, then let her release my tail so she may eat. I lowered my head down to the grasses.
”Grass. Always a good snack. Try some.”
Besides, it wasn’t a bad idea to stop and have something so her stomach could hold over until later. It gave me some time to think of a possible cave, or any other makeshift home. All the while, large ears swiveled to attempt and catch any sounds of approaching predators and prey alike. It was difficult to trust these days, and what with this gorgeous little lovely babe, I didn’t want to take any chances.
