Fatigue hit Xireidi like a tidal wave as soon as he had settled. How long had it been since he'd rested? Had hunger been the only thing keeping him awake this whole time? Mind barely registered the last words of the youth as he exited, though he was still just lucid enough to mumble "Be safe." to the other.


Lucid imagery flashed before the red wolf's eyes as that strange transition between the waking world and the realm of dreams. A burning forest lay before him, and standing in its midst a vaguly canid creature comprised of pure shadow. His viewpoint shifted away from himself as mind fell further in to the dream.

His dream body was larger than his own, though still not large enough to stand against this bringer of death. Its teeth like daggers, and an arcane gleam in its eyes. A story started forming in this state as all grasp on reality slipped away.

The fire pack was almost completely gone now, and those of water were slipping away despite their leader's godly protection. Only the elemental packs of stars, of earth, and of the lost still held on to life in the face of this terror of shadow and flame.

"We can't win!" his formless presence called out to his body, "Run away!". The demonic fanged red wolf simply stopped and stared at him, a confident grin on his malformed face.

"You cannot win." it spoke to him, "You don't even exist."

Its head lowered as it approached the terror, still speaking to him even as it was turned away. "You play a game of pretend as I sleep. Let the true self awaken; only then will we have the power needed..."

The smoke from the forest started to become too thick to see, and the horrifying words now spoken by the shadowy figure too hazed by dream to comprehend. His sleep would be deep, gripping, vivid, but ephemeral to the waking world.

Putting together dream decided to take a page out of Xireidi's past form. I will say though; before now I never made the connection between Kanon (other site's antagonist I used to play) and the death crawler beetle who would become the basis for Xireidi's false belief system. Interestingly enough in both timelines this creature of flame and shadow is responsible for the transition from the ''villain' self to the fabricated 'hero' who never really existed before.
