Zevruu had wandered away from Remedy after some time, deciding to stay in Eridanus just a little longer. He strayed away from the burnt parts from a fire, but kept his eyes out in case it returned. He didn't need to burn in a fire. So for now, he walked, wondering what to do. He wasn't quite ready to go back to Orion. Soon, but not yet. As he walked, a thought came to mind. Something that he could do. Perhaps he could try out his magic?

He hadn't done a lot of magic in a while. Sure, he's cast a few spells here and there. But he wanted to get better at it. And what better way than to practice? He sat down, and closed his eyes, trying to focus deep within himself to draw out his magic.

Almost immediately, his fur began to light up. He smiled slightly. His fur always had a light glow, but now it was much brighter. He definitely liked it this way. Made himself look...He didn't know what. He just liked it. Maybe next he could try and get an orb of light to appear? He's known that one for a while, and it was one of his favorites. Definitely came in handy when it was dark.

Once more, he closed his eyes and focused. His glow became a little dim, but didn't go out completely.

Opening his eyes, he saw an orb of light beside him. Keeping his eyes on it, he made it fly around the room. His grin had grown. It'd been a long time since he used this spell, and he definitely missed it. He made it illuminate a few plants before looking away. The orb fell away, leaving the area slightly darker than before.

OK. That was two spells. Who knew how many more there was to go? He seemed to gain spells every so often. He closed his eyes again, reaching deep within himself, all the while thinking of the magic competition. He didn't like to think of it, but at the moment, he found it necessary. He remembered casting a spell he didn't know he had at the time. It had made a rainbow, and he tried to do that spell now, hoping it wouldn't fail.

It didn't take long for a rainbow to appear in front of him. He smiled slightly at it. It was very pretty, and seemed to shimmer. He sat in front of it, admiring it for a moment, before looking away to concentrate again. He was getting tired, he knew, but he still persisted. At this point, he had used almost all of the spells he knew he had. There was still the bauble spell, but he wasn't sure if there was anything here he could bauble. And then there was the spell he had gotten from the blacksmith. He was saving it for last, as it was his favorite and he wanted to keep it for as long as possible.

With that in mind, he began to attempt to cast a spell again.

At first, he didn't notice anything. But when movement caught his eye, he turned and realized he had two shadows. The new one was faint, and it was clear his magic hadn't worked that well. But it had still worked, and the shadow was there. He moved a little, watching as it moved with him. He tried to make it move separately, but nothing happened. Oh well. He wasn't even sure if he could make it move on its own.

Just a couple more spells. Hopefully. He was getting tired, and he wasn't sure how much longer he could do this. Close your eyes, reach deep within yourself, and bring it out.

Absolutely nothing happened. His eye opened, and everything was the same. While doing spells, he had wandered to a nearby stream. Looking in it now, nothing had changed. He sighed. Maybe he should try again? It certainly couldn't hurt, right? He took a deep breath. He was determined to do this. He'd cast this spell, whatever it was, and nothing would stop him. So he did the usual, eyes closed, focusing intently on bringing his magic out. He never could explain how he did this. He once tried to explain magic to two gembounds, cycles ago. He could barely remember what had happened.

He was losing focus. Back to drawing his magic out. His mind was clear of anything else, absolutely determined to do this right.

Again. Nothing. Just the same as it was just moments before. He let out a sign, but his determination was still strong. He knew he'd get it some time. Hopefully soon. He wasn't sure he could take another failure without just passing out right then and there. The attempt before this had been particularly draining, and he found he could barely stand. So he lay down. He didn't have to stand to cast a spell, did he? Certainly not.

So he tried it again. If it didn't work, he'd take a little nap and then try again. Maybe a little bit of rest would help. For now, he'd attempt. Just one more time.

Again. Nothing. Now he was really exhausted. His head drooped down, for he was unable to keep it up any longer. Eyes fluttered shut, and he fell asleep almost immediately, softly snoring. When he woke, he'd try again. Surely it would work then. Right?

After some time, Zevruu woke back up. He felt slightly more refreshed, though not by a lot. He certainly wasn't as exhausted as before, and that was enough for the serval. He was ready to try again. He'd try again and again, even if it killed him. He didn't think that constantly failing a spell would kill him, but who knew for certain? There was probably some spell out there that would kill you if you failed. Hopefully this wasn't such a spell.

This time, he tried something different. He'd keep his eyes open. He didn't think it made a difference, but maybe it would help this time somehow? He didn't know. He just wanted something to happen.

Again nothing. He growled in frustration. Would he ever get it? Or would he be stuck here forever, attempting a spell over and over again, only to never succeed? His old stubbornness was starting to kick in, and he knew he would stay here, attempting it, no matter how long it might take. It could take the rest of his life, and he'd still be here, attempt after attempt after attempt.

So he once again closed his eyes, as he found it to be slightly easier to focus than keeping them open. He once again reached deep within himself, hoping to bring his magic out. He didn't know if he could take another fail.
