Ever since Flicker had learned that she could produce static from seemingly nowhere, she had been doing it every chance she got. Sometimes if she turned her head fast enough after casting the spell, she could see it jump to her tail with a few sparks before fizzling out. It excited her, even when she sometimes shocked herself. The shocks were never too bad, not enough to deter her from doing it again. So, that’s exactly what she was doing now, casting the Static spell, and hoping it would work so she feel the little pops of electricity, hear the tiny zapping sounds, and watch the bright white flare up across her fur for a few seconds. It worked, and she quickly turned her head this way and that to look at the sparks, grinning like a fool.

Blackberry was carefully making her way down the old paths, her sharp eyes barely seeing through the dark, but it was enough so that she wouldn't slam into huge boulders or something. Not being able to see was so annoying and frustrating. She wanted to see what was around her, not blindly make her way who knows where.

Something bright caught her eye. She snapped her head towards the source of the light, but it had gone. After a moment, it flashed again, bright sparks of electricity. Was that another gen bound? Was it casting spark?

How dare they! That was her spell! Without another moment of hesitation, she turned and started waddling towards the animal. She was guided by the light that appeared every so often. Finally, she was close enough that she knew the other would see. However, when she reached for the magic, it immediately spiraled out of control and, instead of creating an impressive display, it merely shot back and hit her, fluffing up her feathers and causing her to tumble back.

Flicker looked up once the sparks stopped, aware of another Gembound in the vicinity. And they were coming closer to her. “Hey,” she called in greeting. “‘Sup?” But the other creature didn’t respond. They just kept coming closer. Feeling a little weirded out, Flicker took a couple steps back, but then they stopped. She stood there, not really knowing what to do. Why wasn’t the bird doing anything?

Then suddenly the bird did do something, its feathers fluffing up as it seemed to be shoved back by some invisible force. “Whoa!” Flicker exclaimed in concern. “What was that?” Now she stepped towards the bird, leaning forward to try and see if they were hurt. “Are you cool?”

Blackberry looked up as the face of a dog appeared in her vision, asking if she was okay. Her beak cracked open as she began to hiss. How dare they suppose weakness? She was better then them, she was stronger then them! She'd show them!

She leaped to her feet and spread her juvenile wings and glared at the dog. "Get away from me," she honked, letting go of more magic in her rage. This time, the sparks lit up on her feathers and bounced towards the coyote, hitting it in the side. She blinked in surprise, but then quickly collected herself. She stretched her neck off, showing that she meant business and if that thing messed with her, she'd ruff it up good.

Flicker had never been honked at before, let alone whacked in the side by a pair of goose wings. She stumbled back from the blow (though it didn’t actually do any damage to her), feeling upset and confused. That’s when she saw the sparks in the bird’s feathers. “Ohhh,” she said, a bitter note in her voice. “I get it. You think you’re better than me cos you can make sparks like me.” She scoffed, pretending not to be so upset. In truth, she was a day-or-two-year-old coyote pup whose feelings had just been hurt because someone “on the playground” had just pushed her. But she pretended not to care, didn’t let her lower lip quiver. “Pffft!” She made a sound as though she were not impressed, or the least bit jealous, that someone else had the same Magic as her.

“Well, guess what? I can do that better than you! Watch!” And then she closed her eyes to concentrate and tried to call the sparks to her fur again. It worked, but only a little, and didn’t light up as much as the goose’s had. The sparks flizzled out in a matter of seconds, and Flicker opened her eyes and tried not to whine (cry). She sat dejectedly, wishing then that she could go hide somewhere away from this stupid bird.

Blackberry laughed at the coyote's pathetic display. Just as she thought, she was obviously the better. "You think you're better? Then what the heck was that?" she scoffed. As if to prove her point, she called forward the sparks and this time they shone much brother then before. Please with her work, she stood up tall and gave a few flaps that maybe would have looked intimidating if she were an adult, but was a little more subpar from a hatchling. However, this thought did not come to her.

She was delighted when the dog sat down with dejection. "You really think you can pull off electric magic? Don't be so silly. You're nothing, you stupid rag dog. I'll bet you couldn't hurt an ant." Why she was being so mean, she didn't know, but it was extremely amusing waiting for the other gembound's reaction.

Flicker didn’t know she could feel so sad, or worthless. For someone so young, being bullied like this would take a toll on her self-esteem for a very long time, possibly forever. She cringed harder with every mean thing the goose said, whining obviously now, wanting to curl into a ball and never get up again. At some point, though, her resolve seemed to strengthen. She still didn’t feel great about herself, but now on top of that, she was angry. She didn’t care about the stupid goose anymore. She didn’t care what they said. She would teach them not to be so mean! She looked up at them with a hard glint in her eyes. “You shouldn’t say stuff like that!” she shouted, and then stood and tried to ram her shoulder into them, trying to knock them over…

As the coyote's shoulder came in contact with Blackberry, she opened her wings and tried to pummel the dog. However, her wings grazed harmlessly against her side and she was pushed back a little bit by his shove. Embarrassed, she gave her feathers a ruffle and pretended the pathetic display hadn't happened. Instead, she smirked at the coyote and raised her head. "I'll say whatever I want. Obviously you can't do anything about it. Why even try?" The dogs anger was amusing to her and she couldn't stop herself from goading her further.

Flicker growled in anger now, not understanding why anyone would be so mean. She hadn’t even done anything! All she’d said was asking if the goose was okay earlier! What, did other Gembounds not want help ever? “What is wrong with you?” she asked, a hint a desperation in her voice. “I asked if you were okay when you stumbled back and you got mad at me!” She gave the goose a once-over in the dark, took a deep breath, and came to a decision. “You know what? I don’t care anymore.” And then she turned her back on the bird and stalked away, huffing to herself.

Blackberry watched with amusement as the dog lost her temper with her before finally walking away. That was too fun. Why was it fun? Whatever, who cares. She sure showed her. She opened her wings and gave one last loud honk at her retreating figure before turning around and walking away herself. As she waddled on, she thought about how much fun she had had with the coyote and decided that there would be more of that in the future. Oh, she couldn't wait until she was better with magic - then she could really show the other gembounds who was boss!
