He was alone. Why was he alone? He didn't know. That was okay, being alone was nice sometimes. But he missed being around others. He wanted the company of the good and kind and he wanted to be able to trust those he was with. He had none of that yet and it made him sad.

But he did have the storm, the flashing of the lights, and his own lights that glowed so blue and pretty. As he stood there, thinking about his glowing, he unwillingly let magic flow into his feathers. A bright blue light began to shine across his body and wings. He raised his limbs to admire the colors, happy that he had managed to do it this time. He could see better with the light. The wolf, Kera, had spoken about turning the lights on. Perhaps he would join her. But if he wanted to join her, then he'd have to get good at making lights first!

Before setting off to make his own lights, Alan realized that he needed to decide how he was going to make lights. He stopped. He had his glow, but that was just for him. And that was only temporary. He needed something better, something that could make more then just his own lights. Maybe...a stone! Or a gem, like he had found before.

Happy that he had come to a decision, Alan then started looking for a stone, the glimmer in his feathers lighting the way. He pecked at rocks to break them apart to see underneath and he looked behind boulders, trying to catch a glimpse of a shiny, pretty gem. And, finally, he found one, nudged underneath a large rock. It was a bit difficult to dislodge, but the rock was crumply and a few hard pecks got it lose enough for him to pull free. It was nice and big and clear as water. He set it on the ground to admire it for a few minutes. This was going to be his first light!

So, how to make the gem a light? He hadn't thought about it before. Hadn't he made the gem for Kera a light? But he didn't remember quite how he did that. He remembered the magic flowing and then the gem lighting up. So he could try that again.

He brought forth the magic, but it only made his glowing feathers flicker brightly. No, he wasn't supposed to flow it through his feathers, he needed to direct it into the gem. He tried again, this time doing his best to steer the magic away from his body and instead into his talons, where the stone sat. At first, nothing happened, but then a soft glow began to form inside the crystal. In a moment, it was shining. Not as brightly as he had hoped, but still, it made light. Giddy with excitement, he looked for a place to place his new stone, so other gembounds could walk through the caves and be able to see their path. That is, until the lights turned back on.

As Alan looked around, he spotted a nice crack in the wall that could probably hold his light just fine. He fluttered to a nearby rock that was jutting out from the wall and stuck the gem inside the crack. When he got back on the ground, he admired his handiwork. Sure, it wasn't extremely bright, but it would do. The path was slightly brighter.

Happy that his work was finished, he turned and set off to find another gem. Where the light from his baubled gem grew too dim to see at all, he decided that he would set up another light. So it went again, he pecked on rocks and looked in holes in the walls, he searched too and fro, but couldn't seem to find a gem anywhere. Annoyed, he sat down with a huff. What would it take to find another gem like the one before?

Once again, there was no stone. Angry, Alan looked up at the flashing lights. Why couldn't the storm be bright enough to show him the glimmering of gems. As the lightning flashed again, he was no longer enamored as he was in the chrysalis. Instead, he was struck with a sudden idea. But first, he really needed another gem.

After furiously looking for yet another gem, Alan passed many that he deemed unworthy for the task at hand. Maybe for lighting the road, but no. He needed a good one. However, after his search turned up fruitless, he gave in and picked up a small, smoky crystal he had passed a few times. It wasn't too small, at least, and he hoped it would do. Then again, it wouldn't really work if it was a big crystal, after all. He wasn't strong enough to get a big crystal through the air.

Alan found a good place on top of a nice flat rock, facing the raging storm. He set down the smoky crystal in front of him, hoping that it would be enough. He wondered how the storm would react when he sent it flying its way.

He set a claw on the crystal and focused his magic into his legs. After a few moments of weak sputtering, the gray crystal came to life and shone brightly, despite its dull color. Happy, Alan sat his foot back on the ground and observed his crystal. How should he get it into the storm? If he swung his beak, he doubted he would be able to aim it very well. Same with tossing it while it was in his claws. But what other options were there?

But then he had an idea. If he set it in his wing and hit it towards the storm, maybe then it would launch far enough. Or tossed it in the air and hit it.

He decided on the former. If he tossed it wrong, his aim could go flying the wrong way. He picked up the stone in his beak and positioned himself so that he had a good stance. He looked up at the storm, the first spark of anxiety pulling at his heart. He looked carefully, pinpointing the spot on the storm that he would be aiming at. He opened his right wing and carefully dropped the stone into the feathers. Now he was happy that he had a small stone. Anything larger and he probably wouldn't be able to toss it.

He turned back to the storm and raised himself up. He pulled back his wing and thrust it forward with all his strength. The force of his throw sent him tumbling off the rock. Once he got his balance back, he snapped his head up to watch the gleaming gem disappear right into the heart of the storm.

As soon as the lit object was tossed high, sure enough an arcing bolt of pure magicka struck from the swirling vortex. The object is obliterated! Particles of baubled material scatter with the wind.

Alan's eyes shone as he watched the small glowing crystal be rent apart within the storm, the tiny shards it left behind scattering across the cave. In awe, he watched as one such shard fell at his feet. He leaned down and softy pecked at it. It was sizzling with magic and it seemed that this one shard was brighter then it had been before. Pleased, he picked up the shard and fitted it within his thick, fluffy feathers. Later, he would have to find a way to carry it better. For now, however, just knowing that he had it was awesome enough.

He was getting tired. All the light making and magic working had taken its toll. He was exhausted and needed to find a place to rest. He turned towards the rock wall and began to walk along the side, trying to find a good place to make a nest.
