Excitement bubbled in Blackberry as her jaws closed down on his neck. However, he managed to pull his head away before she could get a proper bite to his throat. However, she did manage to tear some fur and skin anyways on his way out. Without a moment's thought, she jumped at him, trying to kick him in the head, using her wings as a boost.

Rift cringed with pain as skin and fur tore away with the goose's beak. He felt wetness on his skin and knew that the goose had managed to draw blood. With a low growl, he turned to confront her again, only to see her foot a second before it crashed into the side of his head. He stumbled away, reeling, lights flashing in his eyes. He shook himself to clear it before magic started pouring from his leaf-wrapped ear. He needed to stop this goose, this was getting out of hand. He placed a paw on the tree nearby, willing the vines to wrap themselves around the goose.

However, just as the magic felt like it was working, a sudden jolt went through his body and into the tree. A moment later, the branch holding the vines broke off. With a cry, he tried to get away, but he tripped and flopped on his side. A second later, the branch crashed down, knocking at the breath from his stomach and trapping him on the ground.

Blackberry stepped back, hesitating on the next attack, as the cougar placed a paw on the tree. What on earth was he doing. But then the branch crashed down and she burst into laughter. The idiot had tried to use magic and had utterly failed. Fool. She spent another second laughing, before leaping forward again, this time noticing the green ear. His gem. She would aim for that.

However, just as she was about to take off, her foot snagged on a jutting roof and she fell forward, right on her stomach, her beak inches away from the cat's face.

Rift watched with shock as the goose fell along with him. Whatever had just happend with the two of them, he had no idea. However, the vines were still there, this time right in front of him. He tried again, this time tapping his delicate gem against the tree, directly from his magic, cringing at the loud sound it made.

Blackberry, realizing the position she was in, hissed loudly and leaped up, embarrassed to have caught herself like that. She didn't know why he wasn't doing anything, but she wasn't going to follow suite. She raised her foot to try to bring it smashing down on his ear.

Disappointed that it had not worked again, Rift looked up at Blackberry, realizing that he was still trapped. He desperately tried to get lose, terrified when he saw the goose's foot lift. He could see her eyes - she was aiming for his ear.

No! A surge of energy shot through him and he threw himself out from under the branch just in time. He rolled away, but then instantly leaped to his feet, anger raging through him like fire. He could not ask his friends to help him now; this was his battle and he would teach that goose a lesson. With teeth flashing, he leaped forward, aiming for the neck, just as the goose had before.

Blackberry cringed as her foot came down, not on cat, but on solid wood. Twice, she had done this. No more. She turned towards where the cougar had staggered away and was surprised to see him so close again. Within a second, his teeth were around her neck. With a squawk, she managed to avoid getting grabbed, but she felt blood spilling from the wound. It wasn't too bad, but she couldn't get hit like that again. She raised a wing and heaved it towards the cat's left side, hoping that she might catch his ear in the process.

Rift couldn't manage to keep a firm grip on the goose and she managed to struggle away before he could hold on tight. And before he could do anything else, the glowing red wing was smashing into the side of his head. He reeled away, his ear ringing and his head spinning. It hadn't hit the gem, but she had gotten a good clout. In retaliation, he lashed forward with sharp claws.

Disappointed that she had missed his gem yet again, Blackberry prepared herself for a counter attack. As the cougar swiped forward, she tried to step back, but his claws still caught her face and she honked with pain as blood splashed over her beak. Hissing, she leaped forward, her beak open and serrated tongue ready to cut once she had gotten hold.

When the goose came at him again, he couldn't but be shocked and disgusted at the goose's terrifying tongue. He did not want that to touch him. He tried to avoid, but he still caught the goose bite, cringing as he felt a trickle of blood run down his face. However, he was now faced with the goose's wing. Without really thinking about it, he lunged for it, intending on biting down.
