Rift gaped at the goose as she listed off names. The wolf. He knew a wolf. "Kera?" And a snake. He knew a snake. "Winter?!" If Blackberry had fought Winter and had come out unharmed from the snake's venom, then...was Winter...

No, Winter was fine! Guilt weighed him down as he thought about their encounter and his reaction to her. He was disgusted with himself, disgusted with how he had treated the gentle cobra. But Kera, perhaps that's why she hated birds so much. And her broken teeth and limp. Were those all from Blackberry? What had happened to them?

He snarled, mostly out of fear, as the goose began to loose control. It would have been quite funny if she hadn't just been trying to kill him. So it wasn't and when she took off, he flinched, preparing himself for another fight. However, she was gone, taken off and disappearing over the trees. Her glowing wings sputtered out and she was no more.

Staring at where she had disappeared, the adrenaline in his body suddenly ran dry. All the pain of his wounds came rushing to him. He looked down and noticed the small pool of blood that had formed and the red-dyed fur on his neck. The ringing intensified and his breath sped up at the sight of so much blood. He had to do something about this...but what? What could he do?

As if in answer, his gem shivered and some friends popped out of the ground. They were small, but they definitely looked useful. He immediately scooped up as much of them as he could, murmuring a quick thank you and started pressing the leaves on his throat. There was a vine nearby that he used to wrap them in place. Shivering at the feeling of having a collar, he tried to ignore it as he laid down, his head pounding. He curled himself into a ball beneath the roots and tried to push away the feeling of betrayal. His friends had only come when the fight was over. Was the goose right? Were the plants not his friends after all?

These thoughts plagued him, bringing tears to his eyes and shivers to his skin before he drifted off into an uneasy sleep.
