Mongo was itchy.

Not physically, as in he needed a good scratch. But inside of him. While he liked Polaris, and had lived there since his Hatching, something was calling to him. Polaris was too occupied, there were too many potential Gembound. That wasn't a bad thing, of course not, but he desperately needed somewhere of his own. At least, somewhere less populated.

So he'd followed the scent of plants. All of the cave system he'd seen so far was covered in plant life. But this earth smelled much stronger, drawing him. He had followed it through several tunnels, all the way from Polaris. And now he found himself entering another room. This one practically sang with plants, moss bouncing under his paws. But the best part, at least to the Fossa, were the trees. They reached far overhead, and his claws itched to climb, and climb, and climb.

So he did. Taking a flying leap, he climbed the tree as though he were going for a casual stroll, finding it came to him naturally. Small claws easily sought out the slightest cracks in the bark, allowing him to climb up, and up, and up.

And then he found the hole.

At first, he'd simply thought it was little more than a knot in the trunk. But, as he began to pass it, he became aware of a small opening. At first, he'd simply sniffed, before putting his head inside. It proved to lead to a large hole in the trunk, big enough for five or six of him. He made an excited chattering sound, and slipped inside. His, this was his!

He took some time to mark the inside of the tree, claiming it as his. This was his, and so was this, and this! But, he quickly came to realize that the flooring of the 'den' wasn't terribly soft, being nothing more than wood. So, remembering the moss on the ground, he jetted out from the hole, climbing down the tree with the ease of a squirrel.

Jumping the last few tail lengths, he began to gather moss in his mouth, picking the softest of it to take home.

The bat watched the creature with interest. She was curious about everything, which had brought her to the forest that had smelled so nice. She enjoyed hanging from the trees, which is what she was doing now, and she liked the smell of the plants. Rusty wasn't a fan, saying that it would be too easy to burn down and they'd get in danger and Salvation was scared of the height. Crack, of course, hadn't said anything and they couldn't distinguish any particular emotion, besides that of annoyed impatience. What it was impatient about, they did not know and they didn't really put too much thought into it.

However, as the creature below turned its back on them, there was a surge from the dark creature and its voice whispered in their mind. "It is time, this is a good target. Come, sharers of my body, we will shed some blood today!"

"What?!" Caliante breathed as she was shoved back with an incredible force. There were protests from Salvation and Rusty, but they couldn't take control. Crack was too strong.

It opened its wings, aiming for the creature, and fluttered down, its movements strong and graceful, aiming for its shoulder with teeth bared.

Mongo was distracted.

He'd found a rather nice patch of moss, nice and soft, giving pleasantly under his paws.

So he had little warning other than a soft cracking sound, before the bat was upon him. His head snapped up, and he squeaked, attempting to leap back. Unfortunately for him, he wasn't quite fast enough, and the bat slammed into him, teeth sinking into his right shoulder. He squealed, tumbling across the ground, losing his grip on the moss.

"What's your problem!?" he snarled, lashing out and attempting to sink his teeth into the bat's torso.

Crack savored the taste of the creature's blood in its mouth. It was tangy and salty and his fury fueled him like wood on a fire.

What are you doing?! Stop!

It shrugged off her attack against its mind and turned his attention back to its prey. As they lunged forward to try and bite, it opened its mouth to sent a blast of superheated air in their direction.

"Ah!"

Mongo cried out in pain, tensing his jaw and biting in deeper, before releasing the bat's torso. He recoiled with a whine of pain, baring his fangs, and had little change to protect himself as the bat suddenly blew inhumanely hot air into his face.

The Fossa squealed, feeling his skin blister under the heat of the attack. He thrashed, and lunged forward, aiming to sink his fangs into the bat's throat.

Crack gave a small, cold smile as the heat burned the thing's face. Good, it was in pain. The squeal he gave off was like music to its ears, the anger surging in his pelt a soothing aura. It sighed, finally feeling the tightness within itself loosening just a little bit. However, it didn't have time to relish in this new feeling, as the enemy was lunging again. It opened its wings to take off into the sky, avoiding its attack. It was only just fast enough and it felt the air as the creature's jaws snapped shut just below its feet.

Notes: just as a side note, I was using heatwave as a defense to try and stop mongo from hitting umbra. I never said that they actually got bit

Mongo snarled, thrashing and reaching up to rub at his face with his paws. That hurt so badly! But it only served to enrage him further, hair raising along his scruff and spine. How dare the bat hurt him?!

The Fussa growled furiously as the bat took off, avoiding his snapping fangs. So it thought it could run, did it? The Gemling kicked off the ground, stretching up and attempting to snap his fangs shut on the bat.

Crack was fluttering just above the head of the creature and gave them an arrogant smirk as they growled up at it. The voices were screaming in its head. CRACK STOP! Idiot, your going to get us killed! Why are you doing this?! It narrowed its eyes and hissed low.

"I'm doing what I was born to do." It's voice was barely a whisper and dripped with darkness and ice. The voices shut up instantly, falling back to terrified silence.

When the creature jumped up to latch onto its legs, it opened its mouth to blast it back again, heat welling in its throat until it was expelling it out straight into the creature's face again

Mongo snarled like a beast possessed, fangs snapping short only centimeters beneath the bat's feet. His Gem was glistening madly, and his single eye was hazed with rage. He made a sound that wasn't quite natural as he surged upwards, desperately trying to sink his fangs into him.

However, at the bat's words, he couldn't help but to shiver, a chill running down his spine. He didn't know what the bat meant, or who it was talking to, but he knew he didn't like it one bit. "Get down here!" he boomed, only to scream in agony as hot air blistered his face once more.

He shook his head and, blinded with rage in pain, he surged upwards again, attempting to pull it down.

The sound of the creature screaming was almost music to Crack's ears. The high pitched yowl of terror and pain sent a shiver down its back. The fur on its neck bristled with empty happiness. The voices inside shivered as well, but with fear and dread. Crack chuckled softly. "Your magic is useful, Rusty. Thank you."

There was a low growl from the lizard-voice. Stop using it, Crack. It's my magic! It's not for you to do whatever sick thing your planning! Crack didn't respond, but shoved them aside. It didn't need to concern itself with whatever that idiot was thinking. It was better then them. They didn't understand him. But he would make them understand.

He glared gleefully at the creature bellow. "Now why would I go down there when I can hurt you from up here?" Its voice was loud, but dark and soft and smooth. It took a deep breath and exhaled another blast of air, much to Rusty's protest.
