Obstacle Course

Rules:

• In this competition you must race through Polaris and go over the selected course to reach the end!


• Do not use magic or physical combat to trip up or otherwise impede your opponents, the judges will be watching closely and if they spy your character cheating you will be disqualified.


• Characters will also be disqualified if they use magic to help them through the course! You may only use "other" roll attempts to get your through each leg of the race!


• There will be five sections of the race! You must use your roll attempts to get through each one! To reach the next section you must roll a minimum of a barely successful attempt or you may not advance.


• Winners will be decided based on who gets through the course first! In the event of a tie (characters reaching the end at the same time) then whoever has rolled the highest number cumulatively will win.


• Please allow a judge to post to this thread first to begin the event! Then, you all may have at it! But please, to make it fair, allow everyone entered in the competition to at least have a post once before you post again. If three days has passed and one of the other competitors has not responded to their leg of the race then you may post again on the fourth day.


• As with the other event threads spectators are allowed and there will be no set posting order for spectators.

Winter slid her way up the side of a rock formation that stood over the beginning of the race. A part of her wished that she had joined the festivities, but something in her told her that she would do better at this. Fighting and magic weren't her thing and running through an obstacle course also didn't sound too fun. So she'd signed up to judge instead.

Once she had reached the top, she looked down at all the assembled gembounds. She didn't recognize any of them, but she was surprised at the variety of the competitors. Everything from a tiny bird to a strange bird thing and even a dragon! This would be interesting and fun to watch.

She cleared her voice and raised herself up, trying her best to project her small voice as loud as possible. "WELCOME TO THE OLYMPIC'S OBSTACLE COURSE!!" While she felt like she was screaming, it was about as loud as a shout and was just loud enough for the assembled gems to hear.

"I'M WINTER, ONE OF YOUR JUDGES! TODAY YOU'LL BE GOING THROUGH A FIVE COURSE RACE THROUGH POLARIS!! YOU WILL START WITH HURDLES GOING TOWARDS THE SPIRE!! IF YOU HAVE WINGS, YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO USE THEM IN THIS PART!! FOR OUR SMALLER CRITTERS, THERE'S HOLES AND THINGS IN THE BOARDS THAT YOU CAN LEAP THROUGH INSTEAD!! THE SECOND PART WILL BE TWO LAPS AROUND THE SPIRE!! THE THIRD PART WILL TAKE YOU TO A LARGE PILE OF DEBRIS!! YOU MUST FIND A STONE MARKED RED!! FOR THE FOURTH PART, YOU MUST TAKE A STICK AND PUT IT IN THE GROUND NEXT TO THE SPIRE SO THAT ITS STICKING UP LIKE A POLE!! FOR THE FIFTH AND FINAL PART, ITS A DEAD SPRINT BACK TO THE STARTING POINT WITH YOUR ROCK!! WHOEVER GETS BACK FIRST IS THE WINNER!! NO ATTEMPTS AT FOUL PLAY WILL BE ALLOWED!! YOU CANNOT TRIP YOUR OPPONENT WITH ATTACKS OR MAGIC!! WE WILL BE WATCHING CAREFULLY!! PLAY FAIR AND RUN HARD!!"

She took a gasping breath as she finished her speech and took a second to get her voice back, painfully aware of the many gembounds' eyes right on her. "IF EVERYONE IS READY, WE WILL BEGIN!! ON YOUR MARKS...GET SET...

GO!!"

Notes:

Asimona stepped up to the line drawn into the earth where she had been instructed to stand. The other participants were crowding in and she was starting to feel a little claustrophobic. Her spine was tingling, from what she didn't know, but she just wanted to get the race going.

She looked up with surprise as a small snake made its way to the top of a rock. Was that the judge? Asimona stood up taller and her tail twitched with amusement as she began to yell. She was certainly trying her best. She lined up with the others and, as the snake yelled "Go", she shot off.

She raced towards the hurdles in her path to the Spire and leaped over most of them with ease. There were a few that she barely made it over and had to slow down for, but all in all, she made it over all of them.

"Find the one who'll guide you."
To the limits of your choice.

Sebastian was so excited.

He had been hesitant about entering the Wrestling, yes. But an obstacle course? That, he could do for sure! He loved to stretch his legs and run around, so why not?

He found himself waiting at the starting line, looking at his competition. There were a fair few Gembounds there, of all shapes and sizes. Even a Dragon! Holy Hell! And wait, was that Bremen?

His attention was drawn as a voice called out, and he could see a small snake struggling to project their voice. He stood, muscles tensing as they began to count down, before launching himself forward at the sound of a loud GO.

The Puma took off at full speed, racing towards the hurdles at the heels of the Dragon. He leaped the hurdles, feeling some of them scrape his stomach, and had to find his stride again a handful of times. Thankfully, however, he made it over successfully.

She didn't feel well.

The filly wanted nothing more than to lay down and rest; her joints hurt, and she felt exhausted. But she'd already signed up for this, and she couldn't back out.

She listened, paying little attention to the snake's speech, before perking up as she heard a loud GO! The filly took off at an awkward canter, at the heels of a few other Gembounds, barely making some of the jumps, feeling them scrape her barrel. Thankfully, nothing much happened, and she was able to keep her hooves under her.

This was going to be fun!

The Fossa cub bounced from paw to paw as he waited, having gotten there rather early. Thankfully, Gembounds were finally beginning to show up, and he felt rather small. There was even a dragon! But he didn't let himself feel discouraged; he was Mongo, and he didn't get discouraged!

He fought down the urge to laugh as a snake began to speak, but hurried into a ready position, tail lashing excitedly. He bounced slightly to warm up his joints, crouching down as they began to count down.

And GO! And he was off. He wormed his way through the larger Gembounds legs, having to put in a bit more 'oomph' to his jumps to clear the hurdles. Thankfully, somehow, he managed to do it without falling flat on his face.

Apple was so excited! She stood there, among the gembounds that were much, much bigger then her, hopping with excitement, her wings fluttering. She saw Gypsy in the throng and shot over to her side. "Hi! You decided to join the obstacle course! I'm glad!" She smiled at her friend mischievously. "You better watch out, I'm gonna beat you!"

She turned her attention to the snake sitting at the top of the rock. For a moment, a flash of uncharacteristic fear shot through her, but it was gone in the instant the snake started talking. Or, well, yelling? It was so funny, watching her try to get her voice loud enough that she let out a loud twitter of laughter. "Oh my gosh, she's so cute!"

But now she needed to focus. She got to her position and tried to calm herself. She needed to save that energy for the race! She took a deep breath as the countdown started and then, as she heard the go!, she raced off.

Her tiny feet pattered against the ground as she sped towards the first hurdle. She spotted the hole in the wood and dived towards it, clearing it easily. But the second one, she didn't see it in time as she leaped forward at the last minute, she didn't time it too great. Her beak smacked against the wood and she fell back with a surprised squeal.

As she leaped to her feet again, she realized that she had fallen behind. It's okay! You can do this!"

SPLOTCH

This was gonna be fun fun fun fun!

Splotch bounced back and forth, struggling to keep herself in place. Her tail was flying so fast she looked like she might just take off with one of her jumps. Thankfully, that wasn't physically possible, or else she just might have done it.

A snake took the helm, and the Wild Dog woofed excitedly. 'Let's go let's go let's go LET'S GO!'
Thankfully, she kept her speech short and sweet, and soon the Wild Dog was running. Unfortunately, she didn't even make it over the first hurdle before stumbling, having not stretched her legs far enough.

"I'm speaking..."
'I'm thinking...'

Gypsy trembled in excitement as a white snake announced the start of the event. She had signed up because Apple had, and she waved at the other bird when she spotted her. The magpie too, looked extremely excited as she shot over to her side in a blur. "Hi! You decided to join the obstacle course! I'm glad!" There was a mischievous twinkle in Apple's eyes. "You better watch out, I'm gonna beat you!" Gypsy grinned right back at her. “Of course I joined! I didn’t want to miss out on all the fun! And you’ll find I'm a hard opponent to beat!” Time seemed to be flowing at about ten times the normal rate. Somehow, the snake was soon screaming for the race to begin. “ON YOUR MARKS...GET SET... GO!!" The rush of the other, bigger creatures trying to have a good start was overwhelming and Gypsy almost tripped over - twice - to make sure she wasn’t trampled on in the rushing crowd. Maybe this was a bad idea… she found herself thinking, before she shook herself out of that dismal void. Nope, she had to focus. Most of the animals were already ahead of her. With a grimace, she kept her talons moving as quickly as possible. At least other birds like her couldn’t fly in this race. It was against the rules. That was a relief, since Gypsy still couldn’t fly properly yet. At least she still had a chance to beat Apple. The first obstacles of the race - a set of hurdles - were coming up. They were three feet high and looked ominous as she rushed towards them. She gulped. Okay, steady now. She eyed the holes designed for small creatures like her to fit through. There, she just had to go through there…! Even with all the holes, it was hard for the tiny avian to reach their height. Still, she somehow managed, and she huffed with pride as she cleared the hurdles. "Gypsy speaks" 'Gypsy thinks'

As the white cobra shouted the event's rules to the competitors, Aztec's gem pulsed hard with in his chest. He felt a chill creep up his spine as nerves bristled his fur. He was trembling. Aztec could barely contain his excitement. Briefly, he glance around. The other racers pressed against each other at the starting line. All creatures of different shapes and sizes presented themselves. It was hard to miss the dragon, and he spotted a black feline like himself. At one point he thought he spied a little humming bird. Aztec cut his eyes to the hurdles ahead and flexed his claws.

Calm down Aztec, He told himself. Its just a race.

After a pause to catch her breath, the cobra gave the announcement.

"ON YOUR MARKS... GET SET..."

Aztec crouched to ground and strained in anticipation, feeling his stomach leap into his throat.

He clutched the dirt. But want to win!

"GO!!"

Aztec flew forward, his mind whirling. The other competitors, even the cheering, faded from existence. His eyes were locked on the hurdles. He had to make them! The came up so fast Aztec hesitated before jumping. He dug his claws in the wood as he landed on it, and then leaped down. The extra actions not doubt delayed him, and Aztec silently cursed himself for it.

Next up was the spire, crackling blue with power, and he bounded full speed towards it.
