Blackberry's heart missed a beat when the snake struck her way, but only a second later, she was laughing again. She had missed. But she couldn't sit back and revel in it, she didn't want to give the cobra another chance to bite her. So she lunged forward with her teeth and stomach claws open, ready to clamp down on the snake and hold her steady.

Winter saw the bird coming, as if in slow motion. Her eyes widened with fear and her heart raced and all instinct took over. With a huge tug, she snatched her body out from under the goose and shot away, faster then she ever had before. She was well clear of the goose by the time she arrived at the point she had been seconds before and had enough time to turn around, spitting furiously. There was no running away. She didn't want to kill her, or even bite her, but she had to do what she could to keep herself alive.

Blackberry found herself facing empty ground and her claws closed around nothing but air. She slammed into the rock, her beak smashing into solid stone. For a moment, she was stunned, but then she scrambled to her feet, facing the snake again. She smirked, her eyes bright and wild. "Clever snake! But don't worry, I'll get you!" She was about to jump forward again to continue her attack, but her leg got stuck on a rock and she ended up stumbling forwards, losing her chance to attack again.

This was her chance! Winter slid forward fast and lunged towards the stumbling goose, intent on getting in a good strike, but she hadn't had much opportunity to practice her aiming skills and she flashed past. Terrified, knowing that she was vulnerable here, she backed off quickly and returned to hissing from a short distance away.

She could tell, this time, that there was no way the snake would get her. She was too far away and she would have enough time to react. However, the snake missed anyways, so her leap to the side was unneeded. However, she found herself in a strange position. The snake had backed off now and she would have to run up to her to attack. If she was sane, she would have known this was a bad idea, but she was so lost in the blood and heat of battle that she recklessly stormed forward. She had left way too much time and gave Winter plenty of time to do her own attack

Winter watched carefully as the goose ran forward. She had plenty of time to make her own move and, once the goose was where she wanted to be, she struck. However, fear overtook her as images passed through her head. Images of their last fight, when she had struck the goose with a venomous blow. The pain and the screaming. Her face clenched and her venom did not come out of fear and anticipation.

Blackberry didn't even realize the snake was attacking her until she felt teeth sink into her leg. She screamed in both pain and fear and struck down with her beak instinctively, trying to get the snake to get off of her, for fear of the venom. However, a second later, there was no intense pain coming from the wound and she knew it had been dry. But she couldn't let another slip up like that happen again.

Winter's teeth sunk into the goose's thin leg and she thought she was going to be sick. She wanted to get the venom in, because then, perhaps, the goose would be scared off. However, she couldn't for the life of her, do it. The goose's beak, however, stabbed into her a moment later. It didn't stab directly into her body, but rather slashed along her side. However, it was enough to get her to let go and cry out. Terrified that she could get held down again, however, she struck again, even though her venom refused to come.

Blackberry wondered, as the snake's teeth sunk into her leg again, if she even had venom anymore or if it even worked. She surely would have injected it by now. However, she didn't put too much thought into it as she tasted the blood that was on her beak from the attack. It was cold, yet warm, slightly salty, but sweet at the same time. It was wonderful.

She cried out with pleasure at the taste of the snake's blood, opening her wings with triumph. She wanted more! She wanted to taste more! And now she could, because the snake had no venom! She leaned down with her beak and snatch the snake up with her mouth, and to sink her fangs into their body to taste her blood once again.

Winter was shaking now, shaking with the effort of trying to go against her body's desire not to inject the venom into her victim. She couldn't do it. The kindness she had picked up from Kielo, the hatred for herself and for the weapon she carried all counteracted her efforts. But now, it was too late. The goose was coming down again and she couldn't get the venom into her system.

She screamed as the goose's fangs sunk into her side and she was ripped away from her leg. She tried desperately to strike out at anything, but her wild attacks hit nothing. Unable to do anything else, she went limp in the goose's beak.
