SECRETIVE | ESOTERIC | RESILIENT
Long ago were the Children of Rot formed, and long ago they drifted apart. With recent developments in Origin Cave, Dragon will be seeking those perhaps interested in once again trying to uncover the cave's secrets--quietly--and to ensure the survival of all.
"They are hiding something. They are hiding something from us all. We must find it... and find it quietly. We will rise from the rot of those who have fallen in the past, from the bones in Canis and the swamps of Cetus, and we will uncover the truth--and protect ourselves from succumbing to their fate."
Purpose
The purpose of the Children of Rot is to uncover all of the secrets of Origin Cave--without the Elder denizens (such as Senka, Astrea and Nemean) discovering our membership and purpose. Members are those who have come to realize that mass death has befallen the cave in the past--as evidenced by its ancient, abandoned structures and fortresses of bones--and that in order to avoid the same fate, we must find out what happened.
Specific Goals
Survival above all else.
1. To protect and to serve Aquarian in the Heart of Cetus. He has sworn to ensure our survival, so long as we do this.
2. To seek the truths of the caves: to listen for the memories of stone, to look for the whispers in the arcane, to seek knowledge in the rot of the fungus. To catalogue the carvings on the walls, and to speak to those willing to impart information.
3. To avoid detection by the Elders of the cave, for they admit that they hide things from us, and should they discover our goals, they may see us as a threat and--perhaps against their own desires--be forced to eradicate us.
4. To seek others to join our cause, to spread our goals and knowledge quietly to other Greater Gembound, and to create a web of information and resources to utilize.
Atmosphere & Changes
The original
Children of Rot espoused survival as a near-godlike goal, a single step on the ladder to
becoming like gods. The atmosphere was brutal and mysterious. Dragon has aged and matured, and the goal of Rot will have changed with him: a secretive, esoteric atmosphere, with its members perhaps disguising our activities as similarly occultishly cultish and strange, when in truth our new goals are efficiently logical in nature. Kindness and morality will still take a back seat to survival, but the Children will not aim to be needlessly hostile or merciless--though individual members might, of course, turn out to be.
Territory
The group will be re-established and reside in Cetus.
Ranks
The Seekers / The Eyes will look for knowledge wherever they can. Utilizing their sharp minds, keen senses, and spells such as Necrophagy, Stone Memory, Hindsight and Mind Reader, they will gather information on the cave's past--and present--wherever they can.
The Guardians / The Claw are those with the will to survive, and the interest in the goals of Children of Rot, but who work perhaps on brute force rather than intellect and cunning. These will serve as bodyguards and enforcers for the Seekers of The Eyes.
The Speakers / The Maw are those who focus primarily on recruiting others to our cause. They will whisper words into the ears of those who will listen, and show the truth to those who do not yet know.
Other Groups & Plot
The Children of Rot will aim to be neutral with other groups, though independent. Decent relations are better for survival than war is, as is the ability to call on outside aid. CoR will also aim to take part in Quest threads, so as to better uncover the secrets of Origin Cave. Dragon will gladly send individual members on specific missions, too--to scout a particular area, check certain carvings, Hindsight an important area, and so forth--if you want additional plotting.
Because of our goals, we may wind up at odds with NPCs such as Senka and her mysterious master, or any groups that have chosen to follow them, if our own information somehow gets out.

Recruitment & Joining
If you have a character who has an interest in uncovering the cave's secrets, ensuring their own survival, or both, you could happen upon Dragon or any other member, once formed, and discuss.
