They were bored. The young Gembound, who, as of yet, was still unnamed, was completely, utterly, and totally bored, no exception. They had satiated their hunger and thirst a few hours ago, and had flown to the ridges. However, the sheer humidity of the place made flying uncomfortable for them, meaning that they preferred not to practice flying in this room. The novetly of a new location had quickly worn off, leaving the cockatiel with nothing to do.

With a sudden flash of inspiration, they reached for the magic stored on the side of their neck, trying to produce the humming sound that they had done earlier with Envy. They got a grasp on it, coaxing the magic out, but it slipped from their “grip”, leaving the magic to fizzle out. The Gembound pouted. As the magic faded out, they noticed a soft azure glow out of the corner of their eye. They wondered what the glow was coming from, and flew down from the slippery cliffs of rock that they had been perched on to get a look at their reflection in the water.

The young cockatiel turned their head to examine their neck, where they assumed the blue light had come from. There, embedded in it, was a gemstone- like the crystals in Orion, but clear. As they continued to tilt their head this way and that to look closer, they thought they saw something through it. Indeed, there was a view of what they could only conclude was their throat. It bobbed slowly up and down, and it took a moment for them to realize that what they were seeing was, indeed, what they breathed through. They shuddered. That was definitely interesting, but a bit gross. They didn’t like seeing what should realistically be inside and unseen.

After a few moments more of examining the newly discovered gemstone, they turned their attention away from it, flying up to the ridges, cringing internally at the feeling of humid air on their wings. They sat down on the wet rocks again, looking up and attempting to think of something to do. Their mind came up blank. Leaning back, they closed their eyes, sighing before idly singing a few notes.

..hey, that was actually pretty nice sounding. Experimentally, they sang a few more notes, before going into a high trill. They started to launch into an actual melody now, whole-heartedly enjoying themselves. They paused their song for a moment, getting an idea. If they combined their hum magic with the song, it would give it more sound and make it sound better! She reached to her magic, hoping it wouldn’t fizzle out like last time.

The sound bubbled up, becoming a low, soft bass. They hummed along with it for a moment, before continuing her song. They smiled, slipping into thoughts completely unrelated to what she was currently doing. Everyone they had met so far went by special words called names. Names were important because it made it easy to know if somebody was talking to you, or if you wanted to address someone else. Well- their magic faded away as they slowly lost concentration on it, and they began singing what they already had made up- they needed a name, too, didn’t they?

Heart-Song sounded like a good name. Song because they liked singing, and heart because of Pippy's nickname for them. It just felt right. So. Heart-Song it was. They smiled, ruffling their wings and beginning to sing again, this time a new birdsong.

@Aegir Feel free to interact, the character development is over!

Oliver had once told Aegir about the water in the caves. He had said that Pisces was filled with water and that Aegir would like it. And he was very much correct. As Aegir walked through the cave, filled with the roaring of waterfalls and the bubbling of rivers, he felt wonder and love soaking into his pelt. He ignored the chill that was biting at his coat, still thing from youth.

This time, as he traveled from Eridanus, he forced himself to slow down to allow himself ample time to rest and hunt and drink so he was nothing close to tired this time as he explored the new cave. And it was a good thing too - he wanted to see everything here.

What was there to do first? He could dip into the water and simply listen or he could toss stone or water into it. But what questions did he have right now? The answer was none - he simply wanted to see. The voices all around him were intoxicating though, as if every pool of water begged him to come listen. But he ignored them. There would be time for meditating later.

A sound unlike that of waterfalls and rivers caught his ear. A light singing noise, coming from the ridges along the wall. Curious, he made his way over, knowing that this was not the water calling to him, but something else. Perhaps another creature like him.

As he got closer, he looked up and, after a moment of looking, he spotted the little bird resting on a rock. He didn't know if it was a lesser or greater gembound, but he decided that he would treat it as if it were as intelligent as him. After all, he had made the mistake before, he'd rather not make it again.

"You make a sound. What is the sound and how? It is pretty and makes Aegir happy." This was his best attempt at a compliment, his sentances still fractured by youth and social awkwardness. But he saw nothing wrong with what he said, of course, as he never did.

My thoughts are swirling...

Heart-Song turned at the sound of another voice, their song slowly fading away as they spread their wings and glided down to the bear cub's level. At their small size of 6 inches, they were probably much smaller than him, but they held no fear in their tone as they replied. "That was singing! I made it with my voice." They fluttered their wings in excitement. "Thank you. Would you like to hear some more?" They were overjoyed at the compliment. They were appreciated for something they loved to do, and that made their heart soar.

Another reason why the name fit, they supposed, but also a reason to keep singing. Heart-Song realized that they wanted, more than anything to spread their song and let more Gembounds hear it. But for now, they were happy with just singing for an audience of one.

For a moment, Aegir feared that he had scared the bird or that it was a lesser that had decided to fly away. But when it swooped down to his level and landed in front of him, he was much happier and gave the bird a smile. "Singing? A voice can sing. Can all voices sing? Or just some? But singing is pretty. Aegir would love to hear some more!"

Among the water and the waterfalls, the bubbling of the river, a bird song was the only thing to make this room even more beautiful. He sat down and waited for the little bird to start singing again.

Heart-Song thought for a moment. "Hmm.. I dunno if all voices can sing. I never thought about it." They could always ask others if they could sing and tell Aegir about the results. That was later, though. Right now, he had asked them to continue singing, and continue singing they would! They took a deep breath, before beginning to sing again. Sweet birdsong filled Pisces.

Aegir smiled as the young bird began to sing again. He closed his eyes and smiled, getting lost, for a moment, in everything that was around him. It was a beautiful cave, he knew that. So many sounds and smells around him, invading his entire being with its sweetness. The chirping sound of the bird only amplified his gentle joy and he thought, just for a moment, that he never wanted to leave this now.

After a few moments, he instinctively began humming as well, a tune not too different from the bird's. Aegir's deep base voice and Heart-Song's chirping soprano were two vastly different sounds that actually did not sound bad together. In fact, one could say it was a mildly pleasant duet, although Aegir did not sing too loud in case the bird wanted the spotlight to itself.

Once the song was over, he blinked open his eyes and suddenly realized that he may have insulted the bird by singing with it. "Aegir is sorry, Aegir could not help himself. This bird has a lovely voice."

Heart-Song allowed themselves to get lost in the duet as well, beginning to bob their head from side to side. They ended the song with one final trill, fluttering their wings and wagging their tail feathers appreciatively. "No need to apologize! That was amazing! Your voice is just as good as mine."

Heart-Song's thoughts returned to what they were doing earlier, summoning a deep base sound using their hum magic. The bear's deep voice was a lot like that, except more real and living, dueting with their birdsong far better than their simple hum ever could. They decided to change the topic of conversation- after all, they knew all about what they were good at, but they wanted to know what the bear could do. "What do you do around the caves?"

Aegir was relieved to hear that the bird wasn't mad at him. Quite the contrary, actually, they seemed to enjoy his voice! So that was singing, was it? He wondered if the water sung and, after consideration, he was certain that it did. The rushing of the water and the pounding of the falls wasn't a voice, it was a song. A melody of water and purity.

He turned his attention back to the bird, satisfied with his revelation and thought for a moment. "What does Aegir do? Hm. Aegir travels to see the waters. Aegir speaks to the water and the water speaks back. Aegir meets and greets and learns. This is what Aegir does." There certainly wasn't much else, was there? Aegir had been through very little in his short life time and he hoped there would be more to come. Make the list a little bit longer.

Heart-Song visibly straightened up at this, excited at the notion that water could speak. They voiced as much. "Water speaks to you? That's neat! All that ever speaks to me is other Gembounds.. which is still a lot of the caves.. but water's even more of the caves! You could learn so much from water, because it's been everywhere!"

They broke out into a large smile, absorbed in this new idea. "What do you learn from the water?"
