Blackberry approved of Mulberry's eagerness to come at her and fight and she allowed the hyena pup to bowl her over. Not that she probably would have had an easy time getting away - her daughter was fast. She wondered if she would be able to keep up.

No, of course she would keep up. She was Blackberry! She would never be bested by her own children! But she had to make it fair, at least. But, then again, the world wasn't fair. No enemy was going to be fair. Might as well toughen them up.

As Mulberry rammed into her, Blackberry raised a talon to smash down on her head, hopefully not drawing blood, but perhaps at least shoving her face down and making her lose balance. She fell onto the ground with a thump, momentarily stunned.

Elderberry twisted his head around to watch his sibling's attack as they responded to the opening that was presented to them. Elderberry couldn't fault that; he could only defend, and try to do better next time. He stumbled to the side as Huckleberry pushed him but quickly righted himself, rearing up onto his back hooves in order to strike out with his front ones with an explosive but not fully-developed honking sound, beak clacking threateningly and ears laid back.

His forelimbs flailed and struck out for a short time until the youngster lost balance, and finally sank back down onto all fours into a position that was easier to defend.

Mulberry saw Mother raise her talon to strike, but she was too close and moving too fast to stop herself. Just before she collided with Blackberry, she felt the hit, and could do nothing as it drove her face downward. Thankfully, it also knocked her off to the side a bit too so that she didn't gallop, and fall straight into, her opponent.

With a snarl, and a sharp shake of her head from side to side, Mulberry tensed and then turned and sprang at Mother again. She couldn't let her prepare an attack. She had to keep moving and keep assaulting her. If Mulberry slowed down, she feared that she would lose instantly.

However, her enthusiasm and lack of foresight got the best of her. As soon as she sprang, she felt a muscle in her rear right leg seize up. She knew the second that she left the ground that she should have positioned herself better, but there was no avoiding the consequences now.
Mulberry yelped in pain and instinctively curled inward, throwing off her whole jump and making her fall to the ground like a boulder. To make matters worse, she fell on top of her already injured forepaw and twisted it under her. Another yelp of pain ripped from her charcoal maw and rang out through Polaris.
