The gem was dull and ugly, covered in mud and blending into the foggy, gray and green surroundings. Surrounded by ferns and half sunk into a puddle of mud, it was barely visible when it shivered. The creature inside was waking, very very slowly, its tiny eyes opening like shards of murky water among the black of shadow. He began to stretch its body, which pressed up against the crystal, and cracks appeared on the green gem's surface. They spiderwebbed until they shattered and fell away, letting the creature be revealed to the world.
The newborn creature lazily put its paws on the edge and tried to push itself up. However, that disrupted the balance of the shell and it tilted forward, letting mud seep into the bottom, mixing in the amniotic fluids that had previously filled the chrysalis. She didn't seem to really notice, though, as the cold liquid seeped into her fur.
She reached forward to step out, as if forgetting that the mud wasn't solid, and her paw went sinking into it and she fell forward with a splat. She squeaked with surprise as she tumbled forward, her fur now sufficiently coated with fluid and mud. Finally, she realized that, perhaps, it wasn't so good to have so much in her fur as she was starting to get a little cold.
She shivered as she struggled through the mud, splashing and forcing her way through until she reached solid ground. She slowly heaved herself into the grasses and fell on her stomach, panting heavily. She was exhausted from her fight against the mud and she wished she could go to sleep now. Yes, sleeping would be nice right now.
