Child Name: ???
Gender: Unknown (up to adopter to decide if it comes to know one)
Species: Hybrid - Black Fruit Bat x Alpaca
Element: Light
Stone: Amazonite (belly)
Appearance: This creature is a rather bizarre mix. Most of its body is thickly-furred with short hair, like a bat's. Sized closer to its alpaca parent, it will be about three feet tall at the shoulder and weigh approximately one hundred pounds at full size. Its torso is quite batlike--stout, broad and furry, with heavily-muscled chest and back--while its limbs are distinctly alpaca, long and bony. Membranes of webbed skin, only very finely-furred, stretch from the limbs to the torso, and from the hind legs to the thin, short tail. Two batlike wings, the fifth and sixth limbs, protrude from the back with broad webbed skin as well. These allow the hybrid brief glides through the air, and can halt it, at least, from falling too badly from even the tallest heights. They function more like parachutes, though, than wings, disallowing vertical flight with the Gembound's weight. The legs cannot turn outward, rendering their webbing useless.
The neck is long, slender, and leads to a head shaped distinctly like an alpaca's, but with a noticeable almost canine shape to the muzzle. The teeth beneath its lips are those of a bat, with pointed canines. The nostrils and eyes--complete with long eyelashes--are also those of an alpaca, and the ears are somewhere between an alpaca's long and broad ones, and the fruit bat's short, stubby, pointy ones. They appear to be almost fox-like, though with a narrowed base.
The Amazonite gemstone is polished, sea-green flecked with paler seafoam shades, and small. It's settled along the Gembound's underside, at the belly. The fur color is a rich, dark chocolate brown shading to black over the extremities.
The slender limbs are tipped with pointed, but fairly soft, toed hooves that tend to splay out over stone, granting this Gembound an excellent climbing ability.
