It was long enough that the child waited for the moment to arrive. The chrysalis had grown until is was about as big as a medium sized dog, the visible shape of a winged creature's shadow within. Now it's eyes were open and it waited. For what it was waiting for, there was no answer. It was patient and calm until it knew that it had waited long enough. It slowly began to open up its body, pressing against the shell around it that cracked under the weight. The gem-egg was weak now, weak enough for the baby to break free from its confines and tumble onto the ground.

The first thing it noticed was that it was cold. It was freezing here and there was no feather or fur to keep the chick warm. It didn't have any kind of thick skin, besides the thicker stuff on their belly, so they curled up instinctively, trying to preserve the warmth in their tiny body. The first thing the baby knew was cold and fear and loneliness. Not a great start to life, perhaps.

The hatching of the young chick appeared to have sparked a change, a butterfly effect in the area. An oblong stone rested next to the crumbling chrysalis remains like a shimmering and more majestic chicken egg. It was almost as if the movement from the outside world alerted the rock that it was time to be alive. And so being alive is what would happen.

The moonstone shifted before cracks began to form over its surface. Then a hole pierced. Air suddenly rushed inside the tight space. Inside the creature took its first breath, frigid and strange. Before long the rest of the egg broke open to reveal a strange oddity of traits; fur and flesh dampened and messy around a hodgepodge of a creature.

Startling blue eyes blinked, taking in the strange new world it found itself in. It was so different from the simple existence she had known. The cold temperature, the sounds of trickling water, the very presence of air and light and sound. Most noticeably, though, was the creature that was near her. Perhaps it was an innate instinct that let her know that they were siblings, perhaps it was simply that she just hatched and was attaching to whatever was first seen. Whatever was the cause, she knew it to be important.

As such, she turned her long awkward body towards it curiously.

It was a similar feeling when the little chick watched the hybrid thing hatch - an innate feeling told her that they were siblings. Perhaps it was just their hatching together or something different entirely and she thought that it was strange that she had this feeling at all. But she was freezing and nothing else really seemed to matter at the moment.

"Cold!" she chirped as she staggered out of her little ball and began to crawl towards the other hatchling, making small squeaks and chirps along the way. There was some thick stuff on the back of her sibling's body and it was the only thing nearby that looked warm at all. As she approached the other baby she tried to press herself against her sibling and soak up any warmth they had to spare.

The young hybrid cocked her head slightly at the chirped word of the other creature. She quietly watched it awkwardly move closer to her, neither encouraging nor discouraging its actions as it pressed against her. Blue eyes took in the form of the hatchling next to her, looking it over and then comparing it to herself. They were quite different from each other, that much was easy to tell. So odd that she felt such a strong attachment to the critter.

Yet such logical analysis quickly left her mind as the young chick began to bury itself in what little bits of downy fur she had including the longer bristles of baby mane along her neck and back. Despite the cold of Pisces causing her breath to form tiny clouds, a warm feeling began to envelope her. Instinctually she moved her long body to semi-wrap around the chick to provide it warmth.

Cold,” the chick had said. And it had felt right when it was said. Now, though, it felt wrong. She wasn’t quite sure at first why. Then a word came to her.

Warm,” she uttered softly.
