Perhaps a blind owl should never fly.

If that was so, then Galactic was about to be proven the fool. But damned if he didn't try.

Which was why the Screech Owl could be found on a rather runty tree. He wasn't fool enough to try and fly from a tall tree, but he needed to be high enough off the ground to get some lift. His talons dug into the bark, and he ruffled his feathers, shivering as he gathered his courage.

The owl took a deep breath, shuffling closer to the edge of the branch. He could only hope that he had chosen somewhere with a safe place to crash-land - the ground had felt thick with leaves, and soft, so if he failed to fly it would not hurt too badly. That is, if he had oriented himself towards the leaves. There was always that chance that he hadn't.

Well, there was no time like the present, he supposed. So, spreading his wings wide, he released his grip on the tree branch, and allowed himself to fall.

The wind billowed beneath his feathers, and he gasped, eyes widening as he found himself not falling, instead ghosting silently through the air. He didn't quite know where he was going, but it wasn't down, and for now that was good enough for him!

The owl squinted, releasing a thrilled screech. He beat his wings, feeling the air shift around them, the movement absolutely noiseless thanks to his specialized primary feathers. Rising slightly in the air, he gave another screech.

Despite his lack of eyesight, something warned him of the approaching tree, and instinct drove him to tilt his wing just so, allowing him to swoop around it. Beating his wings rapidly, he regained the speed he had lost while dodging around the tree.
