Jaws snapped shut with an audible click as a pale paw sunk into the hollow of Jay's chin, restraining another hiss from spilling out of her throat. The cat was undeterred by this for now, at least-- she'd avoided from biting her own tongue.

It was enough, however, for Jay to recoil and be thrown off Pale. She skidded back unevenly, shaking herself out, and waited for Pale to get back to her paws. She did not wait, however, for Pale to attack her again.

The hulking kit leapt for Palefur's shoulders, trying to latch on and resist the urge to bring out her claws to keep a hold. Instead, she bit the scruff of Pale's neck. Not hard enough to draw blood, nor light enough for it to be ignored, but just enough that she'd be able to hang on for now.

With Jay reeling back now, Pale had just enough time to scramble to her feet, saving her belly from any kind of attack. But she barely had any time to prepare before Jay was coming at her again, this time leaping over her and onto her back. She yowled with surprise and whirled around, stopping herself from spitting in Jay's face.

She could feel her teeth connecting with her scruff and for a second she was confused. Weren't they not trying to hurt each other? But Jay's grip didn't hurt much at all. It was just that - a grip. She had been trying not to use her teeth but if she was as soft as Jay was being, maybe it would be okay.

But for now, the most immediate problem, was Jay on her back. She did the first thing that came to mind. She let herself fall to one side, hoping to smash Jay against the ground - not very hard, of course, she wasn't big or heavy enough to cause much damage, but just aiming to weaken her grip enough to let go.

Jay clung on for dear life-- or as much as she could cling without actually sinking needle-sharp teeth into Pale's skin. Predictably, she let go of the pale scruff when her back hit the cave floor with another muffled thump.

A new problem arose. There was a cat on top of her.

For a split second the black cat squirmed under her before she lifted her hind legs upwards in a move that was executed not too long ago, aiming to thrust her paws against Pale's back, trying to throw her off her onto the ground next to the kitten.

The pressure along her scruff disappeared as she hit the ground but now she was in the awkward position of being on top of Jay. She was going to get off as soon as she could, maybe finish through with the roll, but Jay was quicker and her feet were now connecting with Pale's back. She tumbled away, getting banged up by her tumble.

As soon as she stopped moving, she scrambled to her feet and made her way forward as fast as she could, but she tripped on her way, unable to make it back to Jay in time before she would be able to get back on her feet.

Jay flung herself to her paws again as quick as she could, but, if Pale hadn't fallen over, she likely would have gotten herself thrown onto. The broad kitten followed Pale's fall for a moment before she turned and went to throw herself, in turn, on top of Pale.

She was careful to do so without putting her own pale belly close to any of the other kitten's claws and she opened her jaws to latch back onto the scruff of her neck in the same, oddly gentle grip-- not too hard to break skin. It was only a spar, after all.

Pale didn't have time to get back on her feet before Jay was on her again. The pinching in her scruff was back and she was frustrated that she wasn't gaining any headway against Jay. While the black kitten was smart enough to keep her belly away, she was still in reach of Pale's paws.

She had to force herself not to unsheathe them, pulled them deep in her paws to stop them from coming out as she reached back to scrabble at Jay's head, aiming for the eyes and nose, gently of course, so she would get disoriented enough to release her.

And then a paw was swatting at her face.

At first, it was bareable enough that she could ignore it, but eventually a toe got into her eye and she recoiled, squeezing the afflicted eye shut and squirming off Palefur with a mew of frustration.

This did not stop her from attacking further.

She waited specifically until the tabby got back to her feet before the bulky kitten came barrelling back into her, shoulder going for her side to try to knock her off her paws and send her back onto the cave floor.

Her swatting attack worked as Jay suddenly backed off, releasing her scruff. She scrambled back to her feet as soon as she could and shook out the dust in her pelt before preparing for Jay's attack.

She was coming at her again, her shoulder hitting her side and sending her reeling back. The force unbalanced her and, after a moment of trying to stay on her feet, she flopped back onto her side. But she wasn't going to give Jay a chance to jump on her. Not in front and below her, she reached forward, trying to tangle her legs in Jay's feet to knock her down as well.

(FORGOT TO HIT ATTEMPT ON THE LAST POST I'M SORRY)

Jay was just about getting ready to, again, jump onto Pale-- but before she could even really think about it there were four limbs under hers, yanking and weaving and tangling, until the broad kitten was falling over onto her side as well, hitting the ground.

In an effort to protect her soft underbelly, she rolled over and began waving white paws around aimlessly-- mostly in the general direction of Palefur's face --to try and get her to back off. She did, in essence, look a bit like an upturned turtle.

An upturned turtle flailing at a velocity previously unknown to gembounds, however.

Pale felt her paws catch on Jay's legs and the cat was flipped on her side. The cat immediately rolled over and swatted at everything in sight, something that surprised Pale a little bit, but she would react accordingly. She scrambled to her feet and backed away as Jay had her little fit before stepping forward and trying to snake one of her paws to rest on her throat. She tried to be gentle so as not to choke her, but hard enough so that Jay would feel some pressure.
