The sound that Dip made when she took the rat from him, perhaps it was some kind of confirmation that she approved of his hunt? Or perhaps a communication of gratitude? "Thank...you..." he repeated, slowly, testing out the words. Perhaps that is what he should say when he was given things.
He crouched down to wait as Siren cooked her meal, catching the skin and quickly devouring it. His hunger was abated for now - a full rat, plus the skin, bones, and half the meat of another was enough, but he did not see the harm in having a little extra. He watched curiously as Dip prepared her food, wondering why she had to cook it like that? Why could she now just eat it, as he did?
Strange, but he shrugged it off. She was, after all, purple and that in itself was quite strange.
As she began speaking, he did his best to listen to the sounds she was making, connecting them to sounds he'd heard before. There was silence after she spoke in which he analyzed the sounds she was making and tried to understand her speech. "Fun," he repeated. "Bones?" Ah, now was when he needed to come up with his own sounds. Pick something out from what he knew to try and communicate his meaning.
After a few more seconds, he came up with his sound. "Hunt." There was, perhaps, more to it, but he really had been hunting pretty constantly since hatch.

"There you go," Serendipity said between bites, using the knife to cut smaller pieces of the rat off, ramming bite-sized slices into her mouth. "You should say 'please' when you want something, too."
Most might think that's common sense. Though, Dread hadn't said 'please' when he wanted a shiny, he just sort of demanded it.
She shrugged this off, however, waiting for Azrael to come out with some words. Or word, singular, as he managed. The child remained chewing for a good few moments, popping another two or three cooked strips into her mouth as she considered.
"I mean," she began. "We just hunted. Don't you do anything else? Like, uh, make friends, or talk to people, or look for stuff or look at all the markings on the walls?"
Canis certainly had plenty, at least. There were carvings along the West Wall, some ancient, and paintings that looked far more recent, coating the walls in rich, colourful paint. Surely there was more stuff to do here than just, hunt?

Too many words this time. Too many new words. He understood "hunt" and "people" but that was pretty much it. She was taking a long time to eat, too. She was just weird, then, because she was purple and she cooked her food and she took time to eat. An unnatural predator, to be sure, but he had to remind himself that she was one of those "beyond" that of a predator. She thought more. Like him, maybe. But, still, he had not figured out if he, too, was more then a predator. He could make noises, too, but not as many as Dip or the four-limbs-two-wings.
So, instead of trying to understand what she was saying, he would have to infer. The first part was stating the hunt in past tense. Yes, the hunt was over now. Perhaps she was asking what else he did? That was something he couldn't really answer immediately. He hunted...and he waited and rested before he had to hunt again.
A thought came up and he raised one of his hands. A soft glow from his chest and the entire hand vanished into shadow. It was still visible in a way, but merely a silhouette, the faint glow from the eye within completely concealed. "Darkness," he huffed, as if this was an acceptable answer to her question.

Siren helpfully pointed directly at Azrael's chest as he brought up darkness, and as the lights flooded out for him to conceal himself. "Oh, magic," she said, and then went back to raking the knife through the rat to eat another strip of meat. "I think everyone can do magic, but everybody does different kinds of magic."
She took what bits of meat she could rake off the bones and then set them down, chewing and tucking her knife away. She leant down into the dirt and pushed her hands against the ground, brow furrowing with concentration.
As always with magic, however-- Serendipity found that it was pretty close to random. Beads of sweat were forming on her brow but nothing happened, the magic came and went without actually doing anything. "Sometimes it doesn't work," she tried to explain, pushing herself up and shaking her hands out.
"So, if all you do is make dark, do you just-- hide and hunt, then? You don't do anything else? You don't-- I don't know. Talk to people, or make things? You have hands."

So that was the sound for it. Magic. He looked down at his claws, or, at least, the shadow of them, and the eye within his palm opened. The glow was so faint in the shadow, he could barely see it at all. Curious...could he, then, do the opposite and make lights instead of darkness?
He lifted up one of his arms on the other side, one that was not in shadow and, for a moment, his chest glowed brighter again. He wanted to create darkness, it was what came more natural, but, instead, he forced his thoughts to turn to making light. Instead of taking away the light, he wanted to add to it. A moment later, a soft red glow began to encompass his hand. It looked quite poetic - in his right hand he held darkness and in his left he held light. "This...magic?" He looked up at Dip, his eyes focusing on her hands. "Dip magic...burn?" Perhaps there was more to her magic then just making things hot with her palms. Perhaps the way she killed rats was magic too.
The beast thought about it for a moment, thinking if there had been anything else, really, to his life in the last few days and he shrugged. He reached forward to grab the uneaten carcass of the rat. "Hunt. Magic." There really hadn't been much else to his life. But one sound in particular stood out and he leaned closer. "Make?"
