The surface of the great black marsh shuddered beneath the constant rain drops. It was a peaceful noise, undisturbed by the movements of any creature below. For a while, there was silence; as if the lion cub's words hadn't been heard at all. But then the surface began to ripple. From its center, there seemed a subtle movement, slowly gliding towards the shore. The underwater current swirled the surface of the marsh until a tall, yellow frill poked out. It was followed soon by the top of a massive head, and wide, round eyes. Their nictitating membrane slowly pulled back, and slit pupils surrounded by vivid yellow irises rolled to look at the sacrificial pile atop the metal tray.

Suddenly, the beast's entire head emerged from the waters. It was big enough to swallow Usui whole, and then some. He came crashing down on the small offering, wide jaws scooping up the offering and sliding it down his throat, tray and mud included. Aquarian cackled and reeled his head back, beaching a portion of his body on the shore and hoisting himself up with his tiny legs. Angling his jaws down at the lion cub, he stared with his toothy jaws cracked open. "WHAT DO YOU SEEK, CHILD?" He asked, tilting his head slightly to look at the cub with one eye.

The rain continued to drip onto the cub’s already sodden, muddy and unattractive pelt. The only redemptive feature regarding his meagre presence was beside him, in the form of a pile of food on the roughly crafted metal tray. The boy called out, then settled back onto an even stance, limbs shoulder-width apart and tail hung low in a great reverence as he waited for the creature of his first waking day to appear. Usui was thrilled and nervous at one go. He knew that a beast such as Aquarian had no need to answer his call and if he did, the audience that the fallen would grant would likely be a short one. Aquarian need not answer to the gembounds, he was much more powerful than that.

The boy kept his pale green eyes peeled onto the surface of the water and saw the ripple began. He flicked his tail in anticipation and fear. Then, a gliding movement not unlike that in his memory. Usui gulped and tried to put on his brave face. Aquarian emerged then, frill first followed by head and the lion instinctively bowed to the powerful creature in greeting as its gigantic mouth latched onto the entire tray with food, flinging mud and water all over Usui’s pelt, although at that stage it didn’t bother him anymore. The aquatic animal then reared back, and then breached itself, and towered over the cub was by now shivering slightly from fear, eyeing Aquarian’s powerful jaws which could have easily crunched him. He gulped again and mewled out bravely once the creature addressed him.

“I seek to understand the source of this never-ending rain.” He paused then, not wanting to ask is it you? for fear of offending the large creature and also he believed it not to be Aquarian. "Do you know which powerful being did this? I’m afraid for Cetus…” and then, the naturalist conservationist in him started rambling. "The ground would be saturated and mud would overflow into your home and…” he paused, and shuffled his paws. "I…I’d like to try help the gembounds…” he trailed off, and waited for Aquarian to reply, feeling extremely small and vulnerable at the moment.

As Aquarian awaited a response from the little cub, a slow vibrating emanated from his throat. Something like a curious growl, the sound of a massive creature eying what he couldn't tell was a toy or a meal. When the lion cub spoke, he slowly blinked those large eyes of his and gazed to the ceiling above. Thick clouds of moisture accumulated near the roof of the cave, unleashing a persistent torrent of rain upon the jungle room. It was so humid here that the moisture had little chance to dissipate back into the air, and when it did, it just rose back to the ceiling until the clouds rained it out again. Aquarian looked back down at Usui and cackled as he spoke of a powerful being. The lion cub's concern for this cave, Aquarian's home, amused him. "NO CREATURE CONTROLS THIS GARDEN." He purred and shifted his eyes to the jungle. "IT HAS BEEN OVERGROWN WITH WEEDS FED BY THE RAIN! IT WILL FLOURISH FOR AS LONG AS NO CREATURE CONTROLS IT STILL."

Why did the lion cub want to stop the rain, anyways? The rain was a natural process. The mud filling his swamp was a natural process. If his swamp clouded over with darkness, so be it; Aquarian had run his course. "WHY ARE YOU CONCERNED?" Aquarian's wide eyes turned back to the lion cub. "CAN YOU NOT LEAVE?" The lion had legs. He could simply walk out of this cave and leave the rain behind if he wanted. Who knew how long the rain would persist for? Aquarian was bound to this marsh, but the lion wasn't.

The giant beast seemed rather nonchalant about the current situation. Happy, in fact, with the current state of events happening in the cave from the purring tone it gave as it swung its giant head and looked about the room in a sort of satisfaction. It spoke then and one phrase stuck in Usui’s mind. ”No creature controls this garden.” That meant that…whatever was happening here was not done by Aquarian nor any other creature. But how, and why, was this weird weather phenomenon happening then? A dozen possibilities ran through Usui’s mind. Could it be that this was an after-effect of a massive event happening in Origin then? He shook his head a little then, clearing the rain from his eyes, and Aquarian pressed him with questions. The boy looked at Aquarian and gulped, nervous by the sheer size of that creature. “While it is raining heavily here, water elsewhere is drying up. This imbalance would not benefit you, nor the other gembounds…in the long run.” Usui flicked his tail and gazed into the other’s eyes stoicly. “But I see you have no answers for this. I wonder if there’s another powerful creature causing such changes.” He fell silent again, features falling in disappointment at the lack of any clues or information, but Usui knew that he could not be so disrespectful in front of this giant fish. He thus lifted his head with a grim smile, and continued on. “Is there anything that you know, any form of guidance that may aid me as I seek the source of this rain? Otherwise, I’d like to thank you and bid you farewell.” The cub waited for Aquarian’s response, hoping that there he could provide any inkling of knowledge which he knew at all, before returning to his underwater den.

Usui then proceeded to inform Aquarian that while it was raining endlessly in the cave, apparently other rooms were beginning to dry up. So? What did he care? Aquarian had no ties to any other rooms, not anymore. Granted, he didn't know what kind of affairs went on in any room besides Cetus, but he had been abandoned. If he'd been abandoned, then he assumed that everything that had previously gone on the caves had ceased, and Aquarian was no longer responsible for the duties he'd been assigned. The goings on of other rooms had no bearing on him. Still, the lion seemed disappointed that Aquarian had no answers. The massive creature tilted his head, shifting himself and looking at the feline with his other eye. His mention of another powerful creature, again, caused Aquarian to lean back and cackle. "THE CAVE! THE CAVE IS ALIVE! IT CHANGES, IT BREATHES, LIKE YOU!" He answered, pointing his nose at the lion.

It seemed that Aquarian wasn't keen on giving the lion a straight answer. To Aquarian, though, those answers were as obvious as could be. "THERE IS NOTHING THE CREATURE CAN DO BUT LET THE CAVE RUN ITS COURSE." His naturally booming voice had adopted a calmer intone. Usui would then bid him farewell, and Aquarian snorted, expelling a powerful stream of air from his nostrils. His wide jaws would slowly part, revealing a mischievous grin. The titan rose up again, cackling as he receded back into the waters and disappeared beneath the surface of the black swamp.

Exit Aquarian.

Aquarian seemed to take a delirious delight in what was happening. His booming voice thundered out several ‘answers’ though, and Usui found himself thinking. The cave…changes? It…breathes? Was this not a cave after all but the internal gut of some animal or a figment of imagination in which they were mere pawns? He shivered and realized that Aquarian didn’t seem keen on revealing all the secrets of Origin. The giant fish went on to say that there was nothing the creature could do but let the cave run its course. Did this mean that Origin’s cave occurred in cycles? That there was pre-planned pattern as to how its weather would change? Alas, the cub did not intend to ask questions till he got eaten and had a distinct feeling that Aquarian was not in a mood to divulge more. What was…the creature? Nemean? Was Nemean the creature?

Alas then, he’d chosen to bid the giant fish farewell and so, Aquarian would blast the room with his steam and then grin and sink into the water like a punk. ”Dammit.” the boy spoke, not feeling any closer to his answer, but also having to deal with all these new perspectives. He was left with silence – the rain beat down heavily and made him realized how miserable he’d continue to be when here. Usui looked once more at Aquarian’s home, then he turned around and padded out of Cetus.

-Exit Usui-
