Aquamarine was in the tunnel, exploring the tunnel. She knew she was supposed to find secrets of the water, but her ruler gave her permission to find out about the land as well. The small pup had no clue where to start. Should she sniff something out? Should she try and hear something carefully? The little one did not know at all. She simply was confused for a moment. Than an idea popped into her head. She thought about the idea for a moment wondering if it would work. After thinking it over, she decided that it would work. The little one's first step in her idea was to find a dark crevice she could fit into. It was not going to be easy, but she was determined to find one. She looked around for a moment, determined to find a crevice.

The little one looked around and unfortunately she could not find anything. She was starting to get very disappointed. She gave a short and tired huff, getting very impatient. Though in time she would grow up and gain more patience. Now though, she was just a small child. She decided to take a small break from looking, and sat in the tunnel. How hard was it to find a dark crevice she cold fit into?! Hopefully if she did find one, and item holding some serious lore would be in that crevice. Aquamarine would not give up. She would find an object with some lore in a dark crevice somewhere. There had to be.

Apparently her last attempt did not work. Finally though, she found a crevice that was just her size if not more, that she could easily fit into. It seemed to be very dark in there, and she could not see that well in there. How was she supposed to see without light? How was she going to get light? There had to be a way, after all, all gembounds had magic. That was what she learned from the adults from The Sea Kingdom. Maybe there was some sort of magic she could use to get in the crevice to see. Yeah, that would work! She would summon up some magic to see what was in the crevice.

Aquamarine focused very hard on her magic, and she could feel it working. Suddenly, a wisp floated in the air in front of her. She looked in amazement, happy to see that she had magic. She took a step forward towards the crevice, and the wisp of light followed her. Now that Aquamarine had a source of light, she stepped in the crevice. She had no clue what she was going to find. Though she hoped it would be an important object, holding some very serious lore. Would it be a gem or some sort of artifact? She did not now, but the crevice seemed to be pretty big, even for her size. She continued to look, wondering what she would find.

What was... important?

What was 'lore?'

Who was to decide this? The capybara was young; she knew little of the caves. Perhaps the story of a mouse would suffice. Or the story of kings. The tale of a small creature could hold as much feeling, and as many lessons, as a saga of heroes. But no narrator was there to lead her on; no one was there to tell her whether she would find something grand, or something small. And what if something that looked grand turned out to be unimportant to her? What if something small and nondescript held hidden depths?

It was all a matter of opinion, of course.

So one might wonder: what would Aquamarine's opinion be of the small, time-worn, weathered iron sword, its edges pitted with the passage of ages? It had long gone dull, and rust had eaten parts away.

What would she make of this?

Aquamarine found what looked like a small time-worn sword. Who did this sword belong to? Why was it in this crevice? She would find out these answers right now. The capybara put her paw on the sword, attempting to use hindsight on it. She could feel her magic coursing through her veins, working successfully. She did not know what to expect, but she hoped something important would be revealed. She had heard horrors from her queen on how horrible Astraea was, and she would not let this master stop her from learning and discovering about the caves. She paid close attention as a vision came into view. What would she see?

The image, as her magic had been, was faint.

A creature, in the dark gap: squat, and unlike anything she would have seen, a barely-visible silhouette. It was muttering to itself in some unknown lingo, though given its tone, they may well have been swear-words.

"Blatting fit-biggling forpant rek," it muttered. And all the while, in its little hands, it was gouging bits of iron from the blade. It was as though the sword had been forged badly, and it was almost flint-knapping out a proper shape, double-edged, as best it could.

Aquamarine did not understand the vision one bit. She just saw someone sitting, and to her that thing did not seem happy. No, this would not do. She decided to use her magic once again to get a clearer more understandable vision. She confidently put her paw back on the sword, and used her magic again. Her magic felt more powerfully this time, and she could feel it working. The young pup felt a vision come through again. She hoped at least this vision would be more specific.

There was a scream.

The scent of blood, metallic-sweet. The sound of it dripping, and the sound of shuffling feet.

The sword's little bearer moaned in pain, stumbling into its crevice. It took effort to haul itself in, falling twice, and when it at last went to ground there it was clear that it was in a bad way. It curled up, its shape still a mere silhouette in the deep darkness.

The sword in this vision was complete, and chipped, scarred, with wounds that had been left on it to this day. And the creature, huddled and shivering in the blood-stinking nook in the wall, breathed raggedly.

Outside, in the distance, tinny shouts and muffled cries rang out.

The vision faded.
