Hope is but a waking dream
Aristotle gave a shrug of his shoulders, if James wasn’t gonna take a compliment then he wasn’t going to force him. Aristotle knew he couldn’t move the egg on his own if he had tried. The thing was nearly as big as he was, and it was solid stone with a light in it. That was going to be really heavy. Aristotle nodded as James spoke of what to do with the net they had made. You’re strong and smart, I completely agree. It’s going to take both of us to carry it back to your new house. They were going to be exhausted by the time they made it to james’ home, he was quite sure of that.

Aristotle watched James work, making note of what he did for later use. Though he made himself useful where it was needed, he was pretty sure that the smart little colt with him was going to grow up to be a brilliant grown up some day. Hold on. We should pick it up real quick and tug both sides to make sure the knots are tight. The young cub suggested. He was pretty sure that would tighten it sufficiently. With that said, the cub picked up one of the handles in his jaws and smiled giving James a curt nod.

He waited for his friend to take the other handle and pull.

Ah right, testing it first.

He picked up the other side and nodded, pulling when Ari did. Would it hold...?

Just when James thought it would stay strong, a loose knot came undone and it slipped, half of it falling apart. James groaned and shook his head, quickly getting back to work. It was just a loose knot, he'd just have to tie them tighter, is all.

Once that was done, he lifted his side up again, hopefully it would work.

"Okay... pull!" he said, his voice muffled by the net in his mouth.

Hope is but a waking dream

Aristotle set himself with his claws dug into the ground for extra grip. He began to pull as soon as he felt tension in the net. But unfortunately right before his eyes and before he could react to catch himself. Aristotle found himself once more on his back. The net hadn’t held. At least the egg had been in the net at that moment, it might have broken. He wasn’t sure whether the egg was solid or hollow, and he wasn’t ready to find out just yet. Not by his fault, he would hate himself if he hurt it.

Standing up Aristotle shook his entire body and watched as James got to work fixing the net where the knot had come loose. As he finished James picked up the other end of the net again, speaking in his mumbled words through the vine in his mouth. It was a good thing Aristotle could understand him. He leaned down picking up the vine handle in his mouth once more.

Giving a quick nod Aristotle began to pull. This time the pair was lucky! The net seemed to hold only creaking as the knots tightened. That was what they wanted, the net seemed strong this time.

Aristotle leaned down placing the net back on the ground. Now he headed over to stand in front of the gem egg, a smile spread over his muzzle. Alright you push it from the other side, and I’ll walk backwards and make sure it doesn’t go too fast or roll away. Aristotle explained what he thought would be a good plan. He waited for his friend to take his place.

Slowly walking backwards he guided the egg over on top of the net.

James sighed in relief as the net held- and held good this time. He followed Ari and got behind the head, head bending down as he got ready to push. He managed to push it up and over itself, sighing in relief as it rolled smoothly, not getting caught or anything. He got it onto the net and stood up straight, tail flicking back and forth.

"Okay..." he said, "Now we have to lift it. Ready?"

James trotted around to grab his side of the net, lifting it up slightly, but not enough that he lifted the egg just yet, just so he could see Ari.

Hope is but a waking dream

Aristotle breathed a sigh of relief when the egg finally rested on the net James had crafted. The really scary part was over, it was nestled comfortably in the center of the net and all they had to do was pick it up. That was easier said than done. The net was going to be lopsided. There was a significant height difference between the two, and probably always would be.

Making sure the egg would no longer shift if he moved, Aristotle walked over to one side of the net and watched James. Both rounded audits shifted to listen intently to James. This was the hard part. Let’s try this. Aristotle leaned down taking the vine handle in his mouth he lifted at the same time James did.

However it seemed either they were out of sync, or maybe one of them just wasn't strong enough. The Net held but it seemed that Aristotle at least couldn't lift the egg. Did shoe liff? Er did I go to early? The young cub asked through the vines in his teeth.a

"Oh- sorry! I didn't realize we were lifting at that moment," he said, and tried again, "On three... one, two... three!"

James lifted his side up, and the egg lifted too! The net strained slightly but held firm, proving that it was strong. James sighed in relief and slowly moved forward, letting Ari match his pace before actually heading in a direction. He couldn't talk with a mouthful of net, unfortunately, but as long as the egg was safe, everything was fine.

Knock on wood...

Hope is but a waking dream
A rather amused smile spread over Aristotle’s muzzle as James spoke. A soft chuckle came after the smile, It seemed James didn't catch his ques quite yet. Oh well, that just meant they had more to learn about each other.

As James instructed him to go on three he nodded in affirmation. At his signal, Aristotle lifted again. This time the egg lifted off the floor, the vines gave a soft creak as they became the only thing supporting the eggs full weight.

Now James began to walk, Aristotle watched his friend move forward from the corner of his bright blue eyes. He easily matched the young colts movements. He was very careful to watch where he was going, but glanced at James every once in a while to make sure of where they were going. It seemed they weren’t going in much of a direction at all at first, it seemed that James was just assuring them of their pace. Though Aristotle gave a flick of his tail as if to say, ‘We got this, let’s get the baby home.’ He was aiming to gently swat James on the thigh.

Though he was perfectly ready when the colt began leading the way.

James' tail shot between his legs as he squealed, not expecting anything to just suddenly swat his rump, no matter how gently. He rocked forward before remembering the egg and quickly adjusting, ears pinning lightly at Ari for a moment as if to say, What the hell, man?

The colt lead them through the tunnel, being very careful to keep steady. They approached Orion and James' eyes flicked up. Nearly there...

James' jaw was starting to hurt, so he set down the net after signaling Ari, "We're nearly there... we'll head straight and then a bit to the left, and we'll be there in a few minutes."

He nodded and picked up the egg again, and started off forwards.

Aristotle shot him an apologetic cringe. He hadn’t meant to startle his friend, he hadn’t realized just how easily spooked his best friend was. He should have assumed after their first meeting when James had bolted at the sight of him. That had been a way to say hello, scaring the metaphorical shit out of the person you wanted to talk to. Horrible way to start a friendship.

As James led the way through the tunnel. As they exited the tunnel James signalled to lower the net. He was thankful for the break. The Vine tasted funky and he didn’t like it at all, not to mention that his jaw was beginning to hurt. With a quick sigh of relief the young lion sat his side of the net on the ground. Aristotle nodded his head as James spoke.

When James picked the egg up so did Aristotle as they started off again.
