The boys'd been directed to Orion, given an encouraging nod until their father vanished into the depths of Tunnel K. Off to the starry vault they'd gone, then - Crown taking the lead for once with wary eyes and a curious glow to him. It wasn't necessary, but a prickling hyperfixation on always being seen by his brother was forcing his magic.
There was a brief discussion between the two of them regarding their vantage point; where they'd call for the Kings from. The Forum was the most open of the spaces, but set with walls all around. No way to see - not well, anyways. The Tower would be too treacherous of a climb for either of them, even with hooves and paws. They'd taken one glance inside at all the missing stairs and decided against it.
So, that left them traversing the path up to the Throne.
Crown stared forlornly at the skeleton embedded into its seat, twisted into a perpetual (ironic!) pose. It was grim to look at, even for a lamb well-acquainted with death. At least his prior self - if he could be called that - hadn't bothered to leave bones to be displayed.
This black lamb bleated softly, placing his hooves on one of the arms of the throne, tail flicking side to side. Ghostly-white eyes moved over the bones, contemplating their structural integrity. His conclusion must have been satisfactory, since he hauled himself up with it as his footholds. Balancing on the left armrest and then sitting, Crown called down to Sword - as if waiting for his brother to occupy the other and make their summons.
His glow, weakened by the sustained cast, finally puttered out.

There was much they learned from their father about the Kings and despite uncertainty Sword held his head high with confidence that they'd be able to do this. All around Orion, they'd trekked- and it was fitting to reach to the Throne for their eventual summoning.
If only they knew their lamb father's name. Then, the irony would only be stronger, but for now he was simply enamored by the showcase of bones atop the stone. And what a weird stone it was! Sword paces around it while Crown stared at the gem-encased skeleton, Sword much more interested in the shards of gem scattered here and there accented by the odd structure they had to climb.
The bleat drew his attention to his brother, and Crown had already begun to find his way on top of the rock. Oh! Right, the Kings. Shaking out his feathers, Sword stepped around to look up to his brother scaling the scene. He was called for again, and- what did he want? Oh. The Throne looked rather lopsided in this ritual, and Sword's head tilted as he moved to scramble up beside his brother.
What now? The glow was fading- not a good sign in Sword's heart- and he opened his mouth cautiously. "Um-" His voice was soft and he ruffled his mane. "What- do we say..?" He shuffled from hoof to hoof, but before receiving an answer, he lifted his neck to bleat out a question. "Hey- Kings? Kings of Orion? Are you there?"
Too bad he didn't have some loud magic to spam out here. At least he had his already loud as it was voice.

At first, there was silence: only dust, and bones. And then came distant voices, drifting from a gap in Orion's far wall. The pair would need to go closer to make out the words, but if and when they did, they would hear a heated conversation taking place. The glimmer of violet-blue light at times flashed along the entrances of this little cavern, and a few stray Batcat creatures roosted fitfully above its mouth.
To enter the cave itself, the two will need to pass beneath the Batcats undetected, or risk attack.
Meanwhile, the voices are clear enough to be heard, once close:
"It doesn't bear interfering with-" "There are times when interference is necessary. If nothing is done, they will-" "So we ask others to help the hunt! I do not see a problem."
The first voice was careful, measured; the second gentle and the third, brash.
"Is that the interference you would provide, Alnitak?" said the second, disapproving. "And what would you do?" The voice held a sneer. "Need I challenge again-?" "Perhaps... there is another way."

Crown's head bobbed with uncertainty - what do they say? Their father'd never said anything about elaborate rituals, though nothing that went through his (and his sons' by proxy) mind was overly complicated. Black's speech was boiled too far into the bare essentials, at times.
Before he could properly formulate a response for the other arm of the chair, Sword'd started to call out for the Kings, projecting his voice across the whole of Orion. Ghostly white eyes widened a little as it echoed, ears pricking up past his twist of horns and listening. He saw no fantastical appearance, no starlit birds alighting on mighty wings with many eyes and dramatic appeals.
Nothing, but muffled voices far across the cave.
The sheep peered at his brother for a moment, another bleat escaping him before he jumped off the Throne - nearly sent himself tumbling down the incline leading up to it - and went on down the path, skulking with his head low and staring through the starlit corridors marking the ruins until... at last! The Wall.
His eyes searched, even as he listened to the faint, near-indecipherable murmur of voices. Something of a hunt, interference - Crown lacked any of the context for that; only that he and his brother needed to get into that cave if they were to very politely request the gift of flight (assuming that they were even hearing the Kings.) The issue lied in the beasts lying in wait above the hole, their constant shuffling, predatory snuffling.
"Dragons," he urged quietly to Sword, a worried furrow to his yet-young brow, "they look hungry..."
Softly, the lamb gasped, as if a thought was spurred into action. He pressed against his magicka, mustering a single small crescent-shaped banana. It looked plenty ripe and edible, but was scarcely the size of a person's hand. "Bait... ?" Crown woofed softly, nudging the banana a little closer to his brother, "we should make a lot... and throw them as a distraction while we sneak?" Avoiding violence and another bloody fate at the claws of dragons.
Sword nodded mutely, and the lamb lobbed the first banana as far as he could away from the cave mouth.

A flutter of hundreds of wings--and down went the batcat swarm, a tangled mass of flailing black wings. Screeches, then, as they fought over the banana--a banana swiftly torn apart by claws and teeth. After a moment, two glowing, glittering batcats erupted from the rest, spiralling away with angry cries as the rest pursued them--and the pack swept away along the ceiling.
There was a moment free to enter...

The banana was gone in seconds, and the lamb shuddered to imagine what it might've been like to be that poor fruit. Crown, fortunately, didn't have the time to think much about that and stuffed it down for later digestion and anxiety. His head dipped low into his brother's shoulder, urging the both of them into the crevice in the wall - and he was greeted by glimmering lights.
If these were the Kings, and they were still talking, the youngling waited patiently - and awkwardly - for a break in the conversation to step in and bleat softly, "hello?" His tail whipped out an uncertain rhythm. Pale-white eyes glanced around the alcove, then to his brother, "this is Sword. My name is Crown. You're - the Kings, right? You give Wings?"
Right to the point.

There was... hesitation, in all three of the birds within the single being. It looked like one creature, surely--an ethereal phoenix-like creature, streaked with the stars of galaxies, with violet and ribbons of light--but three voices came from its throat, in turn.
"We are," it confirmed, gently. It bobbed up and down in place, a light floating, as if thinking. "Wings--they only ever come for their rewards! Ha!" And then, a third voice; "Please... remember what we agreed upon." There was a loud, and annoyed, sigh--from the second voice, it seemed--and then the third again began to speak. "Something will be coming, soon. A hunt... And we are divided on what to do."
Alnitak interjected, glee in this voice. "A grand hunt! A chase, a kill." "No... The creature should be helped." Alnilam's response was gentle, but firm.
"And I think we should not interfere in what must be. Please--it will be soon. In the next few cycles, by your count. Bring your allies; bring others of your kind. We will... give you wings, perhaps, if you come to us, if you do as we ask. Soon," Mintaka said again, pleadingly.

The Kings were - in the shortest words Crown could muster - absolutely beautiful. They were a call to a sky no Gembound had ever seen, and the lamb was instantly enthralled. He fixated briefly on the shimmer of galaxies and stars (like Orion's!) before managing to tune into the frequency they spoke on.
They spoke in three voices, and he picked them apart rather quickly. All of them were different, distinct, even coming from the same mouth. They spoke of - "a hunt... ?" Help? It should be helped - he thought, without even knowing what it was. A creature was something living; Dad wanted him and his brother to be guardians, or at least be nice and protect. (Dad had also been missing for a while, but of course Crown wasn't going to think about that right now.)
"Bring your allies; bring others of -" my kind? Crown considered it for a moment, ears pricking. He looked to Sword in silent conversation, and bleated softly, "okay." Simple as that, except... "what're... your names?"
Oh, and - "would you like a banana?" One - fat and ripe and certainly large enough for the massive bird(s?) to eat as a snack - materialized in front of him and was shoved forwards. "You... have to take off the skin, but it's good. It makes you glow." White eyes drifted up and down the Kings and their already-glowing form. "Um... more glowy."

"Thank you," the Three Kings offered, after a moment, the voice combined, as if Mintaka now spoke at the forefront of them all.
The banana-gift was inspected. Recognized, even, and the Kings let out a soft coo. The banana was snapped up in a heartbeat--vanished, even; had it been eaten? Or merely... consumed? Did the Kings even need to eat-? It wasn't clear, though a moment later, their galactic form did begin to shimmer a sparkling gold.
"Perfect," Alnilam offered, to a scoff from Alnitak. "And I am Alnilam." "I am Mintaka." "I am ALNITAK," crowed the final voice, proudly.

Crown's eyes widened as the voices seemed to speak in sync, now - albeit with a tinge of... Mintaka, was it? They offered their thanks for the banana, and tucked it away in seconds. Maybe they're just being polite - oh! The lamb took a half-step back, smiling eagerly at the shining gold hue the birds had taken on.
Pretty!
"I'll be back, Kings," he assured, and if there wasn't anything else, scuffled out of the den with his brother in tow.
