Arctic Wolf

Snow was not something you see everyday, so Comet decided to build a snow house. And not just any house, one with two stories, and with strong walls for snowball fights. Yes, it was going to be great. She remembered how she built her other house in Eridanus, with rocks, mud, vines, and wood. Unfortunately, there weren't any of those materials here in the snow. There was only snow and ice. Which were literally water, so basically, she was building a house out of hard water. Shouldn't be too hard.
Comet decided to start by flattening out an area to start the building. The snow in the area was really more like ice, too hard to flatten. Oh well, she would look somewhere else.

Well, since the previous area didn't work, Comet walked for a couple meters before stopping at her next area. Hopefully this one wouldn't have hard ice or snow. But she knew that a good base should not be rushed, it was the foundation of the entire building, and it had to be strong and well made. It was a good thing her thick fur allowed her to spend as much time as she wanted in the snow without freezing.
Comet started on trying to clear this area of snow. The snow in this area was powdery, and her tail easily swept out a nice clearing to start on her fort.

Esther had stabilized themselves before going to the cold place. Why was Polaris so cold? The winged maned wolf didn't understand the strange weather that sometimes happened in the caves - they hated this weather particularly. Cold, so much unlike the warm fire they loved so much. A claw moved to scrape at some of it, the cold seeping into their scales.

With a distasteful grunt, Esther wondered if fire would make this place warm. Something in their brain was calling out to them to burn it so try to cast a flame they did. The fire did show, burning a deep violet black color, only no warm came from it. Esther didn't understand. Fire wasn't supposed to act like that!

With a growl they turned away from it and stomped off. No use in having flames if the fire didn't warm them. And then eyes spotted a small thing. A canine. Sweeping away the snow with a small tail.

"What are you doing?" the approached with a snort.

Comet was almost done clearing away the area when a winged wolf stomped up to her and asked what she was doing. Wow, talk about intimidating. They looked annoyed and scary at the same time, being much bigger than her. "I'm-- I'm building a snow fort." she stuttered, then gathered up some of her courage, "It's gonna be big! And strong!" Comet returned to sweeping at the area with her tail, not caring if some of the snow she swept up landed on the winged wolf's body.

The black dangerous smoke curled into the top of the cave in the distance. Esther didn't notice. Their eyes were too focused on the small kid that was flicking snow all over, some landing on their leg.

"I doubt snow can hold up like that." they grunted at the smaller one, attempting to flick that snow back at them.

As Comet turned to look at the wolf, she saw that behind them was a black smoke. Dangerous, she reminded herself not to go in that area. "Well I'll go find some hard ice or snow to make the building. I found some over there." she replied, watching the snow flung at her miss completely. "You'll see when I'm done. It'll be great!" Now that she was done with clearing the area, she stomped off the get some chunks of hard snow. Crack! She struck it in the right spot and a whole chunk broke off. Comet lugged it back to the clearing. "See? This is some hard stuff."

Comet did not wait for a response, she was already hustling and bustling around, chopping off more pieces of ice and snow to use for her fort. Hauling them back, she now had a decent enough pile to start building with. She arranged the slabs of ice in a square, then ran into the problem of stacking them. Maybe brute force would work? Unfortunately, it seemed that brute force was not the solution, as when she tried pushing up the ice, it only cracked in half and the liquid water trapped inside poured all over Comet. "Welp, not doing that again."

That was it! Comet had an idea! What if she made a bubble around the ice, and used that to lift it up? She was much better at magic than strength anyway, perhaps that would work. She decided to try it first on a smaller ice chunk, just to see if her idea would work.

Since the bubble was so small, it did not form around the ice, but on it. That meant she needed to make it bigger. But how? And even if it was big enough, would it be strong enough to lift the piece of ice? Comet pushed that thought out of her mind, it wouldn't hurt to try.

It had worked! The bubble was now the size of the ice slab, but no where near big and strong enough to lift it. Guess it was time to make it bigger. But how much bigger? Was this really an efficient strategy? But there was another motivating factor to all of this, she wanted to prove that winged wolf WRONG. To show that she really could make such a good building! Comet tried the spell again, but she must've been too tired because it failed to work.
