Going up in flames was always normal for the maned wolf, even before their spell changed into something like a disaster. Everything was weird since they found the hole, their gem wasn't even the pretty green and white color anymore. It was just dark, muddled, and oily.

"I can do that." they replied. Esther didn't really want to, their leg was hurting, but there was no point in not doing it if they were just going to sit around in the snow.

Esther begun to scratch at the snow, digging down with their dragonlike claws.

Comet watched their progress, they seemed a bit weak, but their claws were sharp and making good progress on the hole. Comet took the other side and started digging too. With twice the speed now that they were both digging, they soon had a six foot deep hole. "Great! No we just need to expand it to the side." she hopped into the hole and started digging at the wall. She made sure not to dig it too high up or the roof would collapse.

It didn't take long for the hole they were helping to dig to get bigger, and for the two of them to be standing in it. They felt tall, but they always did. When digging on the sides became a thing they should do, well Esther helped. Despite the thing in their head telling them to knock the whole thing down.

They didn't though, and instead dragged their claws against the side. Before the wolf could figure out what was going on, there was a rumbling sound and everything came crashing down.

Everything around them was dark, it was hard to move and their magic wouldn't even help them.

As Comet's paws worked against the sides of the snow, she listened to the sound of Esther digging too, but on the other side of the hole. She started panicking a bit when she heard a slight rumbling sound, but the snow held up, and she was safe. That was when there was a huge crashing sound behind her. Oh no. Turning around, she saw that the place the wolf was digging had collapsed. She ran over to help, but they would have to put in equal effort to get themselves out.

Esther was NOT ready to die. They did NOT want to suffocate in that snow. Absolutely not. No way. They were not going to become that one dragon idiot that somehow was stupid enough to get buried in a mound and die just like that. Esther flexed their claws, body tense.

They forced their legs to move, to start digging above their head, and to hopefully set themselves free.

Comet felt the snow under her move. That was good! It meant that the maned wolf hadn't suffocated so far. She forced her paws to work harder, she was digging from the top while the other wolf dug from the bottom. That meant they would meet in the middle.

Suddenly, the snow broke away under her, and she fell in. Falling in headfirst, she felt her head collide with the maned wolf's body, getting them both stuck. At least the snow on top was gone, right?

When the area above them opened, Esther breathed in a rush of fresh cold air. They were never going to do something like this ever again. They weren't going to dig into this snow to help that wolf make that stupid fort.

And then the girl fell on top of them. Esther was NOT happy.

"Get off of Me!" they growled.

Esther wasnt having any of this shit. They used all of their strength in their legs to shove the other up and off of them, and to get out themselves.

"Sorry!" she tried scrambling out backwards, but that was hard to do upside down. Luckily, the maned wolf pushed her with a strong shove, and Comet was pushed up and out of the fort, back onto the snow. She landed a bit hard, but she didn't mind, at least she was out of the whole now. Shaking her fur, she went back to see that the maned wolf had gotten out. "You want to continue digging now?"

Esther fluttered their wings and snow fell off of the rubbery mandibles, landing back on the ground where it belonged. Shaking out their fur came next. The white powder was flung all kinds of directions,

Mane raising at the notion of digging again, Esther shook their head.

"Absolutely not! I refuse to be buried again!"

Comet was disappointed to hear that they didn't want to help anymore. Well, it wasn't that they didn't want to help, they didn't want to be buried in the snow. So that meant if she gave them a job that didn't have any risks of them getting buried in the snow, they would continue to help. The wolf pup scrunched her nose, trying to think of what else a snow fort needs other than to be dug out.
There wasn't much you could make with just sticks, rocks, and snow. Then she remembered something. If you have a tunnel that goes underground, you need to support it with sticks. They could collect sticks! "I have an idea! One that doesn't have any risk of being buried in snow. Could you collect sturdy sticks?"
