Marshmallow the Honduran White Ba-- no. Marshmallow the Floof Ball was sunbathing on a rock. The rock was slightly shorter than the grasses of the meadow, but tall enough that you would be able to see it. The bat's pure white fur was at maximum floofiness, making her appear more like a ball of cotton than anything.

Miasma

Miasma had followed the river here. It was an interesting bit of water; something new, something interesting—a flowing bit of water that she had never seen before. It was hardly deep enough to contain her entire length, of course; she could feel the tip of her tail brushing the grass as she flowed through it, a cloud of black smoke lifting her out of the water just far enough that the bony limbs curled against her body didn't touch the grass.

She doesn't think she's ever been this far out of the water before. She preferred its depths; it was easier to sense when something was coming, and the terrestrial world was so very, very strange compared to it. There was a difference between the weight of warm water, surrounding her, buoying her, and the air that seemed so much thinner.

Still, she had found she could breathe both sides, so—here she was. Exploring, for lack of a better word.

By now, her course had drifted so that she was not so much in the river as she was beside it; slithering into one of the nearby meadows.

She wouldn't notice it, being blind and being so much larger than the other creature, but her path would have her drifting over a nearby rock; inky tendrils of smoke blocking the little bat's sunbathing and curling over its fluffy, fluffy fur.

Speaking.
Thinking.

Marshmallow had been soaking up the light one second, and the next everything was dark. But this was a different kind of darkness than night time darkness, it was the kind of smoky darkness. But the small bat, having literally no experience about such things, started to worry that they were starting to become blind. She could see in darkness! Why could she not see in this kind? She started flapping her wings randomly in an attempt to... do something I guess.

Miasma

The sound of flapping, frantic and quick, reaches her ears—Miasma feels something moving about in her smoke, something absolutely tiny, and pauses in her tracks.

Her reaction is slow, curious; her great length shifts as she turns her head and curls around the source of the strange disturbance, smoke thinning slightly and curling into the air, lessening the bat's sudden 'blindness' a little.

Is there something... living, here, in the grass? The bone limbs at her side splay outwards as she drifts down to the ground, digging into the dirt as she turns, locating the little creature in her smoke with pinpoint ease.

The bat would see a head shielded mostly by the blackness of a melanite gemstone, three slits in the lower jaw denoting a mouth, and—a long, long pointed tongue, flicking her way.

It smells... furry.

She rolls this thought in her mind for a few moments, considering; a thick tendril of smoke curls around the body of the bat, stroking over this strange, fluffy fur.

"...little," she says after a pause, two mouths speaking in unison.

Speaking.
Thinking.

Marshmallow wasn't sure if it was because of her flapping or not, but the smoke seemed to lessen, and she was able to see more clearly through it. There was something dark within the smoke, like a head shaped gemstone, containing what looked like three mouths and a tongue.

To any normal gembound this would have been super creepy, but Marshmallow was newly hatched, and did not know what a 'normal' animal would look like. Certainly not this. But she didn't know that, all she knew was this thing was petting her fur. Or at least the smoke was petting her fur, and that felt good. But, she did not like this kind of smoky darkness, so she let out a high pitched shriek.
