Arwen was incredibly happy to be able to bury her head in the flowers and drink as much nectar as she wanted, her proboscis sticking out from between her mandibles to slurp it up like a straw as she traveled from flower to flower, drinking to her heart's content.

Occasionally she'd find a bushel of berries and pick a bunch of those, popping them into her mandibles to pull them into her mouth to chew up and eat, the tart taste a contrast to the sugary goodness that was nectar. She found she liked both, and was quickly full, her little grub belly chubby as she found a nice spot under a bush to curl up in, the lights from above hitting her just right.

Blue was... somewhere. Close, definitely, but she was alright here in the meadow, drinking from flowers and eating berries. It was a nice little life, that was for sure.

Marshmallow crawled through the tall grass on her feet, with her wings used for balance and stability. It was rather inconvenient that her wings didn't work yet, and her small, less that an inch size certainly didn't help. To the unknowing eye, she looked like the head of a dandelion traveling through the grass.

She had no idea where she was going, so she went a rather wiggly path that looped, wound, and twisted across the meadow. Finally, the small bat arrived at a bush. And under that bush, was a one foot long grub. Marshmallow looked at the grub, her instincts telling her that the grub would be a good place to sleep for some reason. Don't ask, Marshmallow is a weird bat.

And so, Marshmallow crawled over to the grub, and plopped herself onto the head, not really adding on that much weight. She only weighed one gram! She fluffed up her soft white fur and curled up.

Arwen lifted her head as she felt something tickle at her skin, turning to peer down at the tiny little cotton ball that seemed to have found a warm spot against her side. She stared at it for a moment before lifting it up in her hands instead.

"Hi,", she said softly, "You're cute."

She giggled softly and set the tiny little thing on her back, where her fatty grub body started. It was soft there, and warm from sleeping under the lights.

"You're so soft,", she said, turning herself around (which was creepy as hell) to very gently pet Marshmallow's fur, "Like a little cloud that fell from the sky."

Marshmallow felt herself being lifted into the air by the grub, and placed on the warm part on the grub's back. She had no idea what Arwen was saying, so she just let out a small chirp and allowed the grub to pet her fluffy white fur.

For some reason, Marshmallow found that she actually liked being petted by the grub, and lay there contently. "Soft." she said, repeating Arwen's words. "Soft." This grub made her feel safe, and even felt as warm as the rock she liked to sunbathe on. It was nice.

Arwen stretched her arms up and yawned, and started to move forward, inching forward slowly as she looked around. Well, now she had a new friend!

"I'm going to name you,", she said, her voice taking on that squeaky, toddler-esque pitch that smaller children had, "Um... tell me which one you like, okay?"

"Cloud? Puffball? Cotton? Dandelion?", she rattled off, thinking of all the white fluffy things she knew about.

"Pillow? Pearl?"

Hm... she had to find something even fluffier, something to describe her color and her soft fur and how squishy the small bat looked.

Marshmallow held on with her little claws as the grub started to move. Even though she was literally inching along, it was much faster than when the bat had to crawl along the ground. Bats were made for flying, not crawling! So it was nice that this new friend moved so fast and let her sit on her warm back.

"Name?" It took a bit to process what that word meant. But all the things that the grub suggested were not things that the bat knew. Being a bat, the first thing that came to her mind came to was bugs! Bug was something she knew, even though she was a specie of bat that ate fruits. And for some reason, her mind connected bugs, to a place where bugs were most commonly found. "Marsh." said the bat, not because she thought it would be a good name for her, but because she felt the need to blurt it out.

"Marsh?", Arwen questioned, "That's not a name for a cutie like you- wait!!"

She gasped and picked up the small bat, holding her up, "Marshmallow! That's it, that's your name."

She gently cradled the tiny little thing to her chest, and set her upon her shoulder instead, which was also warm and squishy, "You'll be my little companion, won't you?"

The small bat could certainly be useful. Incredibly small and unassuming, and she could spy on Arwen's enemies before they ever even tried to hurt her or Blue.

"I won't let anyone hurt you either,", she decided, "Do you want something to eat?"

Marshmallow was lifted up into the air again, but she liked it. It gave her a taste of what it was like to fly, and the grub held her quite gently, so she knew that she meant no harm. "Marsh! Mallow! Marshmallow!" she exclaimed, it sounded nice, so she took it as her name.

Then she was placed onto Arwen's shoulder, which was as warm as squishy as the rest of her body. "Yes!" chirped the little bat, agreeing to whatever the grub said. She wasn't exactly sure what she was saying, but it sounded good, so of course she agreed. "Eat... fig?" Marshmallow fluffed out her fur and snuggled into the squishy shoulder.

Arwen giggled, "No, 'eat-ing'. No 'fff' sound."

She gathered up some berries from the bush and held one up to Marshmallow, the little bat so tiny that one could suffice for a good while.

"Here, this is good and sweet,", she said, pushing it closer to the bat's front claws.

She sat down among the flowers, content to feed her new companion. She gently pet her fur, loving how soft it was. This was just... so nice. And soft.

"Marshmallow,", she said softly, "I like it."

"Eatfing!" said Marshmallow, trying again. "Ea... t.... fing!" But no matter how hard she tried, the f sound could not be gotten rid of. She gladly took the berry in her claw, and stuffed it into her mouth, the juice trickling down and staining her cotton white fur a pretty purple. "Yum!" Unfortunately, that single berry filled her up, and she could eat no more.

A content hum drifted from the bat, and she fluffed out her fur a bit more in a response to the grub's petting. But what was she to call this new friend? "You... name?" asked Marshmallow. Now that she had a name, the grub must have a name too!
