Forgraves thought finding cetus would be a little harder. it turns out, it wasn't more than a tunnel away from eridanus. and he knew eridanus like the back of his paw. though, what he didn't expect, was the mist to be so thick from where he was on the ground, he could barely see a foot in front of him and the squelching of water and mud beneath his paws he hoped was enough to lead the way. he sniffed around, trying to locate this.. large tower of meat that the collector had told him to find, the vial still gently but snugly held in his teeth.
he caught the familiar stench of meat the deeper and closer he became to the heart. he felt the water reach up to atleast his haunches. he followed the scent as best he could.

It appeared in the distance, looming in the mist: a meat pile several meters tall, made up of gemless Lessers stacked one atop the other.
Who had put this here--and why?
Upon closer inspection, the bodies at the bottom were putrescent--older, rotting. Those at the middle were still disgusting, but perhaps edible by a scavenger; those at the top were... fres er, at least.
What did the Collector want with all of this..?

Sniffles themselves didn't have a definitive answer as to what the meat pile in the heart was Cetus was about, but they did know it had to be there for a reason. They were used to the mud and the mist so it wasn't hard to make their way around. What sniffles didn't understand was the blotch of color that was unidentifiable as a gembound. They couldn't quite tell who or what it was until getting closer.
"Who You? sniffles basically shouted at the blotch of color, despite having three sets of eyes, they did not make seeing through the fog easier. At first they thought it was nothing, maybe they would leave if no sound was returned. Either way the smell of the rotting meat at the bottom of the pile was almost akin to sniffles's own stench. Nasty. Smelly.

Action. Thought. "Speech."
Forgraves looked up at the weird meat tower, gagging as the horrible stench near the bottom, he figured whatever was GOING to eat this probably shouldnt at this point, so even if on the highly-unlikely-to-him chance the collector gave him literal poison, it wouldn't be different than eating from the pile itself anyway, this looks like it could kill anyone from stench alone.
he froze though, when someone else called out. i mean, more gembound? he was used to those by now, but didn't collector tell him to not tell anybody what he was doing?... welll... TECHNICALLY he only said to not say HE told him to do it. but he didn;t wanna take any chances. instead, he stood perfectly still, shallowing his breathing to near nothing, hoping he was able to seem atleast a little less visible, moving downward ever so slowly further into the mist by his feet. maybe if i don't say anything they'll go away?

Sniffles didn't quite understand, but whatever it was that they had noticed went quiet. Did that mean it was like food? Sniffles had caught food that had reacted like that before. That had tried to hide instead of running away. Now they were wondering if they were going to get a meal out of whatever was close by.
"Is food hiding now?" They called out through the mist, not moving from their spot. If Forgraves was quiet and swift enough, Sniffles may not even notice them.

he needed to stay hidden. he needed to make as little noise as possible and most importantly, not be seen. he definitely didn't want to be eaten. he didn't know how big this gembound was!
he stayed low, and tried to move closer to the tower as quietly as he could.
he padded a few inches deeper into the water, breathing heavy but quietly, padding from under the water, vial held so tight in his teeth he's surprised it didn't break.
he just wanted to move away from the gembound so they'd go away, so he could finish doing whatever this was that the collector wanted him to do. "please go away, please go away..." he thought in silent plea.

Huh. Well... There wasn't any more noise. Maybe the thing just ran away? Was their smell that bad? Oh well! It just meant Sniffles could get back to bumbling around like they always did. With a last sweepthrough (not moving, just looking, really) Sniffles couldn't see anything or anyone.
They turned their back to slither away.

he waited a few more moments, watching the snake creature leave, before padding back over to the meat tower, noticing how gross and thick the water surrounding it seemed to be. ew.
not wanting to risk the whole thing crumbling beneath him and getting crushed beneath the weight of tons of rotting corpses, he simply splashed a good amount of it around the side. atleast even if someone ate this and it WAS harmful, they wouldve probably died anyway, because oh my god, its gross. its only partially half his fault. they had it coming to them.
once he finished splashing some around the side, he held the empty vial in his jaws, scurrying off to find the collector, footsteps squelching, covered in thick, black mud.
he just hoped he wouldnt regret this.

It was hours--perhaps days--before Aquarian next emerged. There was time for the acid to eat through the meat, time for it to replicate itself, to burn and boil, generating toxins as it went.
The great serpent emerged, consuming the pile as he always did: a lurch, a single massive gulp, not checking to see if any Gembound were in the way. And as usual, he glanced around and, finding the shoreline empty (but pleased with the service of the Children of Rot), he receded into the waters. The wake he left behind frothed, rocked, fell still...
...and then erupted again. Aquarian's head and some twenty feet of neck shot out, and his screeching echoed out over the Heart. Steam rose from his jaws. He was angered--pained--but not truly harmed; the magic of a Master prevented such things. "POOOISON!" he screamed, shrill and reverberating. "BETRAAAAAAAAAAAAAYAL!" This went on for several long minutes, the Master's body thrashing serpentine over the water's surface, kicking ten-foot waves that smashed into the shore and rocked throughout the marsh.
A pause, then, as the toxins wore away.
One poisonous yellow eye, then the other, regarded the shore suspiciously. No one was here-? No one was watching him? Frustrated and disappointed, the Master threw himself onto shore, this second splash again washing into Cetus.
Still, no one came to ask how he was. How he was feeling. And, feeling rather upset, Master Aquarian turned and slipped quietly into the depths of the Heart to sulk.
