Talys was no fool -- in fact, he was rather intelligent. Picking berries and pricking his fingers on thorns was one thing, and sometimes he found good things to eat (although other times he'd made himself rather sick), but he knew from watching other Gembound hunt from the shadows that this was something his sharp teeth were made for. And he knew that watching the fish dart around in the water sparked something ancient in him, an instinct like fury -- that was how he'd gotten here, in the water up to his knees (and with his scrap of cloth tied up more similarly to a diaper than to a skirt) as he stared silently at the fish moving around in front of his shadow.

They were wary of it, of the potential for predation, but a brave one dared to venture towards it, and Talys lunged with his little claws lashing out. The light refracting off the water, however, gave the illusion of the fish being a hair away from where it really was and it dashed madly away from his hands -- along with the rest of his compatriots. "Argh!!" he declared, throwing his head back. This was the fifth time he'd missed it, and he still couldn't figure out what the problem was.

He pulled the basalt out from his waistband and rubbed it between his palms like a good luck charm as he squinted at the water. Maybe, he just needed to get a new strategy.
