Annie was back home again, plodding along, her mood up in the clouds like it always was. Unfortunately, it'd left without her, her wings too small to lift her up. She sighed and bounced ahead, making her way to the rock she'd chosen to practice her wings on top of.

One day she'd fly and join her heart up in the sky. Some day.

She raised her tiny wings and stood on the boulder, cheeks puffed out, her fluffy, down-covered body fluffed up in an attempt to look bigger. Unfortunately she was still small, only about 8 inches now. But at least she was growing.

"Up!", she cried, running forward and jumping, flapping her wings as hard as she could before dropping to the ground.

But alas, nothing. Too small and weak right now, but soon they'd grow big enough.

While young, Amberfrost has wasted no time in getting herself along to new places. She’s been wondering aimlessly, more or less, exploring the new world she’s suddenly found laid out in front of her paws.

Her big ears perk up as she hears someone else. Her eyes go wide in excitement- she hasn’t come across anyone else in a while! This could be exciting!

Hurrying over as quickly as her small legs can carry her, the kitten finds herself scrambling up the rocks to find a creature she’s never seen before. “Hey!!” she squeaks, standing up on her hind paws and churning her front paws in the air to get the (slightly) bigger creature’s attention. “Whatcha doin!!”

Annie jumped as she heard the sound of claws on stone, turning to face Amberfrost with her small ears perked forward, her big green eyes wide. A smile crossed her face and she cooed softly.

"Hullo!", she said, "I'm Annie! Annie-Sora!"

She hopped back onto the rocks and stood beside the other, curious, "I was flying... what are you doing?"

The griffin cocked her head and made a questioning noise, her little tail shaking behind her. She took another running jump and flapped harder, her wings flapping as hard as they could go before she fell to the ground again. With a frustrated noise she stood, shaking herself off.

"I wish my wings would grow faster," she complained.

”Hey Annie!!” The kitten chirps back, bouncing on her feet as her eyes, wide and curious, track the griffin’s movements. She watches with her head tilted to one side as she attempts to fly again- only to land right back onto the ground. She gives a huff of amusement, sitting down to watch as her kitten fluff ruffles up in the process.

“At least your wings are flexible and can be useful someday!” She says optimistically, looking back at her own tiny wings. “I kinda wish I’d be able to fly someday.. But I dunno what I’m doing! I’m just kinda wandering around! I just happened to see what you were up to!” She says it with a purr, tail swishing behind her with her ears and whiskers twitching curiously.

”Oh yeah!! I’m Amberfrost, by the way! You can just call me Amber though if that’s too much of a mouthful!”

Annie cocked her head, "I guess you're right... they will be some day."

She just had to be patient.

"I'll bet you can climb trees," she said, running towards the nearest one, "I'll race you to the top!"

She giggled as she leapt up to a branch, scaling the trunk before she climbed onto another, hopping from branch to branch until she was quite a distance from the ground.

"It's nice to meet you, Amber!", she said, "Can we be friends?"

She hoped so. She didn't actually have many, unless you included family members, in which case she had a lot. Though Attikias and Vivilene were her friends too.

“Hey-!! No fair!!” Amber squeaks, scrambling onto her paws and bolting after the young griffin. She’s surprisingly fast on her paws though- within heartbeats she’s caught up, her claws flashing out and digging into the tree bark.

Rather than jumping the branches, she rather bolts up the trunk itself, weaving between the branches and using them as springboards occasionally.

She’s trying not to think about the trip down.

The kitten’s ears twitch as she pauses at the sound of Annie’s voice, looking around herself- and finding her a few branches below.

“I think I’d like that a lot!! Yeah, I’d love to be friends! That sounds like fun!”

Annie looked up and grinned, "Great!!"

She hopped onto the branch Amber was on, balancing carefully, "My dad's gonna be so surprised when he finds out!"

She giggled and hopped up to the next branch, then the next, her little wings flapping, her flight feathers coming in finally, her white down turning grey. From branch to branch she hopped, climbing higher and higher, occasionally looking back at Amber.

At a particularly high branch she paused, inspecting it and wondering how to proceed.

She bunched up her legs and jumped, wings spreading and carrying her further, flapping wildly, just enough so that she could grab the branch and pull herself up.

"Ha!", she cried with pride, "Careful Amber, this part doesn't have a lot of branches!"

And off she went again, giggling like mad, having one Hell of a time.

Amberfrost watches her jump higher and higher, a mystified look on her face as she watches her go. She flexes her claws into the tree bark, smiling wide. She doesn’t need branches to climb! She’s got this!

“It won’t be a problem for me!! I’ve got grabby claws!!” She squeaks back up in response. Her tail flicks back and forth as she studies her surroundings, then focuses on Annie above her. She’s a little bit careful once the branches get fewer and farther in between- clinging to the trunk as she claws her way up.

”How high up does this go?!” She meows loudly, scooting up the trunk to try to catch up. She glances down for a moment- stunned at how high up they are. Somehow it doesn’t phase her- and she simply keeps climbing higher, belly to the bark of the trunk as she scales it.

"Really high!", Annie replied, and held up her own claws, "You're lucky! Mine are for perching!"

Thankfully, she was half bird.

Up she went, up up up until she reached the top, perching on a branch just above the canopy. She peered across Eridanus, a gasp escaping her throat. The competition didn't matter anymore as she took in the view, laughing.

"Amber... look," she said, craning her head.

She could see the Eyes from here, and the Fern Trench! It was massive!

She sat down and watched birds fly overhead, watching catsquirrels leap from branch to branch, chittering at each other as they ran off into their dens, curling up together. It was beautiful up here, a masterpiece of flora and fauna.

"It's so pretty," she said, "Don't you think?"

Amber can’t help but grin at Annie pointing that out- she looks at her claws, currently embedded in the tree bark. Her claws are awesome! They’re so useful!

She pauses as she catches up to Annie, yellow-orange ears flicking. She climbs onto a branch though, balancing herself on it with help of her tail. She looks around as soon as she’s comfortable- and lets out an audible gasp as her eyes go so wide her whites are visible.

“This— this is beautiful!” She gasps, ears perked straight upright as her whiskers twitch in wonder. She had no clue it was so pretty up here! Amber watches the birds overhead, eyes glistening in wonder. ”I wish I could fly...” She murmurs, almost jealous. No, definitely jealous.
