Recently she'd discovered her stinger worked. She'd been startled and embedded it into the trunk of a tree, the gemstone casing proving to be incredibly sharp and sturdy. She'd inspected it and tested her stinger on various lessers, and found that they bled out within minutes due to her venom preventing their blood from clotting. It was perfect.

She was huddled on top of a cliff, waiting silently. She saw a wooly deer a few minutes ago, and despite the cold nipping at her extremities, she'd waited patiently for it to return. And return it did.

Arwen jumped off the ledge, stinger presented, only for the deer to rear and snap its antlers back, throwing her into the cliff she'd previously been atop of. She hissed as she slid to the ground, recovering after a moment, and glared at the stupid thing as it pawed at the ground. It was going to charge.

Arwen fluttered her wings and scuttled forward, jumping up with her stinger presented, aiming to stab into the damn thing's neck or chest. Despite those fierce antlers, it's skin was something she wanted desperately.

Her stinger pierced the deer's flesh and embedded itself into its neck, venom filling its veins. It was a wound that wouldn't kill, as it hadn't hit an artery somehow, but the venom would make it ten times worse.

The deer bleated and kicked her with its sharp front hooves, cracking the carapace on her arm and making her cry out in pain. It bolted, trailing blood in the snow as it ran down the mountain, but it didn't get far.

"Ouch," she hissed, peering at the wound, watching blood well up and drip onto the snow.

Well. At least the deer would be dead in a minute or so. As long as she found it before the cold tore it apart, she'd be able to take its skin, have a bit of a meal, and then leave. The cold would preserve it for later, if she took its gem out.

The Queen trekked down the mountain and found the deer, her fingers digging into the wound. If she could tear this thing's skin off cleanly, she'd have a nice cloak to keep her warm.

Arwen tore the skin down the throat and belly, and used her claws to carefully tear the skin around the hooves. She pushed her fingers under the skin, careful not to tear, loosening it from the body. It was a long and tedious process, and one that was incredibly messy, but at least the carcass was warm.

She'd break off the antlers to take with her, maybe, but the skin was her prize. She'd make a hood out of it, and the long fur would be beautiful once she brushed it out and attached her gemstone antlers to it. She'd be utterly beautiful to look at.

The queen pulled the skin off and laid it in the snow, using the snow itself to scrub at the inside, wanting it as clean as possible. Once she'd cleaned it off (her fingers numb), she folded it up and draped it fur side-down on her back. Now she'd take the antlers.

Arwen took her good arm and braced her legs on the skull of the beast, breaking the antler near the base and sending it flying into the snow. Whatever, at least it was off. The other came off similarly, with a bit of bone attached and the end unfortunately chipped, but it was fine. As long as she had them.

Once that was done she stood, hurrying off back to Cepheus and towards her den. Screw this cave, it was too damn cold.

Exit Arwen
